01:39<twb>themill: FTR, the overlay vs. overlayfs in /etc/initramfs-tools was my fault, because I changed "apt-get install live-boot -t stretch" to "apt-get install live-boot/stretch", and it picked live-boot-initramfs-tools/jessie because live-boot's inter-package deps are looser than I expected

01:40<foffa>how to tell if i have missing file ?
01:40<twb>foffa: as in, a package installed it, then someone deleted it?
01:41<foffa>sorry im new here how to do that
01:41<dpkg>[debsums] a utility that will check a package's files against their checksums. The "-a" argument will instruct it to also check configuration files: "aptitude install debsums; debsums -a -s". Most packages come with md5sums included in the package; if apt's package cache is clean, then generate missing sums with "aptitude reinstall `debsums -l`". Ask me about <md5sums>.
01:42<twb>foffa: that's for detecting modifications; you might need to tweak the options to report deletions, I'm not sure.
01:42<foffa>ok another question > for some reason my application is deleted with it self WHY
01:42<twb>foffa: I don't understand
01:42-!-avs_ [] has joined #debian
01:43<twb>If the package was uninstalled normally, check /var/log/apt* and /var/log/dpkg*
01:43<foffa>some application that come with gnome is missing
01:43<foffa>map,tweak-tool, ect
01:44<twb>foffa: they were installed before?
01:45<foffa>twb, yes
01:45<twb>foffa: then there will be a log. Check the log.

Details are in the Installation Guide, see and ask me about <install debian> for hybrid CD/DVD images. Use to write images from Windows. For BIOSes not capable of USB boot, ask me about <plop>.
