01:58<Poenikatu>Or perhaps "The node <Top> cannot be found"
01:58-!-rsalveti [~rsalveti@] has joined #debian
02:00<jm_>that's odd, as /usr/share/info/dir is a top node file, and it clearly exists
02:00<SamB>er, Top is supposed to be the top node in an info file
02:01<SamB>oh, I guess the dir file got corrupted?
02:01<Poenikatu>SamB: Agreed, but why does the -f file version work but not the plain unadorned "info" command?
02:01<SamB>hmm, maybe a *different* dir file than that one
02:02<jm_>strace says that's exactly the one it uses for me
02:02<Poenikatu>After I've done an "apt-get update" and "apt-get dist-upgrade", I always issue the command "LC_ALL=C update-info-dir" as root
02:02<jm_>perhaps run it yourself to see which one it's trying to open
02:02<jm_>you don't need to do that
02:03<Poenikatu>Well, when I was using sid, I found that after a dist-upgrade, the info command wouldn't work, but after issuing the above update-info-dir, it did.

02:07<SamB>yes, we do

02:23<Poenikatu>jm_: I could paste the first 20 lines of /usr/share/info/dir. Would that help?
02:24<jm_>Poenikatu: maybe put strace to some pastebin instead so I can compare it
02:24<SamB>Poenikatu: it's not particularly surprising that it would give roughly the same error message in english as in whatever that was ...

02:48<jm_>Poenikatu: maybe try rebuilding dir file in there and you should no longer have to run update-info-dir by hand
02:49<Poenikatu>Yes, the dir file has a preamble, some remarks, and the dir file proper starts with ^_ according to less.

Sometimes it makes me add an unencrypted /boot partition (this time) but I just let it run almost 48hrs to encrypt the two partitions totaling 1tb. Is there anyway to break up the / directory (the smaller of the two) without having to restart the process? I can only find the option of erasing the data on the volume but I can't find
15:27<birch> an option to decrypt and shrink that partition. Thanks!
