01:47<FellowTraveller>hello
01:48<FellowTraveller>So I'm using LVM. I have raid5 from 4x300GB drivers, this gave me around 800GB space. Inside system though i have only single pv: PV Size <88.39 GiB / not usable 3.00 MiB
01:48<FellowTraveller>how can i allocate remaining space to my volume group
01:48<FellowTraveller> vg_root 1 16 0 wz--n- 88.38g <17.04g
01:48<FellowTraveller>sda 8:0 0 835.4G 0 disk
01:48<jm_>pvextend, lvextend, vgextend, fs resize
01:49<FellowTraveller>i know
01:49<FellowTraveller>the thing is
01:49<FellowTraveller>this one is possibly harmfull thing and im not sure
01:49<FellowTraveller>I think i need first to fdisk /dev/sda and create another partition?
01:50<FellowTraveller>ill check pvextend though
01:50<jm_>what does pvs output now? use the paste site
01:50<FellowTraveller> PV VG Fmt Attr PSize PFree
01:50<FellowTraveller> /dev/mapper/3600605b0040b329024385530135fee4c3 vg_root lvm2 a-- 88.38g <17.04g
01:50<FellowTraveller>the thing is its only about 11-12% of total volume size
01:51<FellowTraveller>and I want to make my vg bigger
01:51<jm_>check that /dev/mapper/3600605b0040b329024385530135fee4c3 file, it's probably a symlink?
01:51<FellowTraveller>3lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 7 Apr 4 20:14 /dev/mapper/3600605b0040b329024385530135fee4c3 -> ../dm-3
01:52<jm_>what I am trying to figure out is if your PV was created on a partition or on the device directly, so the idea is to continue in the same fashion
01:53<FellowTraveller>it's actually ovirt(centos) i've picked manual partitioning and entered desired space of mountpoints which was about 70G hoping that the remaining space would be just within the volume group
01:53<FellowTraveller>but it's not
01:53<FellowTraveller>during the installation i mean
01:54<jm_>I think you best ask in a centos specific channel then, they should know how it creates the default layout - we stick to supporting debian setups only here
01:54<FellowTraveller>debian does not use fdisk and lvm?
01:54<FellowTraveller>is centos more advanced system
01:54<FellowTraveller>or something:)
01:54-!-Texou [~Texou@000178ec.user.oftc.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
01:55<FellowTraveller>ill search for official redhat/centos channel or maybe fedora but it's not within this irc network
01:55<FellowTraveller>i think
01:55<FellowTraveller>i always though debian is for hardcore players ;]
01:55<jm_>maybe on freenode

02:53<LilUFO>jm_, would I get a more stable setup out of debian testing than Arch?
02:54<LilUFO>I want rolling, but, a bit more stability than what arch offers
02:55<sep>LilUFO, as long as you stick to stable some months after the release, i would say yes.
02:56<sep>once the release is over the floodgates of changes come pouring in after some months in freeze. it is a silly time, so i stay on stable until that have settled down a bit
02:57<jm_>LilUFO: with testing it's a matter of luck - when you decide to upgrade etc - I use testing at home, but upgrade rarely, and so far never run into big issues
02:57<LilUFO>ah okay
02:57<LilUFO>thanks
02:57<FellowTraveller>still looking for support with my lvm :P

09:59<lsjet>update on disk corruption: Ran smart test (short) on both drives with zero errors. Then, In an effort to speed up troubleshooting this, I decided to back up just my most important data to a 3rd drive and risk the rest. I then ran the long offline smart test on both drives. Over 10 hours later both completed with zero errors. So now I'm thinking maybe RAM. I will take the machine down tonight for memory testing.

11:23<bremner>hmm. Maybe seek help from virtualbox forums?
11:23<towo`>and there is no need to compile vbox

11:28<bremner>if you need help with installing the toolchain (gcc etc...), we can help. But in general, help building some upstream project is best gotten from that project.
11:30<bremner>you could also download the source for the debian packages of virtualbox. That will tell you what dependencies are needed

15:33<apatran>mnuhmnuh: Ty. I installed the Nvidia proprietary drivers from Debian packages. I'll just make an image of my system before I upgrade just incase.
15:37<mnuhmnuh>apatran: you need to learn how to handle kernel upgrades too. every one causes nvidia hiccup.

22:32<scientes>but the manual doesn't say that
22:33<sarnold>would it say somewhere 'generic'? not in that specific instruction, because it's common to a whole class of instructions?
22:33<scientes>so you have to run it 4 times to process the whole byte
22:34<scientes>oh shiii, 5 bits
22:34<scientes>cause i only have avx2
22:34<scientes>so i have to run it 8 times
22:35<scientes>so with AVX512 it would run 16 times faster (my data is 1 byte, and avx2 smallest type for this class of functions is 4 bytes, plus an extra bit of the permute, plus twice as big of registers)
