01:22 | <bones_was_here> | if it does simply need one extra line in krb5.conf, surely the install could add it, or at least give some hint it's needed |

01:57 | <bones_was_here> | only thing that does right now, is using lenny's nfs-kernel-server and nfs-common |
01:57 | <bones_was_here> | except, that results in slow, unreliable NFS compared to 6.0.3's, which worked perfectly |
01:57 | <bones_was_here> | seriously, where can i get the 6.0.3 packages? we need working NFS!! |
01:58 | <bones_was_here> | with lenny's packages, os x clients can connect, but they randomly drop the connection for no apparent reason, and debian squeeze clients cannot mount the export at all |

08:29 | <mariolb> | I saw the bug 660406, but I would to know if there are some workaround. |
08:29 | <ayaka> | mariolb have you fsck your disk? |
08:29 | <mariolb> | I thinking to use the Wheezy in a file server, running Samba plus OpenLDAP. |
08:30 | <lancelot_of> | three annoying issues on my newly installed wheezy machine. 1) when i suspend to ram, on resume for some unknown reason hostname isn't resolved correctly. So mail clients or web browsers do not work correctly, as welll as network interfaces, indeed in terminals i don't see my hostname but a new one like 'computer' or 'host-001'. So i'm forced to /etc/init.d/hostname stop/start. 2) again on resuming from suspend to ram i get in xscreensave |
08:30 | <lancelot_of> | r:"xscreensaver: not launching (hack). throttled" dunno what does it mean, it seems to be not tedious but it's quite annoying to see it, also because it's in yellow colour. 3) Sometimes on resume i get in dmesg: ' [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged'. i'm afraid of this kind of messages....what does it mean?what should i do?Please help. |
08:30 | <ayaka> | i get that when i break my sd |

08:34 | <dpkg> | To instruct your system to execute <fsck> on the next boot: "touch /forcefsck". Useful for checking the root filesystem for errors (via /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh). Alternatively, supply the -F option to shutdown(8) to create the /forcefsck advisory file, or include "forcefsck" at the kernel command line (Squeeze). |

09:55 | <gkaklas> | I use iceweasel and sometimes when i try to load specific sites it gives a "connection reset" error. This behavior is random as i didn't change any settings in about:config. It did that with youtube, dropbox and now facebook, each one in different time period. The problem is fixed by itself and it isn't a general network problem - chromium was able to load the websites. Just can't figure out what's the problem, any ideas? |

12:01 | <EmleyMoor> | I just tried to switch from nouveau to nvidia drivers but could not get a picture. Is there anything I need to add or remove to make it work? I am using a significant amount of backports |
12:01 | <babilen> | !nvidia dkms |
12:01 | <dpkg> | For Squeeze users. Ask me about <contrib> and <non-free sources>. "aptitude -r install linux-headers-2.6-`uname -r|sed 's,[^-]*-[^-]*-,,'` nvidia-kernel-dkms && mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d ; echo -e 'Section "Device"\n\tIdentifier "My GPU"\n\tDriver "nvidia"\nEndSection' > /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf". Run "update-initramfs -u" and restart your system to enable the <nouveau> blacklist. For legacy drivers, see <nvidia legacy>. |
12:01 | <babilen> | EmleyMoor: Note that there are backports of recent nvidia drivers |

12:55 | <retrospectacus> | rwxr-xr-- on root:audio is fine, then only members of audio can run it |

19:32 | <bones_was_here> | with the lenny packages, squeeze clients just hang when they try to mount, but os x clients work |
19:32 | <dondelelcaro> | hrm... not really familiar with that, since I secure NFS in other ways. |

23:35 | <pyrokamileon> | hi I tried setting my monitor to rotate in the display settings and my monitor blanked out and now I can't get it back, can someone please help me? |
23:36 | <ayaka> | nevyn: no, I don't think so |
23:36 | <nevyn> | ayaka: what does git branch say? |
23:36 | <nevyn> | ayaka (you need to run that in the directory that contains .git |
23:37 | <ayaka> | nevyn: master and origin/linux-msm-2.6.35 |
23:37 | <nevyn> | git checkout master |
23:38 | <pyrokamileon> | I already tried logging into recovery mode and reconfiguring xserver but that didn't help, neither did uninstalling and reinstalling it.. |
23:38 | <pyrokamileon> | I guess what I need is to figure out where my settings are kept and rm the file maybe? |
23:39 | <sney> | if you're using gnome it'll be in ~/.gnome/ somewhere |
23:39 | <pyrokamileon> | I think I'm using xfce |
23:39 | <nevyn> | ayaka: did that work? |
23:39 | <ayaka> | nevyn: thank you |
23:39 | -!- | kingsley [~kingsley@174-31-248-155.tukw.qwest.net] has joined #debian |
23:39 | <nevyn> | if not you can checkout origin/linux-msm-2.6.35 |
23:40 | <ayaka> | nevyn: but it don't output src |
23:40 | <sney> | pyrokamileon: hmm, I didn't think xfce had a display settings dialog that could do that |
23:40 | <nevyn> | ayaka: is the repo you cloned public? |
23:41 | <ayaka> | nevyn: no, I should use repo to do that? |

23:41 | <pyrokamileon> | I'm pretty sure I am using xfce but I checked my hidden files and found a gnome2 folder, maybe I have enough gnome stuff that it might control the display? |
23:41 | <nevyn> | ayaka: explain from the start for me. what you ran. |
23:42 | <ayaka> | nevyn: what (you need to run that in the directory that contains .git means? |
23:42 | <nevyn> | ayaka: how did you get a .git directory? |
23:42 | <ayaka> | nevyn: git clone |
23:42 | <pyrokamileon> | not much in gnome2 dir just accels and keyring.. |
23:44 | <nevyn> | ayaka: right from some public repo? or from a private repo? |

23:45 | <nevyn> | I want to know if the public repo is just broken. |
23:46 | <nevyn> | which I can do by cloning it. |
23:47 | <ayaka> | nevyn: another src in https://www.codeaurora.org/index.php 's linux kernel can checkout ,but officer one can't |

23:48 | <pyrokamileon> | how would I figure out what manages my display? or where its settings are? |
23:48 | <pyrokamileon> | I'm ready to just copy all the hidden folders to a separate location and reboot, it seems a lot less drastic than reinstalling.. |
23:49 | <sney> | pyrokamileon: do you have an xorg.conf? |
23:49 | <nevyn> | ayaka: what's the exact git clone command you ran? |
23:49 | <pyrokamileon> | no I don't I even ran the reconfigure command which is supposed to create one but it didn't |
23:50 | <jello> | pyrokamileon: which version of debian? |
23:50 | <jello> | nowadays you usually don't need an xorg.conf |
23:50 | <pyrokamileon> | I believe squeeze |

23:52 | <pyrokamileon> | right now when I boot into the normal desktop I get a blank screen, I can't even go to a different um.. virtual desktop? I read somewhere that that meant that I needed to reinstall xserver but that has now been done already :-( |
23:52 | <jello> | pyrokamileon: define blank screen? do you get a greeter? do you get a login prompt? |
23:52 | <pyrokamileon> | no new drivers, I was in display properties and I tried rotating my screen, the screen went blank and I waited a minute but it never came back |
23:53 | <ayaka> | nevyn: git checkout origin/msm-core and I want to check out it to another place |
23:53 | <nevyn> | ayaka: what's the exact git clone command you ran? |
23:53 | <jello> | pyrokamileon: what happens if you do c-a-f1 ? |
23:53 | <pyrokamileon> | I see everything load up the way it usually does but right when I'm about to get a desktop the display blanks out |
23:53 | <ayaka> | nevyn: I have say it work that cmd, and I want to do more, I want to check it out to another place |
23:54 | <pyrokamileon> | c-a-f1 doesn't change anything, display keeps sleeping |
23:54 | <nevyn> | ayaka: please give me the command you used to make the local repository. |
23:54 | <jello> | pyrokamileon: okay, boot into rescue mode and let's disable X from starting |
23:55 | <pyrokamileon> | I'm in recovery right now |
23:55 | <jello> | great |
23:55 | <jello> | so, X is not running now, correct? |
23:55 | <pyrokamileon> | nope |
23:55 | <jello> | verify by running `ps -ef | fgrep X` |
23:56 | <jello> | pyrokamileon: do you normally use gnome, kde, or something else? |
23:56 | <pyrokamileon> | nothing returned after that command |
23:56 | <pyrokamileon> | xfce |
23:56 | <jello> | good |
23:56 | <jello> | pyrokamileon: run `startxfce4` |
23:57 | <ayaka> | nevyn: git clone url |
23:57 | <pyrokamileon> | hmmm, that worked |
23:57 | <nevyn> | ayaka: what was the url? |
23:57 | <jello> | pyrokamileon: good! |
23:58 | <pyrokamileon> | how to make a jaw dropped emoticon, *just kidding* |
23:58 | <ayaka> | nevyn: I forget |
23:58 | <jello> | pyrokamileon: so there's no problem with X |
23:58 | <pyrokamileon> | Xfce power manager says HAL daemon isn't running |
23:58 | <nevyn> | type history|grep clone |
23:58 | <jello> | pyrokamileon: rescue mode probably didn't start it |
23:59 | <jello> | not a big deal |
23:59 | <pyrokamileon> | I figured I had a settings issue, wherever my settings are that say rotate screen needs to be rm'd! |
23:59 | <pyrokamileon> | ok |
23:59 | <nevyn> | in fact type git remote -vv and tell me the output |
23:59 | <jello> | pyrokamileon: `xrandr | pastebinit` |
