08:55<salamander>Hi there, given that I have just installed debian squeeze without desktop environment (because I want to use xfce or fluxbox, not gnome) ¿what would be the best way to install xorg and fluxbox or xfce? and what would you recomend ¿fb or xfce?
08:56<Zathras>snmpwalk is a tool to list available settings in a device. A MIB is a translationset to map the codes to names
08:56<Zathras>the MIB I added was not downloaded by the MIB-download thingy but copied manually from a CD
08:56<SynrG>!install xfce
08:56<dpkg>To install <Xfce> on established systems, ask me about <install x>, then: aptitude install xfce4 xfce4-goodies . To install using Debian-Installer (if not using Xfce CD-1): from the Installer boot menu, select "Advanced options > Alternative desktop environments > Xfce > Install".
08:57<SynrG>as for recommendations, that's entirely a matter of taste. i can't say one way or the other. it depends on your own needs/preferences.
08:58<Zathras>EnigmA-X, why did you ask?
08:58<SynrG>there is also lxde to consider, while you're thinking about minimal desktop environments

08:58<SynrG>if you expect a desktop environment, you probably won't be happy with a plain WM. and vice versa. if you only care about the WM doing what a WM does, you probably won't appreciate the "cruft" of a desktop environment.
08:59<rpetre>Zathras: sorry, i was a bit away, yes, i know webmin is bloated, i'll need something that can compare to the web interface of various home routers (i don't know, for managing dhcp and stuff, i guess)

13:35<retrospectacus>grub should only see one disk. if it sees 2 you have "fake raid"
13:35<dpkg>Fakeraid is a term used for controller cards that advertise RAID functionality that is NOT supported by a hardware chip for parity. Most of these have only a BIOS. For use with Debian systems, it is suggested that you do not set a RAID in the BIOS and don't use dmraid, just use regular software RAID instead; ask me about <md>.

13:55<retrospectacus>metalqg: why not just upgrade to wheezy
13:55<SynrG>metalqg: is this a short-term solution to migrate from lenny to wheezy? (by the way, you would have to do that in two steps: lenny->squeeze, squeeze->wheezy)
13:56<metalqg>retrospectacus I simply want to test it out first, for now lenny is pretty damn good, but the packages are getting pretty old and devs stopped issuing security updates
13:56<SynrG>why the big leap to wheezy? you know it's not released yet ...
13:57<SynrG>seems more sane to go from lenny -> squeeze
13:57<SynrG>and if you want to try it first, use a live system for that.
13:58<SynrG>or else: 1. make sure you have a good backup. 2. upgrade lenny->squeeze 3. enjoy (3a. restore system from backup)

18:56<jaidormi>hi. i use a DE that doesn't have a UI toolkit, but I still want to use GTK3 apps like evince, etc. how can I manage themes in such a situation? right now I have ridiculously large fonts in GTK3 apps, although I can have decent fonts with GTK2 apps.
18:57<nima>jaidormi: I run gnome-settings-daemon with openbox

22:35<dpkg>In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who posts rude or offensive messages on the Internet, such as in online discussion forums, to disrupt discussion or to upset its participants. "Troll" can also mean the message itself or be a verb meaning to post such messages. "Trolling" is also commonly used to describe the activity. Rule #1: Don't feed the troll. Rule #2: Really, don't feed the troll. Rule #3: See rule #1.
22:35<garn32>hmmm... to troll or not to troll
22:35<garn32>I see little difference it would make if I was a boy or girl in this case

23:16<lostson>im not sure of all the details of what it uses
23:16<salamander>I need the most lightweight and simple program, just to test an mp3 file. Later on I will install a desktop environment and vlc or mplayer
23:16<lostson>well then cmus may be overkill for what you are trying to do
23:17<devil>salamander: moc
23:17<salamander>Thanx anyway lostson, im looking at aptitude show cmus now, never heard of it
23:17<lostson>salamander: its a nice ncurses music player but yeah if you are just looking to test a single file it would be overkill
