00:26<someonelost>now my give icmp port unreachable and prev time port has opened for some activity bad activity
00:26-!-Alexander1 [] has joined #debian
00:26<someonelost>*my host*
00:27<someonelost>it locked my tor proxy what i mean bad activity
00:28<garn32>as in froze or crashed your proxy?
00:28<someonelost>i reinstall and receive this 49434 knocking from all networks
00:29<garn32>do you typically run tor as a router or do you run it for personal use?
00:29<someonelost>for personal use
00:29<someonelost>no router
00:29-!-SLot [~SLot@] has joined #debian
00:30<garn32>hmmm... I would still suspect tor to be a part of your problem, when you install tor do you explicitly turn off the routing functions?
00:30<someonelost>now i don't run tor
00:30-!-jespada [~jespada@] has joined #debian
00:31<someonelost>but someone knocking to another port 49343, you think malware came from tor network?
00:32<someonelost>why port is prefetched by debian:-)?
00:32<someonelost>or networks?
00:33<someonelost>really many diffrerent ip all time knocking

00:35<someonelost>so tor malware?
00:35-!-Fighter747 [] has joined #debian
00:35<garn32>no, it isn't it an anonymizer
00:36<garn32>it makes it much more difficult to track what you do on the Internet
00:36-!-da5id [] has quit []
00:36<someonelost>i see, i m running linux till 2001;-)
00:36<garn32>which for people concerned with privacy is important
00:37<someonelost>who is open 47731 port prev time?
00:37-!-Fighter747 [] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
00:37-!-Fighter747 [] has joined #debian
00:37<garn32>that would be hard to say, it could have been the port that tor chose at the time, which would be my guess, or it could be something else
00:39<someonelost>second question: why so many hosts knock on same port, which differs after each reinstall?
00:41<garn32>it is sounds like tor is the culprit here, to further protect people connecting though you tor will pick a different port each time to help keep statistical methods from discovering who is using you as a mirror
00:42-!-ben2morrow [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
00:42-!-vladuke [~vladuke@] has joined #debian
00:42-!-aharvey [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
00:42<someonelost>so all this things about tor network your guess?
00:43<garn32>yes that is what it sounds like to me you could stop the tor service on you box and see if the connections go away
00:44<someonelost>now i don't install tor at all, but knocking begin from early i start system
00:45<garn32>is there anything else on the network that this box is on?
00:45<someonelost>ssh maybe on 49344 port, but i run it after detecting activity:-)
00:46<garn32>I doubt that the connection would be ssh
00:46<someonelost>:-) me too
00:46<garn32>have you installed any other software on the system in question?
00:46<someonelost>fresh install
00:47<someonelost>especially for testing this issue
00:47-!-jm_ [] has joined #debian
00:47<garn32>have you looked at the connection that the box is listen on with 'netstat -anlupt'?
00:47<someonelost>--udp --tcp is empty
00:48<garn32>how about with 'lsof -i'?
00:48-!-Fighter747 [] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
00:48-!-Fighter747 [] has joined #debian
00:51<garn32>why are you listening for ssh on that strange port, you make that change?
00:52<someonelost>for funny:-)
00:52<scientes>what motherboards/CPUs have IOMMU?
00:53-!-nort [] has joined #debian
00:58<someonelost>scientes, it lot of dig is required for answer accurately for me:-)
00:58<scientes>cause when i've asked they didn't know jack
01:00<someonelost>garn32 any ideas what to do with strange traffic on my host from all around?
01:01<someonelost>to wait untill port opened and then catch trojan or somewhat like?
01:01<garn32>personally I'd collect some of it with a full packet capture and do some analysis, but that is the sort of thing that I like to waste my time on
01:01<garn32>the port shouldn't just open, this isn't a MS OS
01:02<someonelost>but it did:-)
01:02<garn32>so you'd have to open it or trigger it though a trojan, which if your system is truely clean shouldn't happen
01:03<someonelost>ufw is so complex to study i don't run any useless services so don't install ufw
01:04<garn32>but you do have iptables that you could use if you wanted to
01:04<someonelost>ufw is more simple
01:04<someonelost>but not now:-)
01:04<garn32>personal choices aside, it would be one route to use something like that to block the traffic

01:08<someonelost>ok, i will look for further actions from system on this activity on this port and if it triggers to open state then i will start to do smth
01:08<someonelost>thanks for your time, garn32
01:08<garn32>you could check for rootkit if you want to but I doubt that you'd find anything and furthermore it would be of little use if you already had one

01:23<garn32>there is the additional fact that he'd reinstalled the machine a couple of time and kept getting connections like that as well
01:24<scientes>well, there are plenty of servers out there that do nothing but scan for open ports

03:17<ultreja>hi, i've a question about ldap authentication. i inserted some users with posixAccount objectClass and some groups with posixGroup objectClass but using getent passwd command and getent group command there are no differences between this list and/etc/passwd - /etc/group
03:17<steeb>perhaps motion, its for motion tracking and also supports live http streaming
03:17<philipp>why should i use tcp for a cam stream?
03:18<ultreja>the added users in ldap database are not present the list of getent passwd
03:18<steeb>u could use vlc
