13:31<ratrace>freem: why would that matter? according to the issue you described, the /dev node is created, even works in the lower OSI layer but dhclient gets the wrong range. sounds like an issue on the phone side, at face value
13:31<freem>ratrace: dmesg gives me this: "systemd-udevd[15434]: Could not generate persistent MAC address for usb0: No such file or directory"

13:32<freem>and from stuff I've read, it seems that "enp0s20f0u6" or alike is not what should be configured
13:32<ratrace>freem: oh... maybe you could force no interface renaming? it's _NOT_ predictable anyway. for example, if you use net.ifnames=0 in the kernel command line (grub), all the devices will remain in their kernel designated names. eth0, eth1, usb0, wlan0, ...
13:32<freem>I think I've seen tethered systems before, I remember having an explicit usb0 link and that weird one
13:33<freem>good idea
13:33<ratrace>if you have multiple of the same kind, eg eth0, eth1; you can bind them by their MACs, so they stay very much predictable

17:10<somiaj>at some level you need to manage your space, debian itself doesn't use to much space unless you install tons of packages.
17:11<somiaj>outside of 'apt-get clean' to delete any .deb files you have downloaded and installed that are sitting on your system and doing very little, most of the space is personal data in $HOME which you most liklely want.
17:11<jhutchins>gulamtcho: Most of us don't call disk space "memory". "Memory" usually referrs to RAM.
17:11<somiaj>sometimes logs can take up a bit of space, run 'du -h /var/log' as root if you want an idea how much space logs are using up.

18:03<somiaj>gulamtcho: 28gigs should be enough space for basic use, so either you ahve lots of packages installed, you have a lot of personal data, or something is eating up space. The first thing would be start to use the du tool and figure out what is using space. 'du -h /usr' would tell you how much space is being used by stuff installed by debian, du -h /var, might tell you if you have stuff piling up there.

18:16<wr>gulamtcho, Linux doesn't waste space, your data is occupying it, in case of Windows there are ways of liberating space, you may then want to resize partitions windows side and then gain space on Debian
18:16<gulamtcho>yes I will do it in this way.
18:16<wr>gulamtcho, by the way the environment you use can eat more space than others
18:16<sussudio>gulamtcho: make sure to verify your backups if you're storing them on a nas...
18:17<somiaj>gulamtcho: I would also suggest using 'apt' over 'apt-get' for all your package needs. It provides nicer/colored info, is completely compatiable, and will automatically delete all .deb files after a package is installed keeping your space down.
