04:55<attilette>Hello !
04:55<attilette>I have a simple question, I didn't find any answer..
04:55<attilette>Is it possible to create an .iso installer of an already running and configured debian system ?
04:55<attilette>(automated installer)
04:55<attilette>I found that "kickstart" could but it not seems to be supported on Debian
04:55<attilette>Am I right ? :/
04:56-!-AzaToth [] has joined #debian
04:56<jm_>automated installer on debian is achieved with preseeding
04:56<jm_>also look at stuff like FAI
04:56<dpkg>Fully Automatic Installation (FAI) is an automated tool to install or deploy Debian (and other distributions) on a bunch of different hosts or a cluster. It is more flexible than tools like <kickstart> (Red Hat), autoyast and alice (SuSE) or jumpstart (Oracle Solaris). FAI can also be used for configuration management of a running system. #fai on
04:57<attilette>thanks jm_ for pressed I'm looking at this
04:57-!-marblz [] has joined #debian
04:57<attilette>jm_, do you think that FAI as the purpose of creating the .ISO ? if pressed does this ?
04:57<attilette>i'm confused
04:58-!-mode/#debian [+l 750] by debhelper
04:59<attilette>I don't want to deploy my debian system but rather create an .iso setup that would re-create exactly the same system with its packages and conf
04:59<jm_>attilette: no, to create your own ISO there's jigdo, see
05:00<marblz>Running Jessie and have a gtx 970. Won't boot without setting in grub nomodeset. I installed the nvidia drivers which made my second monitor show up which is good. It still won't boot without nomodeset. I've seen that you can permanently set grub to do nomodeset but that it's probably not the best way to handle the problem?
05:00<jm_>there's no such tool that I am aware off
05:00<jm_>hmm why would you need "nomodeset' with nvidia driver
05:01<attilette>jm_, ok so I have to configure it manually with pressed and DebianInstaller.. Hoped there was somthing like KickStart
05:01<attilette>jm_, thanks for your help bye the way !
05:02<marblz>jm_ When I try to boot I get a black screen without it(it was doing this before I installed the drivers as well). Since I installed the drivers my second monitor shows up so I think it worked right?
05:02<jm_>attilette: yeah the only missing part is to create the files for you, after that the tools are there and no problem
05:02<jm_>marblz: how did you install the nvidia driver?
05:03<marblz>jm_ I followed these instructions and then restarted
05:04<jm_>marblz: and it loads nvidia module, not nouveau?

05:35<cat7>I have an old G71 Nvidia card. When I used nouveau I always got a high res crisp console/tty. Recently changed to proprietary legacy NVIDIA driver and console res became super low. ran 'vbeinfo' in grub and it lists max res 1280x1024. 'hwinfo --framebuffer' also lists 1280x1024 as max. I run Xorg in 2560x1440. Is it the case that nouveau can run a higher res console/tty than proprietary driver can or what is happening?
05:36<cat7>console used to be as crisp and highres as Xorg
05:36<jamesmc>The proprietary driver doesn't have support for changing mode in the console

05:40<jamesmc>Otherwise I haven't been able to force it with kernel parameters
05:41<cat7>jm_: I'm not very knowledgeable of GRUB, but to see what modes are available I pass vga=ask right?

08:08<marblz>jm_: I have used ssh before, but not set up my own connections
08:09<jm_>marblz: just install openssh-server on debian and ssh client elsewhere then connect to it, I suggest you use debian's IP ('/sbin/ifconfig' will show it) - to start with look at 'dmesg' output and X logs

11:58<petn-randall>RequiemAeternam: I've gotta go, but you probably have to find the tool/daemon that is running on your system and doing those automatic updates. It's not part of Debian though, it's something 3rd party you've installed.

21:24<dward>I'm building a debian package and I want to pin a specific version of a dependency so I'm using (= 1.11.2-0~xenial) in my control file.
21:25<dward>when I apt-get install my package, i'm getting the error "Depends: ... (= 1.11.2-0~xenial) but 1.12.0-0~xenial is to be installed"
21:26<dward>even though apt-cache madison and apt-cache seem to show that the package and version I'm looking for exists
21:26<dward>*apt-cache show
21:26<dward>any tips?

22:11<dpkg>Ubuntu is based on Debian, but it is not Debian. Only Debian is supported on #debian. Use #ubuntu on instead. Even if the channel happens to be less helpful, support for distributions other than Debian is offtopic on #debian. See also <based on debian> and <ubuntuirc>.
