00:14<sleser>how do i pastebin that screen
00:14<jmcnaught>dpkg: pastebinit
00:14<dpkg>pastebinit is a command-line tool to send data to a <pastebin>. NOTE: Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" users, you must "pastebinit -b" or configure pastebinit to use something other than To paste e.g. your sources.list do "aptitude install pastebinit; pastebinit /etc/apt/sources.list"; to paste the output of a program do e.g. "dmesg | pastebinit". See also <pastebinit config>, <nopaste>.

00:19<jmcnaught>sleser: you have to redirect the output of the command, so something like "dpkg -l | grep -i nvidia | pastebinit"
00:21<random>Marillion, works now btw, thanks :)
00:21<Marillion>random: you're welcome and gn8

00:44<sleser>am i miss spelling anything ?
00:45<jmcnaught>sleser: video not videa. are you trying to switch from nvidia proprietary to nouveau?
00:46<sleser>the same problem
00:46<nirab123>its not x-server its xserver
00:47<sleser>thats what i have
00:49-!-wd40s [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:49<sleser> i have it as xserver-xorg-video-nouveau same problem , does that means its already instaled ?
00:49<jmcnaught>sleser: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau should already be installed. if you've already removed the nvidia packages, you might also need to remove the blacklist they add in /etc/modprobe.d (which prevents the nouveau module from loading)
00:50<sleser>how do i do that ?
00:51<sleser>rm -f /etc/modeprobe.d ?
00:51<jmcnaught>sleser: look in /etc/modprobe.d/ for a file with nvidia in the name, check its contents to see if it mentions nouveau

00:57<jmcnaught>sleser: okay that sounds like the one (i don't have anything nvidia myself). check what that file does by reading it with "less" if you want. Instead of the deleting the file you could "mv" it somewhere else temporarily so you can restore it if things blow up (a good habit in general)

01:05<jmcnaught>sleser: thanks :) this file needs to be removed. Instead of using "rm" you could use "mv <source> <target>" to put the file somewhere else (your /home/<user>/ directory for example).
01:05<sleser>its nesesery to have ?
01:06<jmcnaught>sleser: also if you've made an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (or a file inside /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/) it will need to be removed too
01:06<jmcnaught>sleser: the reason i suggest moving files somewhere else instead of deleting them is so you can recover from mistakes
01:06<sleser>i see
01:07<sleser>mv filename /home/sleser/ ?
01:08<jmcnaught>sleser: sure. you could probably also use /tmp/ instead of /home/sleser/, or a directory inside /home/sleser/tmp/ for example
01:08<sleser>i forgot was it , name/home or home/name
01:09<sleser>thats what im confused i dont remember for sure how the factgory was set to

01:09<jmcnaught>sleser: when you're typing commands you <TAB> completion to help you type/remember
01:09<jmcnaught>heh.. i meant "use" not "you"
01:10<sleser>yeh its a habit
01:12<jmcnaught>sleser: basically when you install the nvidia proprietary drivers, you install some packages that put a file in /etc/modprobe.d/ that prevents the nouveau module from loading. You also manually create an xorg.conf file. When you switch back you just need to reverse these things. So you remove the package, remove the blacklist, remove the xorg.conf file.
01:12<sleser>trying to moove it to mv file name /home/sleser/temp/ says no sutch file or directory

01:15<jmcnaught>sleser: it would be in /etc/X11, but it's also possible you created a file in the directory /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ instead
01:16<sleser>moove that in to the dir i created rite
01:16<jmcnaught>sleser: yeah, that way it's easy to restore things if what you're doing just makes things worse
01:17<sleser>so i should moove xorg.conf.d to temp ? or wipe
01:17<sleser>i didnt quaet understand you
01:18-!-chitchat [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
01:19<sleser>pastebin you the directory ?
01:19<jmcnaught>sleser: there are two ways you might have set things up when you installed the nvidia drivers. One is to create/edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, the other is to create a file like /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/nvidia<something>.conf.
01:20<sleser>i installed it year ago dont remember .
01:20<jmcnaught>sleser: have you made any other changes to xorg.conf, does that file exist at all? How many files are in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/? If it's just one, pastebin that file
01:20<sleser>inside xorg 11 there is few files
01:21<jmcnaught>inside where?
01:21<sleser>inside x11
01:21<sleser>only one that astates xorg.conf.d in the x11 dir
01:21<jmcnaught>the files we are interested in are /etc/X11/xorg.conf or any files in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
01:22<sleser>oh sorry it was a directory too
01:22<sleser>so im in the xorg.conf.d there only one file says 20-nvidia.conf
01:23<jmcnaught>sleser: move that file to your temp directory (read the file with less if you want to see what it says first)
01:25<jmcnaught>sleser: yes, move that file out of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory. Also it's "" not "" :)

01:28<sleser>nvidia glx
01:28<jmcnaught>sleser: can you do "dpkg -l | grep nvidia | pastebinit" ?
01:32<jmcnaught>sleser: you should be able to remove all of the packages in that list, but it looks like the important ones (nvidia-driver and nvidia-kernel-dkms) are already gone

01:58<jmcnaught>sleser: the big thing to remember from today is instead of deleting configuration files it's better to move them to a temp directory so you can easily reverse the changes
01:58<sleser>you mean like to pute t hem back in to their place or wh at do you mean by reversing
02:00<jmcnaught>sleser: yeah, if you to reverse a change you just copy the file from the temp directory back to where it was before. But if the file's been deleted, it's a lot harder to restore.

02:02<sleser>i was using that nvidia driver for year or so
02:02<sleser>i didnt do anything to damige it , its just damiged after a new updates
02:03<sleser>not sure how posible is that but he said that . it was a known bug on that driver or something
02:03<jmcnaught>sleser: i don't know, i don't use any nvidia cards. part of the problem with those drivers is they're closed source so Debian can't fix things as easily as it can with the open source nouveau driver

08:56<mdik>utente: you want to the devices configured by a dhcp or deliver dhcp?
08:56<utente>mdik, eth1 and dh2 must give (deliver) dhcp service to other PCs

08:58<mdik>utente: i don't know about dhcpd specifically, but if you can't set it up in one config file, you usually create 2 config files, define the device or address they should listen on and then start 2 instances of dhcpd where you give the specific config files as command line parameteres

11:44<urqan>yeah, that was faster.... not wanting to start os wars.... iptables -L was much faster on fedora and I'm noticing a lot of other things that are taking longer than normal to respond. (I'm new to debian).
11:44<peter1138>Then you have a DNS lookup issue.
11:45<random>iptables works better with ip addresses, ie you don't have to wait for a lookup, what is slower just out of curiosity?
11:45<peter1138>If fedora installs nscd by default, maybe that affects it. Personally I can live with -n.
11:45<urqan>I'm using ip adresses with one exception..... localhost
11:46<peter1138>urqan, I don't think not recommending breaking your system by putting a foreign kernel on it counts as OS wars :p

22:45<JesseW>(duplicated from freenode channel, due to lack of response there, apologies in advance) Trying to debug IMAP problems with the version of evolution in Debian wheezy (3.4.4). I've turned on debug messages (for imapx) (as suggested here: ), but *none* are produced... is this a problem others are familiar with? Might it be related to POODLE?
