00:11<tosted>whats the trick?
00:13<retrospectacus>orzo: apt-get rdepends foo
00:13<retrospectacus>orzo: apt-cache rdepends foo
00:14<tosted>why the old package could not recognize AR9271?

00:18<tosted>yeah...i can see that. but why the old one, did not work?
00:19<tosted>what the difference between ar and htc?
00:19<retrospectacus>tosted: because it didn't have htc_9271.fw
00:20<retrospectacus>orzo: you may also like "aptitude why foo" if you're wondering why you have some package installed
00:24<tosted>on i could see the difference...

03:11<arinov_>i need psql server 8.1 and i saw in aptitude only 8.4
03:11<arinov_>how to install 8.1 in 6.0.4?
03:12<weasel>you don't.
03:13<asfethan>arinov_: you can compile it by yourself, but why to do that?
03:13<arinov_>asfethan: its for open-project server daemon
03:13<weasel>if it does not work with the current postgresql, then it should be fixed.
03:13<nykac>why not 8.4?
03:13<weasel>it should not, and probably does not, need the ancient 8.1
03:14<asfethan>arinov_: I think it will be compatible
03:14<arinov_>i try to install it by theur instructions where they wrote "not 8.4"
03:14<weasel>that's because they wrote it years ago
03:14<nykac>what about 9
03:14<arinov_>9 is not stable yet... i think
03:14<weasel>(do you really want to install old, unmaintained stuff?)
03:14<weasel>arinov_: it is.
03:15<weasel>9.1 is even out there
03:15<weasel>(it's not in debian stable tho)
03:15<asfethan>then look for alternative sw
03:15<arinov_>and it is in stable debian repository?
03:15<weasel>(but 9.1 is in backports)
03:15<arinov_>i am new in debian world
03:15<arinov_>okay, i will try with 8.4
03:16<arinov_>if not - 9.1 from backport
03:16<nykac>arinov_: backports is a repo where new features and bugfixes are ported to an older version
03:16<arinov_>it not again - compilation
03:16<nykac>of debian
03:19<arinov_>is (older == stable)?

03:50<scientes>prem, yes privoxy is more flexible, but adblockplus removed elements from the actual page, and reduces overhead and ram more than privoxy can
03:51<scientes>but yeah privoxxy isn't bad
03:51<scientes>privvoxy has the capability of covering more than one hosts for example
03:51<scientes>and it can also do stuff that adblockplus can't

05:27<dpkg>Debian is working towards the ability to install packages from one architecture on a machine that is running a different architecture. This makes i386/amd64 issues simpler (no more ia32-libs!), helps tag firmware blobs with the correct arch and allows easier cross-compiling and bootstrapping. Multiarch support is a release goal for Debian 7.0 "Wheezy".

19:37<scientes>when and who is going to get the infrasturcture built to have launchpad build for debian?
19:37<daemonkeeper>sorry what?
19:37<scientes>or ever more specifically: the software hosted/built by canonical's launchpad
19:38-!-wissem_ [~localhost@] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
19:40<retrospectacus>why would anyone?
19:40<scientes>cause software developers are using it as a platform
19:41<daemonkeeper>You want Launchpad for Debian?
19:41<scientes>well, just the software that launchpad hosts
19:41<scientes>not all the other shit
19:41<scientes>(personal opinion there)
19:41<retrospectacus>I don't think Debian is interested in any such system. I know I'm not
19:42<daemonkeeper>It's not. This was clearly discussed some months ago.
19:42<scientes>its just that launchpad only builds for ubuntu, not debian, which is stupid
19:42<themill>A real question that isn't full of buzzwords might even get an answer. (other than "ask #ubuntu")
19:42-!-thunderrd [~thunderrd@] has joined #debian
19:43<scientes>im not using buzzwords
19:43<scientes>its just there alot of software there, and while you CAN install the version build for ubuntu on debian
19:43<themill>"platform" "hosted"... none of this actually means anything
19:43<scientes>there can be version problems
19:44<scientes>themill, i'm trying to differentiate between launchpad the software, and launchpad, canonicals instance (and basically only instance) of the software
19:44<scientes>it runs a build service for 3rd party software
19:44-!-Naeblis [~naeblis@] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
19:44<scientes>opensuse's build service, for example, can build against ubuntu, debian, fedora, rhel, and opensuse
19:45<scientes>but launchpad builds ONLY against ubuntu
19:45<themill>wth do you mean by "builds against"?
19:45<scientes>the versions, and naming of the libraries of that distribution
19:45<retrospectacus>the whole concept behind "launchpad" goes against debian philosohies IMHO. We should continue in #debian-offtopic though
