00:23<genoskill>apaulson: hi, I removed the id3v1 tags, and the lyrics3v2 tags went away with them like it was said on the link. I installed i3dv2 and did "id3v2 -s *.mp3".
00:23-!-clopez [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:23-!-kevinbenko [] has quit [Quit: KVIrc 4.1.3 Equilibrium]
00:24<apaulson>genoskill: do you now have the correct tags (without the lyrics3v2)?
00:26<apaulson>genoskill: also, you may want to look at beets for automatically tagging audio files
00:26-!-prem [~prem@] has joined #debian
00:26<genoskill>apaulson: actually my problem was that replay-gain wasn't working on gmusicbrowser because of the lyrics3v2 tags. I don't know the relation but I tried removing them and then the file played fine with his db gain.
00:27<apaulson>genoskill: that is a weird bug O_o
00:27-!-scientes [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:28-!-sl1ce [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
00:30-!-sl1ce [] has joined #debian
00:31-!-stdhell [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
00:32<genoskill>apaulson: indeed. So I wanted to remove the lyrics3v2 tags of all the files with a command or something similar, because by gui takes too long. gmusicbrowser has an exceptional tag editor, but it doesn't have an option to massively remove entire containers.

03:41<defe>hi, I'm having bit of a trouble getting packages from testing - I'm trying to get lib32asound2-plugins 1.0.25 from testing, but apt-get keeps giving me 1.0.23 from main with 'apt-get -t testing install lib32asound2-plugins'

08:39<SynrG>if you're using debian, why are you asking on an ubuntu support forum?
08:39<Korigan>because were guessing some people would help me there
08:39<grove>s/oy/you, and I won't stop helping if a conversation strays, but when asked, I find it it wise to say this channel is for stable, so people can go straight to #debian-next if they already know that's where they'll end

08:43<Woet>topic that is

08:44<abrotman>Woet: it doesn't say you must go .. just that it exists
08:44<SynrG>Woet: because we're better equipped at #debian-next to handle questions, not because it's unwelcome here
08:44<Korigan>in fact i didn't see any error in /var/log/syslog related to this
08:44<abrotman>Woet: (also a bit of advertising, it's a newer channel)
08:44<Woet>abrotman: okay, so off-topic doesn't mean it should go to #debian-offtopic? just that it exists?

08:44<abrotman>Woet: note the advertising :)
08:45<abrotman>Woet: i didn't create it, don't ask me
08:45<dpkg>#debian is primarily a support channel for Debian users. Please keep the discussions in #debian on-topic and take longer discussions and non-support questions to #debian-offtopic. Imagine the chaos if each of the hundreds of people in the channel felt the need to wander off topic for a few minutes every day.
08:45<abrotman>Woet: i mean, i didn't create that part of the topic
08:45<Woet>well, since it's expressed the same way in the topic it makes it seem like it means the same. but that might just be me
08:45<SynrG>Woet: the channel topic is very dense. not really space there to express the finer distinction
08:45<abrotman>also note, that /topic has limited space to express ideas :)

09:28<SynrG>Korigan: dunno. a udev rule that installs a badly built deb sounds terrifying :p as for the postinst, aside from the fact that it assumes the existence of the directory you cd to and the things it subsequently executes from those directories without first explicitly checking, i can't see what's wrong (nor do we even know if the bug is in the postinst). a "set -x" sprinkled in may help. packaging is a topic a bit beyond the scope of this ...
09:28<SynrG>... channel and handled in #debian-mentors
09:30<SynrG>"roll your own by hand" is certainly an interesting exercise, but it is one fraught with difficulty. what i've observed so far is that you may benefit from using debhelper instead. but still, whether you use such tools or not, i would write that postinst with a bit more checking
09:31<SynrG>all we've managed to determine so far is "something went wrong" and do not yet have a smoking gun. you'll need to do the pretty standard process of increasing verbosity in the problem area, keeping good logs, and figuring out on your own best you can what is going "bonk"
09:32<SynrG>sorry, and good luck

17:47<Lee54>i just did :)
17:48<gotmynick>nothe that doing as root sudo -u user cmd, you are using sudo to become the user
17:48<gotmynick>but then the user is launching the sh without sudo
17:49<Lee54>right :) and the user also has permission to run the file, as the file is saved as that user... basically throwing something in rc.local to run at boot but it can'tbe run as root so using sudo to have the user run it at root :)

22:29<kop>nyov: I tend to put glibc on hold, then unhold, do the upgrade, and put it back on hold.
22:29<kop>nyov: However, in my experience glibc does not restart services automatically, although I don't really pay attention.

22:40<nyov>kop: it does this after setting up glibc, but usually it askes. now i answered a debconf question that allows it to do so automatically
22:40<nyov>which is not what I want, I figured out after the fact :)
22:41<nyov>Setting up libc6 (2.13-33) ...
22:41<nyov>Checking for services that may need to be restarted...
22:41<nyov>Restarting services possibly affected by the upgrade: postfix: restarting...done. cron: restarting...done.
22:41<nyov>^ that
22:41<kop>nyov: dpkg-reconfigure libc6 If that's what's triggering it.
22:42<nyov>yeah I thought so too. but nothing there
