05:26<SynrG>gour: and by 'with two subvolumes' you're implying lvm
05:27<SynrG>wheezy could handle lvm. unless there's something seriously wrong with it, jessie will too. however, the recommended way to install jessie at this point is still via the wheezy installer and then upgrade.

05:29<gour>SynrG: well, i'd use jessie-a1 installer and then move to,i don't imply lvm. that's one of the points of using btrfs to avoid lvm2 and/or mdadm when using raid1

12:36<user4>I tested the Samsung external DVD drive with a Thinkpad laptop and it works great with it. Could there be some sort of a BIOS setting that is causing that error message? MB model is MSI H81M-P33 and the CPU is Intel G3220.

16:45<DNS>i got issue with a vserver that it needs upstart to work proper with openvz but if i do a dist-upgrade actually it asks me to remove upstart and install sysvinit ^^
16:46<somiaj>DNS: what version of debian is this server running and what are you dist-upgrading to/from?
16:46-!-thos37 [] has quit [Quit: thos37]
16:46<DNS>somiaj: wheezy
16:46<somiaj>you shouldn't need to 'dist-upgrade' a wheezy system, just run upgrade that will keep you from pulling in new packages

16:46<somiaj>dist-upgrade is say from squeeze to wheezy, or from wheezy to jessie
16:47<somiaj>within a stable release you shouldn't need to dist-upgrade (just upgrade)
16:47<somiaj>the difference is dist-upgrade will pull in new packages and remove old packages to solve dependency issues (this might be the core of your problem)
16:47<DNS>i use dist-upgrade for a few years now already
16:47<DNS>but mainly i use sid at home

16:53<DNS>when openvz has sysvinit installed then there are some issues
16:53<somiaj>DNS: now upstart replaces sysvinit, but maybe you have some strange thing in your sources.list or in your installed package making apt think that the best course of action is to install sysvinit
16:53<DNS>not in my case
16:53<somiaj>DNS: so this should not happen and is either a bug or a problem with your sources.list having unoffical sources confusing apt.
16:54<DNS>if sysvinit is installed the box wouldnt boot anymore
16:54<DNS>everything in my sources.list is original debian sources
16:54<somiaj>well yea, the upstart package is supose to 'replace' sysvinit and as such apt should know that this is happening
16:55-!-lostatwork [] has joined #debian
16:55<somiaj>but it seems as there is something installed on your machine that is making apt think that it has to have sysvinit, and then when it installs that it has to remove upstart. I cannot think of the best course of action to track down what is the ofending package(s) causing this to happen
16:55-!-lam [] has joined #debian
16:55<somiaj>the using upgrade over dist-upgrade was just a suggestion to keep getting security updates with out tracking down the underlying issue. It is probabaly some slight issue with package depends, etc

23:05<ncl>well, rsync with a couple options should easily do a full backup, and you could just combine that with cron, right?
