01:50<somiaj>medicalwei: anything in paticular you are worried about in just doing a reboot (I assume you want to minimize down time and not mess up anyone using the mirror)
01:51<somiaj>medicalwei: is this mirror part of say rotation or some other more offical mirror?
01:51<medicalwei>somiaj, yes, official.
01:51<medicalwei>, in particular.
01:52<medicalwei>but seems not in rotation

01:53<somiaj>medicalwei: I'm just a hobbiest, but I think rebooting would be fine. If you really want to ensure 100% uptime you may need a backup / with some sort of redirection of the service, but this is out of my experience.

03:33<twb>Argh, xdm explicitly calls creat 0666 on its logfile

03:33<twb>"xdm error (pid 306): Cannot open errorLogFile /proc/self/fd/2: No such device or address"
03:33<twb>nano: are you making debian packages? Try #debian-mentors
03:34<twb>nano: the "use" might be a typo of "usr" in debian/foo.install.
03:34-!-mith_ [~mith@] has joined #debian
03:34<twb>nano: debian/tmp is the default DESTDIR passed by dh_auto_install to upstream makefile for source packages with >1 binary package.
03:34<nano>twb: af found it, the .install of that module is actually a perl script.
03:35-!-NomadJim_ [~NomadJim@] has joined #debian
03:35<twb>nano: .install has to be a static file; it can't be a script

03:35<nano>use Config;

03:36<twb>nano: I dunot understand how that could possibly work
03:36<twb>Maybe there is some rarely-used feature where if it's executable, it doesn't have to be declarative
03:37<nano>True, it's marked as executable.
03:37-!-NomadJim__ [~NomadJim@] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
03:38<nano>Trynig to get this package to build snapshots of xmms2 over at opensuse build service so probably need some hack there as that file is generated via their weird stuff which probably will not keep execution bits.
03:38<twb>but wait! AHAHAHA! If it pass the EMPTY STRING as the logfile, it seems to use stdout
03:39<twb>I win I win I win
03:39<nano>twb: thanks for the hint btw.

07:11<kblin>hi folks
07:11<kblin>this might be a bit of a silly question, but if I'm setting up a Bind9 zone file for my zone, I see that it's customary to use name server names or the like
07:13<kblin>but how does that work conceptually? if I'm trying to look up information for, and the root DNS tells me to talk to, how would I know who is?
07:13<jm_>you use IP-s in resolv.conf

22:01<wegg>I have set up a new workstation with Debian Testing and it is working great but then I tried to mount my USB drives. . . and it works. But I can't write to the drive.
22:01<wegg>I can read but not save any files.
22:02<wegg>What am I doing wrong?
22:02<teatime>did it mount rw or ro? you can see in the output of `mount`
22:02<teatime>if it's ntfs, the default may still be to mount ro
22:02<wegg>I did it through thunar
22:02<wegg>let me un mount them
22:02<jmcnaught>wegg: support for testing is in #debian-next as per the topic
22:02<wegg>oh sheesh I thought I was there.
