04:38<dkeagle>Hello! I'm having some problem with a fresh install of Debian, i added the i386 architecture, to use 32bit packages (steam for exemple)
04:39<dkeagle>but when i try to install any packages in 32bit, it says it depends on some libs, and "won't be installed"
04:39<dkeagle>How can i solve that ? i tried to install steam and wine32 ans got the same problems
04:59<weedloser>what is the difference between apt install <package -t <dist> vs apt install <package>/<dist>?
05:00<Blendie>dkeagle: apt-get -f install first
05:00<Blendie>apt0-get update && apt-get -f install
05:01<thsnr>weedloser: -t will install the package and all missing dependencies from <dist>, / will install the package from <dist> but will pull deps from default sources
05:01<weedloser>That's what i thought, it lacks documentation though so i was unsure.
05:02<weedloser>thanks
05:04<dkeagle>Blendie, All packages are already up to date
05:05<dkeagle>0 updated, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not updated

05:49<Blendie>dkeagle: i'd recommend to get rid of 64 bit wine first then
05:49<Blendie>with autoremove
05:50<Blendie>then reinstall it, bot versions at once, or, if it fails, just the 32 bit one
05:52<dkeagle>ok, removing wine worked, and installed the wine32 too
05:52<dkeagle>don't know if it's better to use wine or wine32
05:53<Blendie>typically, i'd say the 32 one

05:53<Blendie>64 is an new invention, you might encounter problems typical to the 64 bit implementation
05:53<Blendie>but 64 bit runs 64 bit apps
05:54<Blendie>depends on your needs i guess
05:55<dkeagle>i'll use the 32bit version then, i remember using it on my laptop because i had some problems with the 64
05:55<dkeagle>but on my laptop i have the two installed without problems xD
05:56<Blendie>maybe different debian branch on the laptop of yours?

05:59<dkeagle>i don't know, i installed debian on the laptop in september, and on my PC here, it's a fresh install from last week
05:59<Blendie>you probably have buster as the fresh install
06:01<dkeagle>Buster ?
06:01<Blendie>that's the latest, soon-to-come debian, the 10th release
06:01<Blendie>i think it's the prefered download branch atm
06:02<Blendie>not entirely finished yet
06:02<dkeagle>Ohh ok

06:04<dkeagle>i'll check the laptop
06:08<Blendie>i personally have only the 64 bit branch installed on my sid system
06:08<dkeagle>laptop is 9.9 stretch too xD
06:08<dkeagle>and they use the same kernel (4.9.0-9 amd64)
06:09<Blendie>hm
06:09<Blendie>i got bot 32 and 64 bit wines installed here
06:09<Blendie>not sure what your problem is
06:09<dkeagle>Problem is solved, i couldn't install wine32, apparently because wine64 cas installed before
06:10<dkeagle>but i did the same on the laptop months ago, and i've got the two versions installed without problem
06:10<dkeagle>but now that i removed wine from the PC, i have installed wine32 and it worked
06:13<dkeagle>anyway, i might have others questions, as i'm still a beginner with Linux in general
06:14<dkeagle>first: is there a way to disable a sound output ? i installed an extension to choose my sound output directly in the sound menu up right corner on the desktop
06:15<dkeagle>(to change my output from my speakers to my headset quickly)
06:16<dkeagle>but in the sound output list, my HDMI screen is detected too, and on windows i can hide it, but is it possible on debian ?
06:16<Blendie>pulseaudio allows individual sound controlls for all the apps

06:19<dkeagle>here's a screenshot
06:20<dkeagle>in the sound output list, the only two i use are "speakers (CM108 Audio Controller)" and "Line out (Audio Interne)", is there a way to hide the others ?
06:20<DusXMT>dkeagle: I do believe there is, if you open up pavucontrol you can set them as "disabled"
06:20-!-unixpro1970 [~unixpro19@c-67-168-1-27.hsd1.wa.comcast.net] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
06:21<dkeagle>pavucontrol ?
06:21<DusXMT>Well, "off", in the configuration tab
06:21<Blendie>it's a pulseaudio specif=ic volume controll application
06:21<DusXMT>"PulseAudio Volume Control" within the application menu
06:21<Blendie>you can install it from apt
06:21<Blendie>it allows you to do all the pulseaudio user controlls
06:22<dkeagle>Oooh ok, i'll install it and test
06:25<dkeagle>do i need to reboot after ? i set "off" for "HDA Nvidia" but it's still in the list
06:25<Blendie>no need to rebood
06:25<Blendie>what did you de?
06:25<Blendie>do?
06:26<dkeagle>in the configuration tab of pavucontrol
06:26<Blendie>there is a tab for individual app controlls if that's what you need
06:26<dkeagle>i set "HDA Nvidia" to "off"
06:26<Blendie>why?
06:26<dkeagle>to hide it from the list
06:26<Blendie>but that sets the device off
06:26<Blendie>do you need that to happen?
06:26<dkeagle>on the screenshot, you can see there's five sound output, but i only use two (my speakers and my headset), i want to hide the others
06:27<dkeagle>i did it on windows by right clicking on them and "disable", so they won't show
06:27<Blendie>there is also alsamixer
06:27<Blendie>well then did it work out?
06:27<dkeagle>no, "HDA Nvidia" is "off" but still in the list
06:28<Blendie>and it will remain lke that
06:28<dkeagle>oh, so i can't hide them ?

06:31<dkeagle>as i'm unaware of it too, i won't touch it xD
06:32<Blendie>you better don't unless you know what you're doing
06:33<dkeagle>yeah, i know myself, i'll break something if i touch it
06:35<dkeagle>Oh, and last question while i think of it: When i shutdown the PC, no problem, but when i reboot it, i have an error " a stop job is running for debian-gdm 0/1m30"
06:35<dkeagle>and it wait 1 minute and a half before rebooting
06:35<Blendie>i get that if i have mounted nfs filesystems before i reboot
06:36<dkeagle>i have a ntfs fs mounted anytime (a hard drive with all my downloads, accessible from windows AND Debian, mounted at boot with the fstab)
06:36<dkeagle>but when i shutdown, no problem
06:37<Blendie>systemd features
06:37<dkeagle>i found a workaround telling to change the timeout from 1m30 to 1 sec, so the reboot will be quick, but it's like ignoring the problem
06:41<Blendie>you can spam ant+ctrl+del a lot and it'll force the reboot, at least it should

11:25<Synaptic>I have small problem with the Video players on Debian, and i had same problem on Mint and on Manjaro. But, on Windows was working fine. The problem is that the Movies, are going out of Audio sync. not immediately, but after few minutes of play, and going worst.
11:25<Synaptic>i try with VLC, Dragonplay, and mpv, same result, with many different movies. then if i close the program, and start again, maybe going good on sync for 30 mins, then again start to loose. i think something need to be fixed maybe on the audio drivers?

14:42<maxrazer>Synaptic, Are you sure it isn't the video file? That used to be a common problem with the creation of video files that was done incorrectly.
14:43<maxrazer>Does anyone know how to setup xdg open/mime etc setting correctly so when I click a link in a program like Discord it doesn't crash Chromium when it tries to open, or when I click "open folder" in Chromium it doesn't crash Chromium trying to open my file manager. It opens it in CHromium, but after 10 seconds and a crash/restart. I'm using DWM window manager and for some reason I am lacking proper settings. This is not a problem
14:43<maxrazer>when a full desktop environment like XFCE is installed.
14:46<Synaptic>maxrazer, all my videos work on win
14:46<Synaptic>just loosing sync on linux
14:46<Synaptic>i will try using alsa codecds
14:47<maxrazer>Synaptic, hmm. I'm not sure then. I don't think I've had a problem with that on Linux, but I haven't played/recorded a lot of videos that have audio/video sync.
14:47<maxrazer>I mostly stream videos from YouTube.
14:47<Synaptic>i just watch downloaded movies
14:48<Synaptic>using vlc or whatever
14:48<Synaptic>i will try also totem.. and all codecs

15:26<sparky4>well it runs slowly
15:26<towo`>blame nvidia, it's the vendor of that driver
15:26<maxrazer>sparky4, What possible solution could there be to that? Do you think they were always bad?

15:35<fdelapena>a little secret: if your hardware supports hardware virtualization, consider kvm via libvirt (gnome-boxes, virt manager [deprecated], cockpit-machines...)
15:36<fdelapena>so you don't need to mess with vboxdrv, they're trying to mainline all modules since around 2011, they are closer to get it done, but not yet
