03:14<krzychu>I have strange networking issue. Maybe someone can help. eth0 is interface with internet connection, eth1 is interface for local network. I have setup port forwarding to one of my intranet servers. Everything works fine for some time, but then forwarding stop working. I noticed, that when it happens, iptables start to see internet traffic input on eth1 interface, instead of eth0.
03:15<krzychu>iptables trace from working time: ov 7 22:56:19 kamera-249 kernel: [ 913.023327] IN=eth0 OUT=eth1 MAC=00:50:56:a8:00:28:00:04:96:9a:3f:8f:08:00 SRC= DST= LEN=77 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=119 ID=19275 PROTO=47
03:15<krzychu>And from not working time: Nov 7 22:56:25 kamera-249 kernel: [ 919.401475] IN=eth1 OUT=eth1 MAC=00:0c:29:46:a5:32:00:04:96:9a:3f:8f:08:00 SRC= DST= LEN=104 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=119 ID=19276 PROTO=47
03:17<krzychu>What's more, when I check MAC address of faulty server from other servers, both external and internal IP show the same MAC address

19:21<ydbi>somiaj: here are the packages installed using gnome task and xfce task
19:22<somiaj>ydbi: I'm not sure what is going on. But from what I see, cron recommends default-mta which should pull in exim4-daemon-lite, or some other mta
19:22<somiaj>I don't know why the installer is not doing that. I don't have time to test, you could file a bug about this, but to me default-mta (which is exim4-daemon-lite) should be installed by default which agrees with the release notes
19:23<ydbi>something is very broken with debian installation then and somebody should probably look into it quickly

19:26<ydbi>somiaj: says For technical reasons packages installed during the installation of the base system are installed without their “Recommends”.
19:26<ydbi>could that explain what I am seeing?
19:27<somiaj>that could, and is new to me
19:27<Guest7416>Exactly 'apt cache policy'? Even with permissions it states that 'invalid operation cache'
19:27<somiaj>So I guess that does imply that the 'installed by default' fails due to 'technical reasons'
19:27<ydbi>somiaj: something is definitely wrong with either debian installer, or the installation guide then
19:27<somiaj>Guest7416: sorry 'apt policy' and 'apt policy libp11-kit0'
19:28<ydbi>somiaj: no idea how I would describe that in a bug report
19:28<somiaj>Guest7416: you can use apt policy or apt-cache policy, I conufsed the two.
19:28<somiaj>ydbi: the issue is the base system is installed via debootstrap, which just coppies the files in place, it does't go through apt, as it is just a copy of the base system.
19:29<somiaj>ydbi: so only packages installed on top of the base system go through apt and have their recommends installed.
19:29<somiaj>ydbi: so this does appear to be a bug, it might be known, maybe file it against the debian-installer that default-mta is not installed even though it is a recommended package of cron, or fix the install guide which says it is installed by default.
19:30-!-wololoer [] has quit [Quit: WeeChat 2.6]
19:31<ydbi>I am inclined to say the install guide should be fixed since systemd is a replacement for cron anyway
19:31<somiaj>I would probably file it as a bug and let the devs decide if they think a default mta should be installed or not using the installer
19:31<somiaj>they may, as you mention, change the install guide, or find a way to fix the bug (depending on their design goals)
19:32<somiaj>(well look for an existing bug first
19:32<somiaj>as a quick search I'm not seeing any bugs against the debian-installer about the mta or exim
19:33<somiaj>ydbi: seems there is already a bug,
19:33<judd>Bug in installation-guide (pending): «exim4 is no longer installed by default»; severity: normal; opened: 2019-06-13; last modified: 2019-08-11.

19:36<ydbi>somiaj: oh my god that interface is shit, how do I use it??
19:36<ydbi>I just want to query by the heading of the bug report or content of a bug report
19:37<somiaj>ydbi: I use '' to list all bugs against a package, then search through them with ctrl-f
19:37<somiaj>ydbi: so I first looked at then looked at to find that bug
19:37<somiaj>ydbi: there are some development tools you can use from the command line that work better, but I'm not familar with them (others are way better at finding bugs than me)
19:38<Guest7416>II think that's correct
19:38-!-roschan [] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
19:38<ydbi>somiaj: thank you for teaching me, there do not appear to be any good resources on the debian pages for this :(
19:39<somiaj>Guest7416: Hmm, I don't know why you are getting any segfaults, but everything seems fine.
19:39<Guest7416>What would be the recommended course of action at this point?
19:40<somiaj>Guest7416: I don't see any bugs filed for this issue in my quick search.
19:41<Guest7416>The only thing that I could see causing this is the fact that I did swap hard drives before this started but nothing else
19:41<somiaj>Guest7416: maybe reset your network-manager configuration to make sure it isn't an issue with your configuration. Make sure the interface is not listed in /etc/network/interfaces, and make sure your user is in some group (forget which one) to be able to control network-manager system settings.
19:41<somiaj>Guest7416: maybe some artificat is floating around
19:41<dpkg>debsums is a utility that will check a package's files against their checksums. The "-a" argument will instruct it to also check configuration files: "apt install debsums; debsums -a -s". Almost all packages come with md5sums included in the package or apt will have generated them for you; generate missing ones with "apt-get install --reinstall `debsums -l`". Ask me about <md5sums>.
19:42<somiaj>Guest7416: maybe run debsums on the libp11-kit0 package, could be corruption in your copy.
19:43<Guest7416>I don't seem to have debsums installed
19:44<somiaj>Guest7416: oh and no network, maybe manually configure your network in /etc/network/interfaces to be able to install that
