04:49-!-hicham [~hicham@] has joined #debian
04:49<hicham>where can I get help about debian's phpmyadmin ?
04:50<pparadis>hicham: you might try asking in #phpmyadmin on
04:50<chaos>pparadis: thx
04:50<hicham>pparadis: it is debian's related
04:51<hicham>pparadis: it is about how debian's handles phpmyadmin's config
04:51<pparadis>hicham: then you should describe your question in detail, starting with what version of debian you're using, what version of phpmyadmin is installed, what seems to be broken, etc.
04:52<pparadis>hicham: alternately, for something very specific, you could reach out to the package maintainers, which are listed on the right on this page:
04:52-!-mekt [~mekt@] has joined #debian
04:53<hicham>pparadis: I am using debian 6.0.5, phpmyadmin 4:3.3.7-7, the websetup's generated config doesn't seem to be taken into account
04:54-!-aousterh [~aousterh@] has joined #debian
04:54<pparadis>hicham: this probably has more to do with your web server configuation than debian itself. that said, more information would be needed to even begin to try to help you with this here.
04:55-!-abdulkarim [~abdulkari@] has joined #debian
04:55<mekt>I have a script which is not executed in /etc/ppp/ip-up.d automatically when the interface comes up at boot or when executing pon. I do not know of anything in that directory which runs. I have tested it with 'runparts --test' and it is shown that it would execute. What documentation might help me? Ideas on the problem?
04:55<pparadis>hicham: someone here may or may not be able to help you if you do provide more detailed information. you may have better luck with these resources -->
04:55<chaos>hicham: you might wanna try #php too, if it's a problem with your config they be able to help
04:55-!-ari___ [] has joined #debian
04:58<pparadis>mekt: you might make sure the script has proper permissions first, and then possibly pastebin it for others to look at. does the script run properly when you manually run it?

05:09<mekt>Yes. The script for 'bind' would run before. I guess i will try disabling it to see if it could cause problem and prevent mine from running.

05:13<mekt>no, it does not.

06:35<tweek_>i have a weird problem: every once in a while, my external usb disk 'vanishes', i get input/output error when trying to read a file. oddly, so far this has only happened when transmission-daemon is running. before, when the disk was partitioned normally, un- and re-plugging it and then remounting it fixed it. then i reformatted it with an encrypted lvm, and now when the above happens, i have to reboot the computer to be able to mount it again. so my question
06:35<towo^work>afuentes, usb-stick?
06:35<afuentes>towo^work, nothing connected :/

07:28<pparadis>yeah, it is indeed kdesudo
07:28<nevyn>and it's in kdesudo
07:28<pparadis>that's also kinda odd, because i don't get that behavior.
07:28<nevyn>which requires you configure sudo
07:28<nevyn>which behavior?
07:28<pparadis>if i pop open a terminal and su - root, i can launch an X app as root.

07:29<pparadis>nevyn: i'm talking about doing it from an established X session as a normal user.
07:30<nevyn>pparadis: you've added xhost +localhost or xhost+
07:30<homercycles>KDE used to nag me for my root password, and offered to let me remember the password and all, but now it no longer does that and shoes the bouncy icon for 10 seconds (I reduced it from 30)

07:31<pparadis>but i'm telling you i made no such manual modification.
07:31<nevyn>so xhost access control will prevent a different user on the same system from connecting to your X server it's just how it works. (this includes root)
07:32<pparadis>right, i get that, i'm saying this means there's a difference between the minimal desktop systems i typically use and what he's using.
07:33<homercycles>I added myself to sudoers and now "kdesudo synaptic" works, but why would KDE's native ability to prompt me to elevate privileges suddenly die?
07:33<pparadis>nevyn: you don't seem to understand, i'm not disputing the correctness of what you're saying, i'm saying last i did that i didn't get that behavior (it was on a squeeze desktop).

20:31<ratnick>to avoid errors when more than one application is running?
20:31<pparadis>ratnick: for giving the grabbing application exclusive control of the mouse and keyboard until that control is released. this is frequently done in things like virtualbox VM interface windows, for example, unless they're running guest additions that allow seamless use of the input devices on both at once.
20:32<ratnick>ok. my example involves claws-mail and entering passphrases

20:33<ung>if I installed the 3.2 backports kernel on squeeze, should I be able to boot on 2.6 too ?
20:33<pparadis>ung: the general answer is yes.
20:33<pparadis>but it may vary depending on what else you have installed and the exact steps you've taken.
20:34<ung>cause when I installed the backports and booted in 3.2, my screen was flashing
20:34<ung>after I reinstalled graphic driver (the same version btw), it was ok
20:35<pparadis>that's because of ABI changes between 2.6 and 3.2 most likely.
