00:40<twb>Should I use zswap instead of zram? Making a zram and then mkswaping on it seems silly

00:46-!-bolt [~r00t@] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:47<twb> hurts my brain. It seems to be saying zswap is only used if you have a real swap device -- and that it needs frontswap. But you can certainly compile a kernel with CONFIG_ZSWAP=n and CONFIG_FRONTCACHE=n...
00:48<twb>Yeah the first half of that is confirmed by arch's wiki. (I checked there because this kind of pointless ricing is their speciality.)

01:02<HP_>I could use live media
01:02<HP_>I think I can boot with older Linux image
01:02<jm_>why use that if you can simply select old kernel in boot menu and boot that

01:04<HP_>I mean, can't I fix the newer kernel?
01:05-!-dahveed311 [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
01:05<jm_>well the obvious answer would be "apparently not", but the more productive would be - it would make sense to figure out what's going on first (if I were you I'd remove "quiet" as a kernel parameter and try accessing it from a second system)
01:05<HP_>I installed it along with firmwares to make my WiFI and VGA work. Would they work with old kernel with newer firware from backports?
01:06<jm_>why do you need new kernel for your graphics card? it should normally work OK
01:06<HP_>No it didn't

07:44<kaernyk>for general questions join #debian-newmaint
07:44<jm_>!i forgot root's password
07:44<dpkg>For GRUB: 1) press 'e' to edit the kernel setting in the grub command line (add 'init=/bin/sh' to the end of it) 2) 'fsck' your root file system, 3) 'mount -o remount,rw /', 4) 'passwd root' 5) 'mount -o remount,ro /' 6) 'reboot -d -f' (exec /sbin/init should work); For LILO: 1) 'Linux init=/bin/sh' at the LILO boot prompt (hold Shift while booting), steps 2-6 are the same; For yaboot: 1) 'Linux init=/bin/sh' at yaboot prompt.
07:44<jm_>doctor: try the above
07:45<jm_>obviously with different commands probably

23:01<Airwave>I have the following entry showing up in auth.log quite regularly since rebooting: 'php: getaddrinfo*.gaih_getanswer: got type "46"'. Doing a search provides no useful results. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?
23:01<Airwave>It's not always php. I've also seen it with curl and http.
