00:00<ung>do you use squeeze or wheezy ?
00:00<homercycles>ung: now using wheezy. had to because squeeze doesn't support LAN on my new mobo
00:01<ung>don't install it cause it install too much but look at
00:01<ung>it's the kde full version so you can check the package and install only the package that you need
00:01<ung>exemple : kopete is in kde-standard
00:01<homercycles>ung: thanks :-)
00:05<homercycles>ung: I don't suppose there's a way I can add a top panel and put launchers on it (so I can re-create a comforting gnome-esque feel)? oh, and do you know of a good KDE chatroom in which I should probably direct my questions?

00:07<ung>in the top right corner, you can add a panel
00:07<ung>but to customise kde, I only use it since 2-3 weeks, i used gnome for years but i'm new to kde
00:08<homercycles>ung: you're a gnome refugee too, eh? it's sad really
00:08<craigevil>homercycles, #debian-kde , or #kde on freenode
00:08<homercycles>craigevil: thanks :-)

00:13<homercycles>um, isn't there a GUI package manager in KDE?
00:14<homercycles>hmm, I don't have that installed
00:15<homercycles>ung: ah, that's better. that add/remove programs thingy in gnome3 was horrid
00:16<ung>you can also use synaptic on gnome :)
00:17<homercycles>ung: it doesn't seem to be installed by default anymore, though. I sure hope Debian isn't attracted to the dumbing-down of things like other distros. that would concern me greatly

06:23<pparadis>if you happen to need a very specific kernel version for something to work, which is highly unlikely, you may need to compile your own kernel, which i would advise against given my perception of your position.
06:23<Ormie>is that the latest one avaliable... o.o
06:24<pparadis>Ormie: when you're asking questions, it's really good to explain what you're using right now, what you're trying to do, what you expect it to do, what it does instead, etc.

06:24<Ormie>right, so i install the .deb file

10:04<M-T>misery, then fb starts much later in the boot proces what I also already thought about but from that moment on it should turn. But I does not. So actually my problem is also to understand when in the boot process is used what for displaying.

16:48<jparkton>and irssi has some strange autocorrect as well since that sentence looks like I typed it with my feet
16:48<sney_>it might just be removing the lenny xorg and gnome from before the upgrade, they don't get purged so aptitude thinks it can "remove" them
16:48<jparkton>it also wants to remove my epiphany and all my menu items
16:49<dpkg>In order for us to troubleshoot your problem with apt-get, aptitude or dselect we need the following information: The complete output of your apt-get/aptitude/dselect run (including the command you used); the output from apt-cache policy PKG1 PKG2...; for the relevant packages and "apt-cache policy". 19:41<sney_>lancelot_of: why do you want to install an older kernel?
19:42-!-kaizoku__ [] has joined #debian
19:42<lancelot_of>sney, maybe the reason is not important, the question is how to do, if it's possible to do..
19:43<jparkton>sney, upgrade went fine ish
19:43-!-dizzylizzy [] has joined #debian
19:43<jparkton>when I boot up I get a message about if upgrade went well enter this in terminal but I cant copy it lol
19:44<jparkton>then udev puts out a lot of errors
19:44<sney_>lancelot_of: well, I would suggest downloading the .deb of the kernel from and just installing it with dpkg -i, rather than trying to do it with apt. but if you are doing it because some hardware says it needs 2.6.32 that actually means it needs 2.6.32 or newer, so your 3.2 on wheezy will be just fine
19:44<sney_>jparkton: you can find your boot messages by running dmesg

23:16<Techy2493>Can anyone suggest a Virtualization method I can use to run autonamously once setup, and supports NAT or configuring multiple ip's from a single NIC, but does not require setting up a bridge? I was looking at KVM and Xen until I found out I can't use a bridge.

23:21<pparadis>Techy2493: i think i know what they're actually doing. they're probably allowing/disallowing ARP traffic to your server NIC based on MAC. if you can assign multiple IPs to the server, you can use them for VMs as well, with a twist.
23:21-!-AbsintheSyringe [] has quit [Max SendQ exceeded]
23:22<pparadis>Techy2493: you'll probably need to take one of your available IPs and assign it directly to the host, enable IPv4 forwarding on the host, and use that IP as the gateway for your VMs.
23:23<pparadis>Techy2493: you can surely use multiple IPs on the host itself, and the setup described above fixes the likely issue you're actually facing. i'm assuming they don't forbid virtualization or anything, but the way they control ARP traffic is what's hosing you up.
23:24<pparadis>Techy2493: anyhow, this is probably veering offtopic for this chennl, but i think that should steer you in the right direction.
23:24<Techy2493>pparadis: Ok, I'll look into that. Unfortuantely if you are right on how they are blocking it it also means I've spent a week trying to figure out how to set up this bridge from your guide and failed miserably anyway...
23:24<pparadis>(note: the host already has to have an IP assigned to it of course, i mean assign _another_ IP to it separately to use as a gateway IP)
