00:00<Sqrt{not}>if you would not be afraid to tell us what you really want to do, we might be able to name a graphical program that will do it, using gpg for the dirty work
00:00<Duder>I'm just trying to get a resource that'll help me use the terminal to use the program.
00:00<coruja>Duder: we all were newbies once
00:00<Duder>I can handle a terminal, as long as I've got a way to get my head around how to avoid those annoying little newbie syntax errors.
00:01<Duder>But really, it's fine.
00:01<Duder>I appreciate the help.

03:41<bentham>In OpenSSL 1.0.x, a quirk in certificate verification means that even clients that trust ISRG Root X1 will fail when presented with the Android-compatible certificate chain we are recommending by default.

04:25<twb>bentham: LE broke that way on the 29th of last month
04:25<twb>bentham: I don't know what the fix is, but it's not just you
04:26<twb>mceier: update-ca-certificates only copies certificates from /usr/local into /etc
04:26<twb>mceier: it doesn't e.g. download a new certificate pool from mozilla.com
04:26<mceier>twb: it updates the concatenated cert file
04:26<twb>I mean... it won't hurt, but I don't think it'll help
04:27<twb>"apt install ca-certificates/bullseye-security" might I suppose
04:27<twb>Except that doesn't exist yet
04:27<twb>stable/testing/unstable are all still using a 2019 pool
04:28<twb>I don't know what chromium and firefox-esr are using; they embed their certificate pools into libraries because this is Worst Timeline
04:34<bentham>Yea, I have firefox-esr and Tor Browser. At least Tor Browser seems to have good certificates.
04:35<bentham>twb: Thanks for that clarification; it is helpful.
04:35<bentham>So I guess what I must do is extricate the certificate pool from my Tor Browser installation and put them in a place where openssl can use them.
04:37<bentham>I found a script that claims to do the first part of that:
04:37<scorpion2185[m]>@_oftc_Linux-Fan:matrix.org: right , thanks

04:38<bentham>I can put it in /etc/ssl/certs, but that does not seem to be the whole solution.
04:38<bentham>I imagine that I must add some lines to /etc/ca-certificates.conf; is that right? What would those lines be?

10:51<krumelmonster>I have a headless system with encrypted lvm which I want to boot without interaction for now. I will set a secure LUKS-Password later when needed. Debian bullseye does not yet seem to support the "new" try-empty-password option in /etc/crypttab and /etc/cryptsetup-keys.d/ doesn't seem to be supported either (by looking at `man crypttab`). I also see no option to pass a password in plaintext using crypttab so what do I do?
10:52<FLD>have you tried passing an empty keyfile?
10:53<krumelmonster>By the way it also seems that debians cryptroot-unlock as well as the installer don't handle empty luks passwords well – The installer won't allow it and, this is a big isue for me, initramfs won't let me boot with an empty password.
10:53<qqq>can you like, start X server and tell it which of 2 keyboards, mouses and LCD to use?

10:58<krumelmonster>FLD can I put the keyfiles in /etc/cryptsetup-keys.d/ ?

12:03<boud>Bullseye question: Is there a good guide to getting either ID_NET_NAME_PATH to be used by the kernel, or getting a stable ID_NET_NAME_MAC for a usb connection? For the same device (a mobian pinephone), I get a different ID_NET_NAME_MAC of the form enxXXXXXXXXXXXX where XXXXXXXXXXXX is a hexadecimal string, and ID_NET_NAME_PATH is known by udevadm but the value doesn't appear in /var/log/syslog and can't be
12:03<boud>used by 'ifup' and /etc/network/interfaces. I have ID_NET_NAMING_SCHEME=v247. These are output by udevadm test-builtin net_id /sys/class/net/enxXXXXXXXXXXXX.

14:21<Sqrt{not}>hefe, yes, what somiaj said. rufus 3.15 has a choice between "DD" mode and "ISO" mode just before you start to write.
14:22<Sqrt{not}>rufus should work, if you follow that advice. the other good option is win32diskimager

14:22<dpkg>win32diskimager is much more reliable than <rufus> or <etcher> for copying ISO images to USB sticks and you can download it from https://sf.net/projects/win32diskimager/ .
