01:00<scientes>like an existing debian system
01:00<scientes>but it doesn't really work

01:01<scientes>this is a arm box, and the installer doesn't support installing to the NAND that i've installed to
01:01<jm_>i'd just wipe it all and use debootstrap, alternatively /msg dpkg reinstall
01:01<scientes>well, can i run debootstrap from the installer manually?
01:01<scientes>otherwise i have the problem of running over the system i am using to install with
01:02<jm_>you can from tty2

01:17<bones_was_here>jazzmans: most linux people will have avoided those cards cos they had no proper driver... in your pastebin, when SB-XFi says "setting latency timer to 64" then complains "Something wrong!!!"
01:17<bones_was_here>it could be referring to the systemwide PCI latency, which many BIOS setup's provide an option to change, if your BIOS has the option it might be worth playing with

01:19<jazzmans>thnx bones_was_here, I'm reading up on recompiling the ctfxi module, sb cards have always been, difficult. But this card has got the best D/A converters.
01:20<bones_was_here>i'd argue you'll find better D/A converters on an old m-audio delta PCI, which have nice linux support :)

01:25<bones_was_here>well those delta PCI cards are studio equipment, some of them include mic preamps or balanced inputs, and their target market demands quieter hardware than consumer products are generally capable of

01:34<jazzmans>bones_was_here thanks for the info, I think I'm done with this damn card. I'll be looking into m-audio
01:35<bones_was_here>the ESI juli@ is a nice card too, but ESI's newer (PCI E) products are mostly unsupported on linux at this stage

11:48<engla>LC_CTYPE=UTF-8 is not good since "UTF-8" is not a proper locale so when a program tries to load the ctype, it will fall back to the default POSIX locale instead
11:49*babilen recommends en_US.UTF-8 everywhere (or rather en_GB.UTF-8, but meh)
11:50<engla>babilen: umm I'm fine with swedish thanks.
11:50<pexio>babilen: but when you use a scandinavian keyboard... ideally I would like to use en_DK.UTF-8

11:50<babilen>pexio: What keeps you from doing that?
11:50<engla>ah well sure. debian does that by default too
11:51<engla>so it's not really hard to use UTF-8
11:51<dpkg>Use 'dpkg-reconfigure locales' to get it up and running. This generates <locale> definitions and also edits /etc/default/locale which sets the $LANG environment variable at login time. 23:10<garn32>I guess the reason that I wasn't sure over that is that during boot into single user that error doesn't show up, I'm currently using the problem system and have access to the array
23:10<sney>I bet if you had the OS on a (backed up, expendable) separate volume and your data on the array, your problems would be solved

23:32<dpkg>/tmp is a filesystem location, required by the <FHS> to be made available for programs requiring temporary files. Make sure its modes are 1777, otherwise you'll have problems down the track. Are you running out of space on /tmp? Use the TMPDIR environment variable (e.g. in ~/.bashrc) to specify an alternate directory with available disk space. See also <tmp noexec>.

23:32<garn32>sney - I do you have any advice on how I can proceed from where I'm at currently to figure out if this is a module issue or a hardware problem?
23:33<mdik>!tmp noexec
23:33<dpkg>dpkg doesn't like you mounting /tmp noexec, so you need to: echo -e 'DPkg::Pre-Invoke {"mount -o remount,exec /tmp";};\nDPkg::Post-Invoke {"mount -o remount /tmp";}' > /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/tmp-noexec
23:33<sney>mdik: you can also do /msg dpkg keyword instead of !keyword, to keep from cluttering the channel
