02:17<tayjes16>Hi, I'm having a errors related to my Seagate USB hard drive that I'm pretty certain are related to systemd, but I'm not sure how to tell which part of systemd is failing (for a detailed explanation, see this thread: ... I'm wondering what other information I need to put in the bug report, other than what I've shared in the thread there, and whether I should file it with systemd or for something else.

06:41<oznt>maybe that is the source of the problem. let's check this ...
06:42<petn-randall>oznt: 'kill -9' tells the kernel to not schedule that process and wipe its existance from the main memory. That's not a clean way to close programs. A simple 'kill' will do it in much nicer way. It asks the program to exit, which allows it to clean up before quitting.

15:16<towo`>your system is using fbdev as driver since your x-stack is too old for haswell graphics
15:19<bonyhoax>What does it mean? That I must abandon wheezy for the next version?
15:19<towo`>that's what i have told you above

17:00<DrDamnit>bonyhoax, Graphics drivers are directly related to your kernel version. Debian stable is generally far behind the "current" versions. (It takes a while to make something stable). A quick google search shows me that Ubuntu users are having problems with this as well. Ubuntu 14.x is several minor revisions above Wheezy. So, your only option is to go with an OS that has a newer kernel. Jessie may be the answer, although I don't know if that will fix i
17:00<DrDamnit>t either. You'd need a kernel version that is VERY new.

23:01<jiggles>I'm trying to do a fresh install of jessie on my laptop (dist-upgrade just broke everything when I tried to switch from wheezy to jessie) ... I'm wondering what the best way to do this is. I downloaded the testing netinst CD, but I don't want to be running testing forever (I'd like it to track jessie after it becomes stable). Should I use this testing install disc and then just switch testing --> jessie in sources.list?
23:01<jiggles>or is there a better way to do it?
23:01<jmcnaught>jiggles: the recommended way is to upgrade from wheezy. the jessie installer is for testing the installer, not installing jessie. Also jessie is supported in #debian-next :)
23:02<centrx>jiggles, if your sources.list says jessie, that is what you will track, before release as testing, after release as stable
23:03-!-magyar [~magyar@] has quit [Quit: Riding the split]
23:05<jiggles>jmcnaught, ok, thanks ... the reason I was concerned about it is that when I tried to upgrade from wheezy on my current install, everything went haywire when I did apt-get upgrade
23:05<jiggles>...but yeah, I'll go ask the folks at debian-next!
23:06<jmcnaught>jiggles: that could be related to third party repos in your sources.list, but it could also simply be that Jessie isn't finished yet and there are lots of bugs. If you describe in detail on #debian-next there might be a solution
