05:54<PaulePanter>Hi. Using Debian 8.3 (jessie) I am having trouble installing the Epson printer driver package. (My parents unfortunately bought (and therefore) supported Epson.)
05:55<PaulePanter>So despite having the package *lsb* installed in version 4.1 and the package depending on >= 3.2, it errors out.
05:56<PaulePanter>dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of epson-inkjet-printer-escpr: epson-inkjet-printer-escpr depends on lsb (>= 3.2).
05:56<dpkg>paulepanter: that's not the complete error. Please pastebin the command you gave and the entire output. Ask me about <pastebin> <bat> <localised errors>.
05:58<zumbi>PaulePanter: I am a bit confused.. why dont you install printer-driver-escpr ?
05:58<PaulePanter>Sorry, I think, I know the problem. I downloaded the 32bit package.
05:58<PaulePanter>… and my parents have a 64-bit user space.
05:59<zumbi>ok, that'd make sense.. also you could use APT
05:59<PaulePanter>zumbi: Doesn’t `LANG=C sudo dpkg -i epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.6.4-1lsb3.2_i386.deb` install the package?
05:59<zumbi>PaulePanter: yes, but epson-inkjet-printer-escpr is a Debian source package, not binary
05:59<PaulePanter>zumbi: Unfortunately, Epson has bad distribution support, in the sense that they do not include their drivers in the package archives.
06:00<PaulePanter>zumbi: Sorry, I don’t understand.
06:00<PaulePanter>zumbi: How is that a source package?
06:00-!-KapiteinKoffie [] has quit []
06:00-!-jova2 [~jova2@] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
06:00<zumbi>that builds the following binary package (to be installed)
06:01<PaulePanter>`apt search epson` did not show anything, when I search for packages in the Debian archive.
06:01<zumbi>PaulePanter: using APT takes care of resolving dependencies
06:02<zumbi>PaulePanter: what happens if you `sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get install printer-driver-escpr`
06:02<grove>PaulePanter: If you're on i386 (or have added i386 as an architecture, but I have no idea how that works for drivers). One of the points of apt is that you only need to know the package name, it figures version and architecture
06:02<PaulePanter>zumbi: `apt` is a new CLI to APT and also provides a search option.

06:05<PaulePanter>zumbi: Indeed. Thank you. The package does not have *epson* in their name.
06:05<PaulePanter>zumbi: Thank you very much.
06:05<zumbi>no, but in its description
06:06<PaulePanter>Yeah. But then *apt search* did not find it and the Web interface neither.
06:06<PaulePanter>zumbi: Anyway, thanks a lot!

10:35<scootergrisen>It comes when i try to run the master build... but only if the stable version is installed with apt-get
10:36<scootergrisen>If the 0.7.1 from apt-get is not installed it works
10:36<chris_se>but running the stable version itself works if it's installed?
10:36<chris_se>so to me this seems to be a case that the software just doesn't like to be installed in multiple versions...
10:37<chris_se>there could probably be some workaround, but you'd better ask the developers of that specific software
10:37<scootergrisen>But if i only run "./ build" it should not install anything right
10:39<scootergrisen>Does it change anything outside the folder?

15:52<jmcnaught>k01dun: with systemd you want to use targets which are sort of like runlevels. "systemctl set-default" would boot into text mode, "systemctl set-default" for GUI again. There's also a get-default

17:56<chris_se>which is fine for creating the target itself (because 0 means: choose next free id)
17:56<chris_se>but it's not fine for adding the LUN (because 0 isn't allowed there, you'd have to determine which ID was chosen automatically when creating the target - which at least to me appears to be non-trivial)

18:54<chris_se>adrian15, it appears to be something that's re-opened on every connection attempt, if I read the source code correctly
18:55<chris_se>so yes, you probably don't need to restart the service when changing the file
18:55<adrian15>chris_se: Great! Thank you for taking a look at it. I did not find a manpage for that file.
18:55<chris_se>anyway, it's late here, good night

19:36<lancelot>ill try that, thanks
19:36<adrian15>I used that script myself for an special tv which offered a VGA connection but somehow it was not auto detected so... somehow you had to force the computer to send the signal through the VGA port even if nothing was detected.

20:19<phylophyl>thanks for the reply sney, iceweasel package on Sid says
20:19<phylophyl>"This is a transitional package, it can be safely removed."
20:20<sney>'apt-get autoremove' will probably get rid of it as well. for future notice, sid support is in #debian-next

20:23<sney>iceweasel was only a rebrand anyway. firefox upgrades iceweasel now that debian is allowed to distribute it with the firefox name and log o
20:23<phylophyl>it you install as well Firefox, you have two firefox apps in sid
20:23<phylophyl>ok sney
20:24<javier>anyone uses muon here?
20:24<javier>I know is from kde but debian-kde channel seems dead. Anyone answers
20:24<phylophyl>transition is not a problem though, the new package firefox-esr integrates my iceweasel config
20:26*amiconn likes that there are now two separate packages "firefox" and "firefox-esr"
20:27<amiconn>Much clearer path than before. With iceweasel it used to be necessary to switch back & forth between sid and experimental in order to have an up to date but not beta browser
20:27<amiconn>Btw, will the same transition happen for icedove -> thunderbird as well?
20:28<jmcnaught>amiconn: people might know better in #debian-next, this channel is for jessie/stable support
