19:17<Lantizia>hey so I've got 2 debian boxes here.. one with nginx and one with apache
19:18<Lantizia>oddly the one with apache (when testes on ssllabs.com) offers diffie-hellman 4096 cipher suites
19:18<Lantizia>despite the fact I can't find a single bit of configuration pointing at a DH Paramaters pem file (or a file itself)
19:18<Lantizia>but the nginx box refuses to offer up the same cipher suites unless one is generated and config is added pointing to it
19:19<Lantizia>so I guess I'm kind of wondering - who's more in the right?
19:20<sney>I'd be more inclined to trust the one where it needs to be explicitly configured

19:28<Lantizia>it was more a... how is this possible? :D
19:30<sney>if apache is offering a cipher suite via some black box internal (which is what I interpreted from you not being able to find a pem or config referencing one), then how can you trust that it's real and not some false positive?
19:31<Lantizia>well pretty certain it's not a false positive as I've run the test plenty of times

20:15<LuKaRo>Hi, just installed debian buster KDE on a MacBook Pro late 2011 with dual graphics (AMD/Intel). After booting, only a tty opened, SDDM failed to start. So I installed firmware-amd-graphics, firmware-linux-nonfree, libgl1-mesa-dri, libglx-mesa0, mesa-vulkan-drivers, xserver-xorg-video-all as advised https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo#Installation here and restareted. Now I don't even get the cryptfs password prompt during boot, so I guess my

20:34<LuKaRo>Ah, I was able to boot using an older kernel in the GRUB menu. How can I fix my main kernel?
20:34<johnjay>i usually boot into the system and do grub-install or maybe update-grub
20:34<johnjay>i'm not sure the difference exactly
20:35<johnjay>also i may be wrong, but grub is very confusing in that the actual boot menu for the entire drive is on the partition of your debian system
20:35<LuKaRo>Thanks! Are you sure that updating grub will fix it? Because Grub itself is working fine, it's that one image that doesn't work...
20:35<johnjay>meaning, you start up, efi boot manager runs, then it loads the different OS entries from debian partition, and then boots the actual OS.
20:36<johnjay>well if the kernel is the problem grub wont' fix that. grub just determines which partition to boot from
20:37<johnjay>all i've ever done with it is to edit in grub the kernel parameters, i think 'e' does that? not sure but it's in the manual. sometimes passing different kernel params is necessary
20:37<LuKaRo>Yeah, that's what I thought as well. And booting the older kernel version seems to work
20:38<LuKaRo>So I don't think it's an issue with Grub but rather an issue with the current kernel version?
20:40<johnjay>i don't know about those packages you said. but are you running a different kernel or a completely different partition?
20:40<johnjay>like ubuntu on one partition, arch on a second, etc?
20:41<LuKaRo>this is a MacBook, but Debian got their own /boot partition
20:42<LuKaRo>I think this has something to do with graphics, because when using the recovery mode boot entry in GRUB, I get "fb: switching to radeondrmfb from EFI VGA" and then it hangs.
20:42<johnjay>oh ok. if it's just debian then and it has different kernel options in grub then yeah that's a kernel problem
20:43<ax562>LuKaRo you are all over the place :P
20:43<johnjay>debian on a macbook sounds complicated
20:43<LuKaRo>ax562: Yeah noone replied here so I thought maybe asking on freenode would be the better option :D
20:43<LuKaRo>Apparently it's not :D
20:44<LuKaRo>johnjay: Actually I have another MacBook that runs debian for years now. But that just got the integrated graphics...
20:44<ax562>it's kind of hit or miss with irc, the channels are always there but people might not be/in the mood
20:44<LuKaRo>ax562: Yeah, maybe I wasn't patient enough...
20:44<ax562>LuKaRo good luck. I have a pc with multiple gpu cards. HEADACHE to get working properly with the drivers.
20:44<johnjay>but yeah if you upgraded graphics stuff and now the kernel won't boot that sounds bad
20:45<LuKaRo>To answer your question: No, I didn't get to GUI once. I booted once after the install, and just got the tty.
20:45<ax562>It might be an incorrect driver install. That's happened to me before.

20:46<ax562>yes

20:48<LuKaRo>And xorg log also showed some errors

20:48<johnjay>i've never got support for xorg issues. channee's the deadzone
20:48<LuKaRo>But now it won't even boot at all, because even the initramfs doesn't load
20:48<johnjay>ax562: that's just like ubuntu server. it installs without Xorg
20:49<johnjay>LuKaRo: well if you know about runlevels you can try giving a param to the kernel of 3 to try avoiding X and get to a shell then try to figure out what the running kernel is doing

Only the Intel shows up in pavucontrol, whereas when I swap out the Audigy card for an ordinary SB0200 card it shows up OK in the pavucontrol. Is there something missing in the pulseaudio code to not recognize
22:30<lerrius>the Audigy card? The Audigy card works fine via ALSA, but I'd like to be able to use it via pulseaudio (so that all applications could easily use the Audigy card, instead of having to manually tell them to use ALSA).

22:42<sqrt{not}>!debian-next
22:42<dpkg>#debian-next is the channel for testing/unstable support on the OFTC network (irc.oftc.net), *not* on freenode. If you get "Cannot join #debian-next (Channel is invite only)." it means you did not read it's on irc.oftc.net. See also https://wiki.debian.org/IRC and https://wiki.debian.org/GettingHelpOnIrc

23:23<sqrt{not}>webmind: I just took a look at Package: firmware-sof-signed on amd64 -- bullseye/non-free: 1.6~rc3-1 -- and it does contain this file: firmware-sof-1.6~rc3/lib/firmware/intel/sof-tplg-v1.6/sof-hda-generic-4ch.tplg -- so you may be able to do something with a symlink
