03:23<hell>ok, i can do it by myself, check every package, which i suspect to have systemd dep, but it is pain.
03:24<babilen>hell: You shouldn't have problems with that on wheezy (and you should be asking in #debian-next if you are tracking testing or unstable, cf. /topic)
03:24<babilen>Either way, we require more information

03:25<hell>i asking how to get clear dist-upgrade plan, which new version of package will require new pkg/has obsolete/whatever
03:25<themill>irc doesn't deal well with hypotheticals.
03:26<hell>not about my specific problem, i can solve it in a finite time, but...
03:27<themill>the vague question will get a vague answer of "it depends". The specific question might get a specific answer. Please yourself.

03:29<hell>ok, as system administrator, before every system configuration upgrade, i want to see clear plan, what and why will be installed, removed, kept back, and so on. Can i?

03:36<themill>It depends.
03:36<hell>ok, aptitude -D -s do the trick
03:37<themill>Unless aptitude fails to work out how to do the upgrade at all.
03:38<hell>yeah, i will not use it without -D, but i can get some info, that i can't get with apt-get.

03:43<hell>babilen: it is a #debian-next question, but they don't like questions 'why @#$@#ing systemd will installed again and again" ;-)

03:47<babilen>hell: It is a horrible question
03:50<hell>yeah, but fighting with apt-get is a less pain, that living with systemd and fighting with everything, that it scoopes for itself
03:51<devil>slackware comes to mind :)
03:51*themill is still yet to understand these fights are about
03:51*devil gave up on that. systemd mostly just works.

03:56<hell>themill: easy, which of hundreds packages forces install of another pkg. Without guessing and running apt-cache show for every suspicious pkg
03:57<musca>,why policykit-1 systemd-sysv
03:57<weasel>systemd exhibits several very annoying bugs here. in particular, booting now takes several minutes more than previously.
03:57<judd>No dependency chain found between packages policykit-1 and systemd-sysv in wheezy/i386.
03:58<musca>hell: in the right channel the bot defaults to the right release ...
04:00<hell>musca: my question is not about systemd, actually. And policykit depends on libpam-systemd, which depends on systemd-sysv|systemd-shim, and i have systemd-shim installed.
04:03-!-dutchfish [] has joined #debian
04:03<babilen>weasel: Hmm, that is rather unusual and the only bug that comes to mind is, but that only affects users who don't use systemd as init (IIRC)

04:03<weasel>babilen: it's iscsi and cryptdisk related. there's a bug I filed.
04:03<babilen>Ah, okay.
04:04<babilen>Either way, all this belongs in #debian-next and not here.
04:04<weasel>systemd waits for ages for /dev/disk/by-path to appear
04:04<weasel>but it won't until there's network and iscsi has been started

15:58<Guest4696>I'll try that command in a moment. If it does not work I'll let you know. I forget. I think im using jessie, how do I check? I don't think anything else came with zfs but i used synaptic to install it.

20:00<cusco>not sure
20:01<manuel>I think I'm gonna let the installation run through and do a side one on a vm so I know the process
20:01<manuel>maybe I could do it blind on my desktop
20:02<cusco>you could ...
20:02<cusco>or just take out the hard drive do it on another pc
20:02<cusco>and put it back in

22:57<NightMonkey>Hi there. I'd like to rollback a host's package set to what it was before I issued an "apt-get install". What's the best way to do this?
22:57<abrotman>restore from backup?
22:58<NightMonkey>I could cobble together the package list from /var/log/apt/history.log, but I was hoping there's an 'automated' way.
22:58<NightMonkey>abrotman: It's not an "emergency", more that I no longer need the application I installed, so I want to remove it, and the deps it pulled in.
22:59<abrotman>NightMonkey: so just remove them ..
23:00<abrotman>NightMonkey: aptitude purge "application"
23:01<NightMonkey>abrotman: Oh, it's that easy?!? OK, I'll try it.

23:41<LtL>manuel: you need -r or -h
23:41<manuel>LtL, alright, didn't know about that. Any clue for the monitor shutting down?
23:42<manuel>It's been fine for a little more than I expected this reboot but it might be shutting off soon
23:42<LtL>manuel: you should find that in power management from your desktop
23:42<manuel>Do you think that would disable the internet connection?
23:43<LtL>manuel: strange that it doesn't wake-up though
23:43<manuel>LtL, I had the computer connected to a ts server (the monitors just went off) and the client dropped from the server
23:44<manuel>LtL, so it's not the monitor's that are only shutting off, it seems that the whole computer is going to sleep I guess
23:44<LtL>manuel: setting the monitor sleep time will not interrupt networking
23:44<manuel>LtL, but up until that point, I'm actively using it
23:44<manuel>LtL, so I feel like there shouldn't be a reason for it shutoff like that
23:44<LtL>manuel: that should be in power management also.
