04:24<Bastien1>Hello. Is there a way to choose the default originating IPv6 address ? I have multiple prefixes, from multiple ISP, but I'd like to favor one over the others
04:24-!-txgvnn [~Icedove@] has joined #debian

04:26-!-mith_ [] has joined #debian
04:28<TotallyNotKim>Bastien1: Are they all connected to individual interfaces?
04:28-!-ianma [~ianma@] has joined #debian
04:29<Bastien1>no, all prefixes come from the same interface, connected on the router
04:30<MarkedOne>jipege: Thank you. Exactly what i was looking for. :)
04:31<duclicsic>Bastien1: you can specify the source address to be used on a per-route basis. just modify or add/replace your default route but include the "src" parameter. 'man ip-route'
04:33<jipege>MarkedOne: you're welcome
04:33<MarkedOne>Another question. Should I install recommended package "irqbalance"? I have Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B950 @ 2.10GHz.

04:39<MarkedOne>TotallyNotKim: I know. But why is it not installed by default? :D
04:41<petn-randall>MarkedOne: Recommended packages are installed by default, and the linux kernel package recommends irqbalance.
04:41<petn-randall>MarkedOne: Unless you ran aptitude with -R or apt-get with --no-install-recommends, that should have been installed automagically.
04:42-!-drope [~user@] has joined #debian
04:42<MarkedOne>petn-randall: I am using "aptitude upgrade". But nvm, that is not a problem. :)

04:43<petn-randall>MarkedOne: Then it should come by default. The reason its only recommended and not depended upon, is that the kernel (even MP machines) runs fine without it.

06:33<stevenm__>anyone here a user of pure-ftpd? would you say setting -S 21 (aka --bind 21) is pointless? i mean it'll be listening on port 21 by default? (or does -S retrict it to just 21? could it listen on other ports?)
06:35<duclicsic>unless you intend for it to listen on a specific IP:PORT then using -S is indeed pointless
06:36<duclicsic>it probably binds to by default
06:36<duclicsic>and of course it can and indeed will listen on other ports

06:48<duclicsic>stevenm__: to do it any other way would be absurd
06:48<grawity>given that port 21 is the default IANA-assigned port for FTP, why would it be configured otherwise
06:48<duclicsic>it's an ftp daemon
06:48<@themill>and in the time you've argued, you could have tested this
06:48<duclicsic>ftp default control session port is tcp/21
06:49-!-panina [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
06:50<duclicsic>the -S argument in pure-ftpd is there mostly to change the IP address it binds to, but it does of course give the option to run on a port other than the default. network services like ftp generally don't listen on multiple ports unless you specifically configure them to do so,.
06:50-!-txgvnn [~Icedove@] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]

11:00<mais>hello, I am trying to make my debian 8.5 standard machine autologin to my account when it starts. I followed this guide ( and everything worked nicely. I noticed (Edit 2, of the original post) that if I want an upgrade-proof solution I should implement auto-login differently. So I changed the file (/etc/systemd/system/ back to its original state and tried th
11:00<mais>e second (Edit2) solution. (Note: folder /etc/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service.d didnt exist, so I created it). When I rebooted I got a black screen that I could do nothing. So I booted from a live usb and changed the file ( /etc/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service.d/override.conf) commenting out the first ExecStart line. Now I get this error when I boot -> "systemd[1]: getty@tty1.service has more than one ExecStart setting, which is only allowed
11:00<mais>for Type=oneshot services. Refusing". Any ideas? (Sorry for the long message)

18:50<blumenkranz>Hello. I am having some trouble getting an AMDGPU card to work on Testing or Sid releases. Basically, once it reaches a certain point, an info message is thrown, which says something along the lines of "fb: changing to amdgpudrmfb from simple", and stays there, probably because the screen freezes. Disabling amdgpu module or using nomodeset allows me to boot into a shell like usual, but I would know how to fix it correctly. C
18:50<blumenkranz>For the record, Ubuntu 16.04.1 Live CD doesn't seem to suffer this problem.

19:01<blumenkranz>blast007: Yeah, installing nonfree firmware solved it. A shame because I wanted this install to be completely free, but better this than not being able to use my computer at all
19:02<blumenkranz>In fact, I got this card because I expected it to be usable with the free driver alone, but oh well
19:02<blast007>blumenkranz: you could be mire selective and just have firmware-amd-graphics installed
19:02<blast007>the free driver still needs firmware for newish cards
19:03<blumenkranz>Do you know if this situation will be likely to change in the future?

19:04<blast007>doubtful. you'd have firmware somehwere, burned into the ROM on the device or loaded from a file by the driver.

21:14<orenwf>i followed the instructions on the debian install guide

21:16<orenwf>i am learning to use debian from scratch and I am trying to figure out how to get a working display driver that allows me to enjoy my nvidia 970 card near its full capability

21:33<dpkg>Knoppix is _not_ Debian. Seek Knoppix help in freenode's #knoppix. Knoppix is a live CD distribution which is <based on Debian>, useful as a rescue CD, to test hardware, and for situations where you have access to a computer but it isn't Debian. unofficial: <Debian-live> is the Debian equivalent for publishing live systems.

21:43<sanctini>Hi, I've been having an issue with hibernate in a Debian-based OS lately. To see if the problem was just with the Debian-based OS and not Debian itself, I switched out the kernels with an amd64 image from the testing repo, my Debian-based OS uses 4.6. Anyway, I tried to hibernate again, but it still didn't work. Suggestions?
21:44<sney>sanctini: go to your debian-based os's support channel

23:12<@themill>And you're in luck in that both have standard drivers... The live logging will probably now be via /dev/ttyUSB0 (or similar). Try opening that device, you never know
23:13<Wind>How do i do that ?
23:13<Wind>I can google :)
23:13<@themill>putty is probably the simplest approach -- you may well need to fiddle around with baud rates, parity and all the rest of the serial nightmare. And then you're going to have to hope that it just logs ASCII numbers on its own, since you don't have any protocol information.
23:14-!-yuastnav [] has joined #debian
23:14<@themill>If that doesn't work straight up, then you're going to be sniffing the serial connection using their software and reverse engineering the protocol. "fun" to be bad
