02:04<lnik>jm_: well you could say it is linux related and as i am using debian right now..
02:06<lnik>i just dont understand what i am supposed to do, so i figured i would ask here if anyone can tell me how to link an application, maybe it means i just have to create an symlink but im not sure about that
02:07<Thanatermesis>how to change my gcc version ? i have by default 4.6 in wheezy and i want 4.7 (its installed but stills pointing to 4.6)
02:07<jm_>lnik: then try #debian-offtopic; just linking an application with some library is useless - it needs to use symbols provided by the library

02:44<mpthompson>Thanatermesis: /usr/bin/gcc should be a symbolic link to gcc-4.6. If so, the following should work: cd /usr/bin ; sudo ln -s gcc-4.7 gcc
02:44<mpthompson>Make sure /usr/bin/gcc-4.7 is in the directory first though.
02:46<Thanatermesis>mpthompson, if i do that it will not break the automated switch between newever versiosn ?
02:46<Thanatermesis>i mean, the package gcc will install new versions when available and linking automatically to the desired one
02:47-!-lionel_ [] has joined #debian
02:47-!-libreofficer [~libreoffi@] has joined #debian
02:47<thehf>ah hi
02:47<thehf>i have done a dist-upgrade to wheezy, and my raid1 stopped working, i get errors on boot. if i provide a root password i can fix it by doing "mdadm --assemble /dev/md0 /dev/sdb /dev/sdb" and with exit the boot process completes without problems, unlocking the disks with luks from crypttab and mounting it works well
02:47<mpthompson>I believe the issue is that the 'gcc' metapackage is tied to gcc-4.6 and simply installing gcc-4.7 won't reset the gcc->gcc-4.6 link.
02:48-!-wolfpython_ [~wolf@] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
02:48<mpthompson>That won't happen until the metapackage is updated. I presume sometime in the future in wheezy or something.
02:48<Thanatermesis>thehf, what package has caused that ? update of mdadm ?
02:49<Thanatermesis>mpthompson, mmh, i was thinking that it was better made, like the alternatives feature or something like that
02:49-!-lionel [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
02:49-!-wolf_ [~wolf@] has joined #debian
02:49<thehf>Thanatermesis, i am unsure, only done a dist upgrade, a lot of packages got updated
02:50<Thanatermesis>thehf, i have a wheezy with raid0 too but i have not noticed anything yet (updated and rebooted since yesterday)
02:50<jm_>this is discussed in the following file: /usr/share/doc/cpp/README.Debian
02:50<thehf>are the md0.. devices still located in /dev/ ?
02:51<mpthompson>Thanatermesis. I really don't know. I'm mostly working with Wheezy on arm systems and a 4.7 package is not yet available for us as far as I can tell.
02:51-!-massmc [~massmc@] has joined #debian
02:51<thehf>ARRAY /dev/md0 metadata=1.2 UUID=8b7.... name=raid:0 this is the line from /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf worked well before i updated
02:52<Thanatermesis>thehf, yes, md1 & md2 devices in /dev
02:52<mpthompson>Oh, as jm_ points out, there is a gcc-defaults package which manages the link.
02:52<thehf>if i start /etc/init.d/mdadm-raid start i get no errors but my raid is also not set up
02:52<Thanatermesis>thehf, but nothing in the directory /dev/md/
02:52<thehf>Thanatermesis, ok, same here if i assemble this raid manually
02:53<Thanatermesis>mpthompson, my dist-upgrade wont include 4.7, so i installed manually, but gcc was not linked to it yet

02:55<mpthompson>Thanatermesis: If you manually installed gcc then manually setting the gcc link probably is what you need to do.
02:55<Thanatermesis>thehf, this is mine, maybe try with this type of conf? ARRAY /dev/md2 UUID=8afa815c:97b097cf:bfe7d7cd:c3e84b05
02:56<Thanatermesis>mpthompson, my problem is that i have very bad memory and if i do it manually i risk to have updates of newer gcc versions and never remember that i have set it manually, so always still using old gcc lol

03:00<mpthompson>Perhaps there are ideas there.
03:00<thehf>without providing metadata= and name= ?
03:00<thehf>ah UID with ":" and not with a "-" is this the same in your fstab?

23:21<nsadmin>Hi, looked at the mirror already, not there. So I was wondering if the pg maint keeps copies of pg around. Specifically right now, I'm looking for pg-9.0.x to fore/backport to squeeze... also, I noticed that the 9.1 postgres dir on the mirror has no .diff but there are two uploads of it.... what's the deal here? :)

23:59<Elv13>Hi, how can I use hibernate-ram, it keep telling me the kernel does not support it. Why is that the case? Suspend to ram is quite common?
