02:59<mexug>heya. a package from testing/unstable has pulled a lot of new dependencies from testing/unstable. how can i display which package is responsible for what version jump in other installed packages? kind of an aptitude why for upgrades
03:00<mexug>i am aware that this should not happen with well maintained pinnings :)
03:00-!-oox2 [~00X2@] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
03:06<babilen>That's why you shouldn't mix stable with testing/unstable as it is probably smoother to just track testing directly (with unstable thrown in). I'm not aware of a way to get the information you are after once you completed the upgrade. aptitude has a "--show-why" option that might come in handy during upgrades though

03:23<mexug>babilen: of course i didn't complete the upgrade. --show-why works great, thank you! mixing in testing/unstable isn't that bad. it depends how you install it. apt-get install -t is a bad idea because it pulls in dependencies from outside the default release. apt-get install $package/testing doesn't
03:23-!-hele__ [] has joined #debian
03:26<musca>-t temporarily sets the default release
03:27<mexug>orly.. even more suprising to see a lot of people using this
03:27<babilen>mexug: I'd still much rather just track a testing/unstable mix, but YMMV

03:29<musca>the apt_preferences manpage is very clear about it:

03:50<turol>i rebuilt testing nvidia-driver (367.44) packages on stable and installed them
03:50<turol>the only complaint from dpkg is: "nvidia-kernel-source depends on make:any"
03:51<turol>make is installed, how do i tell dpkg to stfu and configure tha package anyway?
03:52<musca>367.44 is experimental, not testing
03:52-!-LotharKAtt [~lelouch@] has joined #debian
03:52<turol>yeah, experimental
03:53<turol>i have a gtx 1060 so i need some black magic to get a driver that supports it
03:53<musca>turol: yes, i see
03:53<turol>at least the testing vulkan packages installed cleanly
03:55<turol>i could just hack debian/control and replace "make:any" with "make" and rebuild, do you think that would work?
03:55<danielsh>I think so yes

09:03<sveinse>danielsh: So the bigger picture is: a) upload a .dsc and its files, b) unpacked with dpkg-source, c) install its build deps, d) run dpkg-buildpackage to build it. So there is no apt-repo to use in this context (and I don't want to bother setting one up). Then I'll rather make a python script which parses debian/control myself and fetch the list, but surely someone must have done this before

09:10<user7>hi, i am getting "dm-raid45 not found in modules.dep" after booting a new debian installation. can someone help me?
09:11<sveinse>danielsh: yeah ok, apt interacts with a apt repo, which is a collection of index files. So apt-get reads the pre-generated sources lists and use that for output. So in order to use a local .deb or debian source file/dir, you need to make such a repo index. Which is doable, but a sidetrack in what I'm trying to achieve. Thanks thou

09:12<danielsh>sveinse, Yes setting up a repo is one solution. I was trying to describe another solution: use libapt to parse the dependencies. Or even feed the d/control file to libapt and tell it "Install this one".
