00:30<gnufan>how best to make joystick work with flash games. Have joystick "cat /dev/input/js0" works, emulators work, dasher works, but how best to map to keys for flash games? I tried joy2key but docs seem a tad spartan, and surely this should be in GNOME or something by now (i.e. I'm sure there is a better way I just don't know what it is).

00:51<netzsooc>hello I have to write some text in spanish (I even have a spanish keyboard which is well configured in debian) the problem is that when I need to write a stressed letter, it will type the stress before the vowel and not over it, could you tell me why is it? for example latex code woul be \'{a} but typing directly it dosen't get an ´a
00:51<netzsooc>do you understand?
00:53<priv1>You mean you can't type "special" letters directly? Like á or à?
00:54<netzsooc>indeed I can't
00:54<netzsooc>i get ´a instead
00:54<netzsooc>or `a
00:55<netzsooc>but I can get ç and ñ
00:55<netzsooc>because they are a single key
00:57<priv1>Hmm...are you sure that your keyboard is well configured? Did you tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration ?

00:58<babilen>netzsooc: How are you trying to type those? Do I understand you correctly in that you don't have those á and à on your keyboard?
00:58<jardi>netzsooc, what kind of Spanish are you using?
00:59<netzsooc>priv1 I can write that letters in konsole and in some programs
00:59<netzsooc>but I can't write them here
00:59<netzsooc>or in iceweasel
00:59<netzsooc>or icecat
00:59<netzsooc>or icedove
00:59<priv1>Do you see the letters in the textfield when you're typping them?
01:00<netzsooc>babilen,you understood correctly, in spanish keyboard there is a special character "´" that usually works to stress some letters
01:00<netzsooc>jardi I am using spanish (from spain) keyboard
01:01<netzsooc>yes I do
01:01<netzsooc>well I can read them, but not type them
01:03<priv1>You tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration ?
01:03<netzsooc>priv1 but in konsole and some programs the keyboard is working properly

01:07<netzsooc>if I type ñ I see it and it is echoed

01:46<sammy-a>when I follow the instructions on to try to light up a new version of iceweasel, without touching any apt preferences or apt.conf files, with only a stable deb source and the two squeeze-backports deb sources, for some reason the squeeze-backports version of linux-base gets a priority of 100. what am I missing?
01:46<sammy-a>I thought only installed versions of packages got priority 100. so the version I have installed gets 100 and so does the version from squeeze-backports. I'm so confused :(

02:17<sammy>to anyone following along at home, priority 100 is given to the version that is already installed (if any) and to the versions coming from archives which in their Release files are marked as "NotAutomatic: yes" and "ButAutomaticUpgradesL yes" like the debian backports archive since squeeze-backports so
02:18<sammy>that explains why they'd have priority 100. it doesn't explain why apt-get upgrade would want to jump to the newer version without me using -t

05:19<themill>!why an mta
05:19<dpkg>An MTA should be on most Unix(ish) systems to provide a way for various services to deliver asynchronous system or error messages. This includes things like cron and at (to give you the output of jobs) and various daemons (e.g. the init script of MySQL). The MTA does not have to listen to network ports so spam and security issues are largely irrelevant. See also <nullmailer>.

Lets assume you don't run squeeze but wheezy any more I would still expect problems ...
14:31<babilen>... due to Optimus. I am also reluctant to recommend an "upgrade" to wheezy as it requires quite some knowledge of Debian's packaging system to solve bugs/problems or deal with transitions (/msg dpkg transition) that you *will* run into.

15:13<rigved>i heard that Raspberry Pi will ship with Debian. Can anybody tell me applications will it support? Will I be able to connect it to a monitor and use it to write spreadsheets, read email, edit photos etc.? I am not talking about the hardware aspect as more of the software side. 20:33<zykotick9>i asked a related question a couple hours ago on freenode. Is it possible to get nouveau 3d working on squeeze? I updated to wheezy and it's working, but I'd much prefer to run "stable" (and would be willing to reinstall, it's a fresh install right now). When I initially tried in squeeze I was missing the firmware-linux-free packages (could this have been my issue?). I'd tried installing kernel and libgl1-mesa-dri from backports while I was trying on

Mplayer capable of playing full screen video smoothly is a huge plus (non-accelerated nouveau was not), i tried openarena and quickly had a full system lockup (almost expected from what I've read) which isn't ideal, but it's using free (faif) drivers which is the goal. 23:54<kop>vimana: I think you ask here. You need to say whether you installed it from nvidia or did it the debian way. (I don't know anything about either.) Or try #debian on, although the people who really know what they're doing usually are here too.
23:54<kop>vimana: So long as you use debian you can always ask here.
23:54<vimana>i installed it from wheezy non-free using aptitude but i think somehow it went wrong, its not finding it in Xorg
23:55<vimana>im in a tty right now, i should have followed the wiki..
23:55<kop>vimana: You don't want to mix releases. That makes for a broken system.
23:56<vimana>i was just going to reinstall the base system again, and when i get to gnome, look it up in a browser, links isn't too friendly to me
23:56<vimana>but i figured someone in here could maybe help
