00:38<agus>Me too
00:39<poi_dog>I'm not sure if it is off-topic.
00:39<poi_dog>I use Debian Jessie.

00:41<poi_dog>Yura recently posted a newer version.
00:41<poi_dog>of Domination. It's a .jar file.
00:42<poi_dog>I install using the command java -jar Domination_install_1.1.1.6.jar

00:54<somiaj>poi_dog: what java version are you using? Check your logs to see if java was updated recentally
00:55<somiaj>either that or check if your xorg video drivers were updated or something changed there.
00:56<poi_dog>ok thanks
00:56<poi_dog>let me get the java version for you ...
00:58<somiaj>poi_dog: what kernel do you use?
00:58<somiaj>poi_dog: what video drivers?
00:58<poi_dog>hmm. slow at figuring that out. hold on.
00:58<poi_dog>both should be in synaptic right?
00:59<somiaj>no problem, uname -a for kernel version. video drivers you can see what is actually loaded in /var/log/Xorg.0.log

00:59<poi_dog>ok, I'll look at that :)
00:59<somiaj>poi_dog: the kernel will be linux-image-something, the video drivers are not as easy and you should look at the Xorg.0.log file

01:03<poi_dog>I seem to have radeon
01:04<poi_dog>but I'm not sure which line is pertinent
01:04<somiaj>and you have the firmware-linux-nonfree installed?
01:04<somiaj>poi_dog: you can paste the whole output at
01:04<poi_dog>Yes, I believe so re nonfree
01:05<poi_dog>of Xorg.0.log?
01:05<somiaj>poi_dog: but I don't see anything out of place. What you need to do next is after the game crashes (or run the game from a terminal) see if you get any error messages. You can check dmesg or the xorg log (sometimes ~/.xsession-errors) for errors

01:07<andrei>Hi. I installed mate-desktop-environment-core and mate-terminal is automatically installed as an dependency.
01:07<andrei>But later when I apt-get purge mate-desktop-environment-core, mate-terminal didn't want to be automatically removed.
01:07<andrei>I wonder what package is depending on mate-terminal to prevent it from automatically removal?
01:07<andrei>The problem is the same with all other mate components.
01:07-!-andrei was kicked from #debian by debhelper [flood. Please use instead.]
01:08<somiaj>poi_dog: to get 3d acceleration from the radeon driver you will need that package.
01:09<poi_dog>I just checked into the page to be sure I have that option.

04:23<andrei>Hi. I have a question regarding apt-get autoremove.
04:23<andrei>'man apt-get' says autoremoveable packages are 'automatically installed ... and now no longer needed'
04:24<andrei>So the question is, what is the definition of 'needed'? Doed it MERELY means 'no manually installed packages depending on them'?

06:52<Remoboth>YUMI, Unetbootin and LiveUSB always worked on Ubuntu...
06:53<Remoboth>I downloaded them and tried to use them on Debian.
06:53<Remoboth>None of them work.

06:54<supaman>Remoboth: when you say they dont work, do they fail while making the usb bootable or do they finish and then you cant boot from the USB?
06:54<guruprasad>and what distro are you goin to make as bootable
06:54<Remoboth>Linux MInt.
06:54<Remoboth>YUMI gives me a [43] FORBIDDEN error.
06:54<piper>dd if=nameofiso.iso of=/dev/sxx bs=4M; sync should work
06:54<Remoboth>Unetbootin works but then won't boot.
06:54<Remoboth>LiveUSB just freezes.
06:55<Remoboth>piper - I will try that.
06:55<Remoboth>GIve me asec.
06:55<themill>(or just use cp)
06:55<Remoboth>DO I have to CD into the folder?
06:55<Remoboth>THat the .iso is in?
06:56<guruprasad>why dont you try universal usb installer ?
06:56<Remoboth>Because it only works for WIndows.
06:56<piper>never tried anything with ubuntu though, either cd to the folder or put the iso in home
06:56<supaman>Remoboth: you dont have to no, you can give the full path to the iso instead as the if=/full/path/to/iso
06:57<Remoboth>supaman - Thank you.
06:58<guruprasad>USB startup disk creator ?
06:58<guruprasad>i guess that should work
06:58<guruprasad>and thats pre installed in debain

13:27<somiaj>just trying to give useful advise. gpu passthough seems to be a dark art (joking). But seems people experienced with it are fairly rare and might take a lot of debuging on your end.
13:27<shibboleth>how would you suggest that I phrase the question, though?
13:27<dpkg>Please do not ask if anyone can help you, knows 'something' or uses 'some_program'. Instead, ask your real question. (If the real question _was_ "does anyone use 'some_program'?" ask me about <popcon> instead.) See <ask> <ask to ask> <polls> <search> <sicco> <smart questions>.
13:28<somiaj>in general the answer is going to be 'yes' or 'no' and isn't what you want. Mabey state what it is you are doing, what you have done, or what has failed.
13:28<somiaj>for example you could say I'm trying to give gpu passthough for <insert graphics card> and it isn't working and I get this <error>

Is using /etc/initramfs-tools/modules still the way this? See there is /etc/modules and can even drop a line as a kernel cmd in grub.
13:46<somiaj>those files are different. One is the list of modules to build into the initrd image which is very early in the boot process. the other is a list of modules to load at the end of the boot process
13:46<somiaj>(well maybe not end, but later on during the boot process)
13:46<yunuz>hi i'm newbie at debian setup and i cant install with webinstaller. Because i'm living in internet restricted place. For using the internet we have to login with web browser. So how can i install it?
13:46<somiaj>though including a module in initrd won't force it to be loaded, it just makes it avaiable if needed
13:47<somiaj>yunuz: I would download a full cd/dvd image that contains a desktop/webbrowser on it. This will allow you to do an offline install. And then once you have everything installed you can configure it for the internet using the authentication method available to you.

13:49<somiaj>yunuz: corect, but you may need non-free firmware for your network card which isn't in tha timage

19:00<somiaj>BEEPultratonicsupernerd: usually this is considered bad, but each kernel version (from backports) is its own package so installing the 4.2 kernel will not remove your 4.1 kernel and you can still use it
19:00-!-totau2 [] has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
19:00<somiaj>you could rmove the kernel meta package, but realize that then your kernel from backports will no ever be upgraded and it will contain any secuirty hole in tha tkernel.

19:01<BEEPultratonicsupernerd>somiaj, I know it is really bad. Been thinking about the best way to do this.
19:02<poi_dog>Whatis OVMF?
19:02<somiaj>BEEPultratonicsupernerd: as I said remove the meta package that is pulling in the newer kernel. you could pin it. You could let the newer kernel install and just boot the older kernel and do nothing from teh apt end.
19:03<somiaj>poi_dog: error messages are nice to look up in google. That is how I figured out wha tthey mean
19:03<somiaj>BEEPultratonicsupernerd: since it is actually changing the kernel from 4.1 to 4.2, upgrading isn't removing the old kernel (though maybe autoremove would get rid of it, toggle the autoflag on tha tkernel)
19:05<poi_dog>Yeah, I have been doing that. But it leaves me mystified because mutter seems to have some current bugs
19:05<BEEPultratonicsupernerd>somiaj, The kernel can be there as long as it is not booted. A long time ago I would use two repos stable and testing and use apt-get -t when I wanted "fancy" stuff..but it is not a good idea imho to do that.
