05:54<oirasor>But now I want to share a certain folder of www-data to userBob, but when I try to mount the client says: "mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting ip-server/folder"

10:43<MichaelMint>I'm currently running LinuxMintDebianEdition and 8.2 Jessie. I mostly use for R, LaTeX editing, Python and scientific work. Is there any major advantage to going to debian testing over stable?
10:43<sney>mint is not relevant in #debian
10:43<MichaelMint>Ignore that part then.
10:44<duclicsic>there are advantages and disadvantages. testing will have more recent versions of packages, but is last to receive security updates
10:44-!-Jane-PC [] has joined #debian
10:44<duclicsic>i happily run testing on my desktop machines, but i run stable on production servers
10:44<sney>but in the general case, testing is a test platform for the next debian stable release, sometimes it's buggy and unreliable. you get newer versions of some software in testing, but basically no focus on stability until after the freeze
10:45<sney>testing users have to be at least somewhat comfortable tinkering with apt if they want to make sure their desktop doesn't disappear in a transition etc

15:30<somiaj>R4F_Debian: no, I'm just stating many streaming radio sites work over a webbrowser, and they will use webbrowser tools
15:30<somiaj>R4F_Debian: so it depends on the site/radio station if you will use html5, flash, or some other plugin (quicktime and realaudio use to be popular, but I don't think are used that much anymore as examples)
15:30<R4F_Debian>oh, I see somiaj. Well, thanks anyway for your attention and explanantions !
15:31<somiaj>R4F_Debian: so you shoudln't have to do anything if it is html5, just use firefox or chromium and go to the website. I would first do research and figure out what raido stations offer internet streaming.

19:49<ProximaCentaure>Hi everyone. I just installed Debian "Testing" and I want to install the VPN client "Bitmask" : on their website, there is a list of command for Debian Testing, but when I try to install it, there is dependencies that could not be installed, so I wanted to know if it's possible to use the "Debian Stable" sources.list to install it ? Thanks :)

19:51<sney>ProximaCentaure: testing is a moving target, so when 3rd parties make instructions for it, they are outdated pretty quickly.
19:52<sney>ProximaCentaure: depending on the age of that document, it might have been written for debian testing when it was still what would become the debian 8 stable release... you can check to find out what versions of packages are available in different debian versions, but ultimately it's the 3rd party repo's responsibility to support their own software

22:46<MrMe>Again, weird why not selecting no desktop environment would do this
22:46<sney>the only thing I can think of, besides an intermittent hardware problem, is that it's setting a framebuffer mode that your machine can't handle
22:47<MrMe>It's a rather new laptop
22:47<MrMe>Ati graphics
22:47<MrMe>Never had this issue with a desktop environment installed
22:48<sney>yeah, my hypothesis is that when X re-probes your graphics it finds a working mode, so you just get a black screen in between initrd and the kde login
22:49<sney>you could try booting with nomodeset. this will stop X from working any time you use it on boot, but if I'm right about the issue it'll give you a command line interface from which to use apt
22:50<MrMe>I wanted to install debian without an desktop environment
