05:07<athrt>seeing straing behavior on my debian laptop. it took i wile to figure out but i think i might have found out what is happening, hopping someone here can explain to me why and how to change it.... i have a USB stick with a ext4 partition... when i insert it and go to my executable scripts they run fine... however when i have the usb stick inserted at boot i see strange premission dinied errors.. just now i installed "lethe" ... when i boot with USB
05:07<athrt>stick the stick is recognized but scripts willnot run... if i insert after boot the usb stick partion table is not recognized... so i was wondering to my debian box, what is the diffrence between usbstick inserted ad boot and usb inserted when loged into m Xserver based userland? i never really understood the linux filesystem, but could it be that mounted at boot it becomes part of the root tree and otherwish somehow mouned with diffrently securety
05:07<athrt> level?

12:50<DeadMan>hello friends
12:50<retrospectacus>DeadMan: hi
12:51<DeadMan>i need a help
12:51<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on See <smart questions><errors>.

12:57<k_>retrospectacus, wifi led turns green when it works, now it's red... this is a fairly new hp g001sv laptop, I'll search on backports for firmware and come again later

12:58<retrospectacus>!free memory
12:58<dpkg>Unlike information, your computer's memory does *not* want to be free. Free RAM is wasted RAM! Linux tries to use free physical memory for caching files from disk which speeds up disk access considerably. Linux releases RAM from these caches if programs need it. If you want to know how much physical memory the free(1) tool says you have left for program use, it's 'free' + 'buffers' + 'cache'. Also ask me about <swapwake>.

17:40<dpkg>AMD's Unified Video Decoder (UVD) engine enables hardware-accelerated video decoding on Radeon HD graphics cards. The open source <radeon> driver supports UVD through <VDPAU> since Linux 3.10; Radeon HD 4000 and later GPUs (UVD2 hardware and newer) are supported. UVD microcode is required and packaged for Debian since firmware-linux-nonfree 0.39. VDPAU drivers for radeon are packaged as mesa-vdpau-drivers.

20:35<SynrGy>"it"? this /dev/LMDE thing? that's not a sensible name for a device under /dev. if you want to uniquely identify the correct partition of a hard drive in a way that is guaranteed not to change, use uuid
20:35<dpkg>A Universally Unique IDentifier (UUID) is used to reference disk partitions (among other things). See currently known partition UUIDs with 'blkid'. In /etc/fstab, use "UUID=dead-beef-0420-etc" as the partition name. UUIDs help to cope with device name changes such as hda->sda (<libata> transition) or changes in USB disk order discovery. <LVM> tools accept PV/VG/LV UUIDs as arguments, use {pv,vg,lv}display to acquire.

21:03<jmcnaught>AlexLikeRock: downgrading isn't really supported, especially doing a whole system instead of just a handful of packages. Your system is probably full of configuration files that cause problems for the older versions. It probably would have been less work to backup your files and do a fresh Wheezy install.
