10:23<s3a>How do I make my swap partition be activated before the root partition upon booting my system? It's causing my hibernations to not be resumed and is clearing my swap all the time. I noticed the sequence of events on the booting screen. That is, root starts first and then fsck recovers the journal and then the swap is useless.
10:24<s3a>The swap works as "extra ram" but not for hibernating purposes. It seems that the hibernation process works but resuming from it fails because the root partition gets activated first.

12:36<shaun->StarmanDX: debian has older packages is more stable since it's better tested.. has a larger package archive and supports LOADS of architectures.
12:37<shaun->StarmanDX: LMDE etc etc are all 'play' distros for playing with teh new stuff. most of the time you only really need one or two up to date packages (if even that) . So hence the backports idea

12:40<StarmanDX>I'm perfectly fine with Debian stable, I'm just worried LMDE will have a driver or something Debian doesn't have and I'll have to reinstall and reconfigure LMDE because Debian is missing something.
12:40<lcb>Hi. what's the best approach to solve MTA of taking too long on booting the system?
12:41<shaun->lcb: it takes a long time to start up? you using exim?
12:42<lcb>shaun-, yes
12:42<lcb>reconfigure it?
12:42<shaun->StarmanDX: LMDE and Mint and Ubuntu etc all just install varying degrees of non-free shit for you. if you want flash, java, non-free wifi drivers etc all working out of the box then you can go for them. I heard Ubuntu is the african word for 'debian's too hard'
12:42<StarmanDX>One more question because I have to go soon: should I wait for the next Debian update or install squeeze?
12:43<lcb>shaun-, i see several approaches in doing it, on the net, but.. i'm affraid of breaking something
12:43<shaun->lcb: shouldn't need to reconfigure it. is your networking working ok? and is tehre anything under /var/log/exim4/* that's useful ?
12:43<zynon>StarmanDX, The machine im on right now had lenny on it, i didnt start it for over a year, and now i just updated to squeeze within just a little bit of time.
12:43<shaun->lcb: what is it you need the MTA for? just localhost? or to act as an smtp server? and if so, locally or on the 'net ?
12:44<lcb>shaun-, the net is working fine, although i didn't assign a static ip yet.

13:28<Steap>Hello ! I'm running Sid and I've just upgraded to Iceweasel 10.0.2. Iceweasel cannot play sound (like in HTML5 videos) if another application is playing sound at the same time. At first, I thought it was a problem with Pulseaduio/Alsa, but many applications (VLC, Totem, Rhythmbox...) can play sound at the same time. Does anybody have the same problem ?
13:28<stoian>thank you. i`ll read it :)

20:57<blueunix>well you did everything I would have done...
20:58<blueunix>what version of grub? 2?
20:58<blueunix>is this squeeze?
20:58<CryptKpr>I am having a hard time identifying it actually its whatever is default with squeeze

21:01<blueunix>what about /sys?
21:02<CryptKpr>no - wasn't aware I needed to do anything w/ /sys the only seperate partition I have is boot which was mounted appropiately before chrooting
21:03<blueunix>no it's not
21:03<blueunix>boot's not mounted that's probably the issue
21:03<blueunix>here issue this mount commands before you chroot in
21:03<blueunix>make a temp directory to mount your root -> sudo mkdir temp_comp
21:04<blueunix>mount root -> sudo mount /dev/sda2 temp_comp
21:04<blueunix>mount boot -> sudo mount /dev/sda1 temp_comp/boot
21:04<blueunix>boot's got to be mounted into the root folder
21:05<blueunix>mount dev -> sudo mount -o bind /dev temp_comp/dev
21:05<ayaka>blueunix, that what cause problem,it csn't work with flash device with 2partations
21:05<CryptKpr>I mounted boot as you said on /mnt/root/boot

21:06<CryptKpr>the only thing I didnt do was the sys mount
21:07<blueunix>cryptkpr: oh ok.... well maybe it was because of not mounting sys.... plus your mounting command for proc was...
21:07<blueunix>mount -t proc none /mnt/root/proc and not mount -t proc proc /mnt/root/proc
21:07<CryptKpr>Ok I can add the sys mount and adjust the proc mount

22:30<hoshi411>isn't there a way to kill my android window session and run xorg instead running debian gnome or something?
22:31<hoshi411>since android is running on a linux kernel under some java like whatever
22:31<hoshi411>can't I just kill the apk session
22:31<hoshi411>and keep the kernel running
22:31<hoshi411>and then just choose to run gnome session?

22:32<hoshi411>I don't see why no one has gone that rout yet
22:32<hoshi411>a script could be made even to kill the apk session and startup gnome-shell
22:33<hoshi411>under xwindows
22:33<hoshi411>gnome-session could then load under a debian directory
22:33<hoshi411>there is chroot with debian on it now but .... that can only run under a vnc server
22:34<hoshi411>but that makes no sense because all you need to do is kill the apk session and forget a vnc server
22:34<hoshi411>just run it on xwindows
22:34<hoshi411>has no one tried this?
22:34<hoshi411>I really want to get debian booting without vnc on my tablet
22:35<hoshi411>there might be a better channel to go to for this though but
22:36<hoshi411>this channel is probly best suited to understand how I would kill the android apk that is hogging the monitor and get xorg to take over with a gnome-shell session
