02:45<kop>luis46: You're using debian?
02:45<dpkg>Ubuntu is based on Debian, but it is not Debian. Only Debian is supported on #debian. Use #ubuntu ( instead. Even if the channel happens to be less helpful, support for distributions other than Debian is offtopic on #debian. See also <based on debian>.

03:32<dpkg>[grub] GNU GRUB (GRand Unified Bootloader) 0.9x, aka GRUB Legacy. A powerful boot loader which can boot many OSes and understands many filesystems. To install: "aptitude install grub grub-doc" ("aptitude install grub-legacy grub-legacy-doc" for Squeeze). To reinstall, ask me about <fixmbr>. To migrate from LILO, ask about <lilo->grub>. See also <grub errors>, <grub2>, <supergrub>.

03:33<dpkg>[grub2] GNU GRUB 2 is the successor to GRUB Legacy (GNU GRUB version 0.9x). Packaged as grub-pc (PC/BIOS version) and grub-ieee1275 (Open Firmware version). Manual: . See also <grub2 squeeze>, <grub2 config>, . #grub on

23:31<auinnz>oh acutally, 64bit, 686
23:31<Fighter747>how do I exit the installer? ^Z not working
23:31<sney>auinnz: apt-get -t squeeze-backports install linux-image-2.6-686
23:32<sney>^C will get you out of most debconf windows. sometimes you need to hit it twice.
23:32<Fighter747>just tries to keep looking for it
23:33<Fighter747>doesn't do anything, unfortunately

23:33<sney>well, you can also switch terminals (alt-f2) and kill the running process from there
23:33<matoc>auinnz, sney: are you looking for kernel 3.0?
23:34<sney>matoc: I'm not, and auinnz is going to try 2.6.39 first to see if that works with the wifi device
23:34<matoc>ah, right, they're barely different...
23:34<sney>(I'm on 3.1 because I am using testing, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone inexperienced)

23:35<Fighter747>how do I look for the PID of the first terminal?
23:35<Fighter747>of that installe
23:35<sney>ps aux or top will show you the running processes
23:35<sney>and it'll be tasksel, or dpkg
23:36<matoc>Fighter747: I usually use ps -s if you just want process ID and process name.
23:36<matoc>less to look at tha ps -aux...
23:36<auinnz>thanks sney it's installing now

23:36<Fighter747>I just did ps a
23:37<sney>old muscle memory command, that
23:37<auinnz>to see if my usb wifi is picked up, should I just restart after the install?
23:37-!-floe_ [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
23:38<sney>auinnz: yeah, grub will show you the new kernel to choose on boot

23:39<jason_>help somebody?
23:39<jason_>doing:: a compile make
23:39<Fighter747>so I tried tasksel install gnome-desktop --new-install again
23:40<Fighter747>now it says "tasksel: aptitude failed (255)"
23:40<jason_>question: in building I want to ether do a cross compile for mips-unknown-linux-gnu or use qemu?
23:40<jason_>currently I was** running qemu overnight.... to poor results, I didnt make it past the checking for libaries!

23:42<sney>jason_: well, I'm not sure what your real question is, but if you want the code to run natively on your mips system and your build system is not mips, then you do want to cross compile. it's a chore though.
23:42<sney>Fighter747: I wasn't here for the beginning of your issue. what's wrong with 'aptitude install gnome'?
23:43<Fighter747>so I tried tasksel install gnome-desktop --new-install again
23:43<Fighter747>now it says "tasksel: aptitude failed (255)"

23:45<matoc>Fighter747: maybe you should try what sney sugest and just do: apt-get install gnome
23:46<Fighter747>E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
23:46<matoc>Fighter747: that basically the same as using tasksel to install the gnome-dekstop
23:46<Fighter747>E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
23:46<matoc>Fighter747: that means there is an other process updating or installing something.

23:58<deansu>does anyone know if openssh on squeeze supports Match in ssh_config? the manpage doesn't mention it, nor does anything in /usr/share/doc/ssh/ in any serious way (ie removed/disabled) and I get an error using it in /etc/ssh/ssh_config
23:59<sney>that sounds like a no, then
