03:03<ArtVandalae>Hi all. I'm currently triaging a bug on Wheezy that means that I cannot boot 1. Boot without disabling KMS and 2. Boot into X (using my Nvidia GTX560) without proprietary Nvidia drivers. It appears to be an issue with Nouveau. I've found some bug reports that are similar to the issue I've been experience. Is there any particular chat room I can join for X (possibly kernel?) related bugs/issues?

03:07-!-cnanakos [~cnanakos@] has joined #debian
03:07<pajaro>ArtVandalae, you can try something like /list *nvidia* or /list *nv*
03:07<jm_>ArtVandalae: well I build my own kernels from, but whatever works for you (nouveau wiki page says "Most development talk occurs in the #nouveau IRC channel on freenode.", but I guess this would be best used in combination with upstream kernel)
03:08<jm_>it also has troubleshooting section
03:08<jm_>I only tried nouveau once with gtx550 - still using binary only driver myself

03:10<nikil>i'm installed a .deb that depends on ia32-libs. i know what i386 packages the deb needs to function, and i can install them via multiarch. i don't want to install ia32-libs. how do i get apt to stop complaining about the unmet dependencies?

03:11<scientes>nikil, install the 32-bit version of the deb on amd64
03:11<scientes>nikil, not the faux 32-bit version, those type of packages are deprecated
03:11<nikil>there is only one deb, it's an old ubuntu package
03:11<nikil>the other debs i've found won't work
03:11-!-FragByte [] has joined #debian
03:12<scientes>nikil, there should also be a .deb for 32-bit machines
03:12<scientes>that doesn't require ia32-libs
03:12<nikil>oh, i see what you're saying
03:12<nikil>lemme see if i can find it...
03:12<scientes>those are meant to be supported of amd64 machines/installes trough multi-arch
03:12<scientes>while the faux 64-bit versions are NOT supported

13:02<levlivnev>Hi, I was planning on installing Debian on a 2008 Macbook to boot alongside OS X, and was wondering if I'd be better off with squeeze or should I go for wheezy?
13:02<levlivnev> and only seem to have status updates as of 2010, so I was wondering if there's anything recent I need to be aware of.
13:03<jmorton>I would recommend Wheezy because it's more up to date
13:03<levlivnev>okay that's what I thought. I run wheezy on my other computer so
13:03<jmorton>also, Wheezy is on the verge of being marked Stable, whereas Squeeze is similarly on the verge of being marked oldstable

13:06<levlivnev>Another question. The wikis seem to suggest using rEFIt and BIOS grub and chainload from the Mac partition into the Debian one. However, grub-efi seems to exist, is this a bad idea? The wiki doesn't have any recent updates on this...

13:07<sney>yeah, there's not a lot of information about efi booting.
13:07<jmorton>I don't know, I haven't tried to run Linux on my MBP yet
13:07<jmorton>it's obviously very different from my old PowerBooks though
13:08<sney>levlivnev, from it says grub-efi is intended to work with intel macs
13:09<levlivnev>Right, I have the impression that chainloading will be more straightforward. Besides, I have experience using rEFIt when usb booting linux and it seemed to be okay
13:09<levlivnev>unless anyone knows of any resources about grub-efi
13:09<sney>grub-efi should Just Work(tm) ideally
13:09<sney>chainloading is always a workaround

14:51<thedead>Hi all. I was wondering, is there any updated firefox's repo for debian? I used to rely on the mozillateam ppa, but, now, the stable branch has been closed (ubuntu have firefox in its main repos).
14:52<thedead>sney: thank for the reply but i found only things about iceweasel on that, is there even firefox and thunderbird?
14:53<sney>iceweasel is firefox
14:53<babilen>thedead: Iceweasel *is* firefox
14:53<sney>!why iceweasel
14:53<dpkg>Due to Mozilla logos licensing, Mozilla software isn't DFSG-free, so Debian distributes Mozilla software with different logos. One day Mozilla Corporation decided to revoke the agreement to let Debian use Mozilla trademarks, so Debian changed to non-trademarked product names. See for more information. Ask me about <dfsg>.
14:54<thedead>guys....I know that iceweasel "is" firefox, but i ask precisely for firefox because they want me to use it at work. I'm using iceweasel even now but i also need firefox.
14:55<retrospectacus>thedead: edit /usr/share/applications/iceweasel.desktop and give it the firefox logo and title.
14:55<babilen>thedead: Then you can't use Debian packages and you are forced to use (totally unsupported) manual FF installations.
14:56<babilen>thedead: How will they check if you use Iceweasel or FF? IW is FF in everything but the name and you might be able to disguise it like retrospectacus recommended. This is *stupid* though and *everybody* should be aware of that.
14:56<thedead>retrospectacus: this is not the operation i would like to perform
14:56<retrospectacus>thedead: just tell them you *are* using firefox. Because you are.
14:56<babilen>thedead: In fact you should ridicule whoever enforces that policy every day!
14:57<thedead>guys...okay...i'll think about this.
14:57<soreivory>what is iceweasel

19:21<devil>afigueiredo: do you always run 2 soundcards? do you have a asound.rc in place?
19:21<mercutio22>there's a virtualbox-guest-addditions-iso package and I installed it but the virtualbox manager does not seem to consider I have it. Any clues?
