03:59<dpkg>Newer kernels for Debian stable releases are available from the <stretch-backports> repository. After modifying your sources.list, run «aptitude update». To install the current backported kernel: «aptitude -t stretch-backports install linux-image-`uname -r|sed 's,[^-]*-[^-]*-,,'`». 05:23<petn-randall>hi Stemp
05:29<Stemp>hey
05:29<Stemp>I am having some trouble
05:30<Stemp>I installed Debian 9 a few months a go by downloading a complete Debian 9 ISO and putting it on USB and then installing trough USB.
05:30<Stemp>However at the time of installing I was in the mountains/countryside with zero access to internet. So I skipped any download parts.
05:30<Stemp>The problem is that now everytime I try to do *apt-get update* I have an error that says
05:31<Stemp>"The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 8B48AD6246925553 NO_PUBKEY 7638D0442B90D010 NO_PUBKEY EF0F382A1A7B6500"
05:31<Stemp>This problem basically makes me not be able get any new updates.
05:31<Stemp> The source of the problem I have read somewhere is that when not having internet connection while doing an install of Debian even if it is a full install (not a net install) the system will use default outdated keys.
05:31<ach>/msg dpkg stretch

05:31<dpkg>Advanced Packaging Tool (APT) is a package management system used by Debian and its derivatives. 05:32<ach>cd iso?
05:32<Stemp>I have tried this, but it does not work for me https://serverfault.com/questions/851724/apt-key-add-on-debian-stretch-no-valid-openpgp-data-found
05:32<ach>usb stick or cd iso
05:32<Stemp>I think it was a DVD ISO
05:32<Stemp>debian-keyring debian-archive-keyring are both already installed for me. Altho it says their version is from 2017
05:33<ach>would go but bit complicated?
05:33<Stemp>hmm not sure anymore what kind of ISO it was. Maybe it was USB
05:34<Stemp>at least the install went on smoothly
05:34<ach>or wait
05:34<Stemp>https://elkano.org/blog/debian-8-jessie-signatures-verified-public-key/ also tried this, but also didnt work :(
05:34<jm_>Stemp: version 2017.05... is OK for current stable release
05:34<ach>just can you run apt-key
05:35<Stemp>I can run apt-key yes
05:35<jm_>check if «apt-key list» lists the problematic keys you mentioned
05:36<jm_>if using grep, insert a space every 4 characters, i.e. 8B48AD6246925553 → 8B48 AD62 4692 5553
05:36<Stemp>hmm ok I check
05:37<jm_>(they should be in /etc/apt/trusted.gpg and /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/...)
05:37<Stemp>ok lets see
05:40<Stemp>hmm i dont think they are the same
05:42<ach>but i think apt-key should have fixed it and update should work now?
05:43<Stemp>hmm yes I think its fixed now
05:43<Stemp>not having any error
05:43<Stemp>is there a way I can check I have the latest updated repository ? Just to be sure
05:43<jm_>apt-get update fetches the latest stuff
05:44<ach>!sources.list
05:44<dpkg>A suitable /etc/apt/sources.list for "Stretch" has three lines: "deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ stretch main" "deb http://security.debian.org/debian-security stretch/updates main" "deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ stretch-updates main". Be sure to run «apt update» after editing sources.list. Also see <deb-src> <contrib> <non-free> <stretch/updates> <stretch-updates> <mirrors> and "man sources.list".
05:45<ach>me please
05:45<Stemp>alright thanks so much. :)
05:49<Stemp>I really love Debian. I have been using it since 2011. Altho I am mostly a simple 'consumer' so I barely know anything about programming

14:16<stiin>I'm having two issues with audio in firefox-esr on Debian testing, but I'm not sure how to diagnose either of them, so I'd really appreciate some hints. I see nothing in .xsession-errors or dmesg that points to a problem.
14:16<stiin>1) Whenever I try to play audio (mostly from YouTube), the first few seconds are sometimes entirely silent. This often happens when I haven't played audio in a while, but sometimes even while playing audio in another tab. Hard to reproduce.
14:16<stiin>2) Sometimes, but I'm not sure how to trigger it (sometimes it's just opening a new tab), a heavily distorted crackling echo of a few seconds later is mixed together with the sound. The situation resolves itself after a few minutes, or immediately when I say 'pactl exit'.
14:16<stiin>jhutchins_wk: my audio chipset is Realtek S1220A
14:18<jhutchins_wk>stiin: What happens when you play local audio files? Any problems there?
14:18<jhutchins_wk>stiin: What abouut a different browser?
14:19<stiin>oh wait, I'm using HDMI the sound output, so then it's my Raven Ridge HDMI audio controller
14:19<stiin>(I guess)
14:20<jhutchins_wk>stiin: You may want to ask in #debian-next since it's testing.
14:20<stiin>jhutchins_wk: oops, #debian-next might indeed be a better idea.
14:22<sarnold>stiin: try a dirt-simple audio inpt to that hdmi audio controller thing, too
14:23<sarnold>stiin: the 'first few seconds are silent' reminds me strongly of my television + soundbar. I haven't been able to debug it because I've only got the one optical emitter and the one optical receiver..
