00:04<Ablac>hey :)
00:04<Ablac>How can i install Java 7.9 or OpenJDK 7.9 in debian?
00:04<tpo>retrospectacus: yes with that line added
00:05<tpo>I'm on a shell on the installer, creating the blacklist file
00:05<memos>hello! I need help with clamav and exim4. I've added the clamav user to Debian-exim but still got the permission error. I changed the scan folder to be group writable but still the permission problem exists. I am not using selinux or apparmor or something relative to these then some of the solutions i found with google are not for me ... what else i have to do?
00:06<retrospectacus>tpo: alright!
00:06<tpo>okay there's a file called blacklist.conf on /etc/modprobe.conf
00:06<retrospectacus>,v openjdk-7-jdk
00:06<judd>Package: openjdk-7-jdk on i386 -- sid: 7u3-2.1.3-1; wheezy: 7u3-2.1.3-1; experimental: 7u9-2.3.3-1
00:06<tpo>I added the line "blacklist radeon"... so, theoretically, saving changes will blacklist the thing and allow me to see something on the screen right?
00:06-!-bryanmtdt [~bryanmtdt@] has joined #debian
00:07-!-roberto [~roberto@] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
00:07<retrospectacus>Ablac: ^ run wheezy or sid and install it from experimental
00:07<Ablac>last time we did that the server broke
00:07<retrospectacus>no doubt
00:07<Ablac>when we updated to Unstable or Wheezy
00:07<Ablac>it broke...
00:07<dpkg>i heard sid is the codename for <unstable>, named after the kid in Toy Story that breaks toys. The great thing about running sid is that, when it breaks you get to keep ALL the pieces!!
00:08<Ablac>I downloaded it to my computer and uploaded the linix version to the server
00:08<tpo>retrospectacus: IT WORKED!!!
00:08<Ablac>how can i run it?
00:08<tpo>now what hehe?

00:10<retrospectacus>right. what kernel are you running now? uname -a
00:10<tpo>3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 to be exact hehe
00:10<Ablac>How can i get Java 7.9 on Squeeze?
00:11<retrospectacus>tpo: the ethernet should work now, plug in and run "dmesg|tail " to see what happened
00:11<Ablac>I downloaded the .gz file from
00:11<Ablac>and uploaded it to the server but not sure how to run/extract it
00:11<retrospectacus>Ablac: well you can extract it with "tar" but you'll have to go to for support after that
00:12<tpo>eth0: no ipv6 routers present... does that mean I'm connected?
00:12<ectospasm>Ablac: if it's a tar.gz or tgz you can run "tar -xvf /path/to/java/download.tar.gz" There might be a README in there that will tell you what to do next.
00:13<retrospectacus>I told you how to run it on debian, maybe you should look at making a virtual machine to install it in
00:13<ectospasm>Ablac: IIRC there will be an executable archive within it (a shell script wrapped around a binary blob) that will be the installer
00:14<tpo>retrospectacus: I'm in aptitude and I see fglrx-modules-dkms is that the guy I must install?

16:09<Fornm>can someone help me with resetting my root passwd (deb starter here)
16:10<pcuser>Fornm, the way I would do it (not an expert) is to boot to a liveCD then modify your hdd's /etc/shadow with a hash that you know the password for.
16:10<towo`>jeremy_, install alsamixergui, start it and look, if the IEC958 switch is activated, if so, unswitch it
16:11<self>Fornm: passwd
16:11<pcuser>self, that assumes he knows the passwd or has sudo
16:11<self>that assumes he *is* root.
16:11<pcuser>resetting the passwrod usually implies not.
16:12<self>oh yeah?
16:12<towo`>on most live-cd there is no root password
