00:24<EuphCat>Hello, I have a question regarding the packaging of pyside2 on bullseye
00:25<will0w>I love how Arizona has it's own time zone in the installer along with Eastern, Mountain, Pacific, etc.
00:26<EuphCat>> Hello, I have a question regarding the packaging of pyside2 on bullseye
00:26<somiaj>well it has to, since it doesn't use DST
00:26<EuphCat>oops, sorry
00:26<will0w>yes it's the only sane locality in the Western world that doesn't stupidly tinker with the clock twice per year ;-)
00:26<somiaj>EuphCat: just ask your question, we might be able to point you in the correct direction.

00:27-!-arifendronugroho is "arifendronugroho" on #debian
00:27<EuphCat>okay so I'm trying to install pyside2 on a raspberry pi, and I can't seem to find a way to install pyside2-uic
00:27<somiaj>will0w: though many would rather always have DST vs always not have it.
00:27<somiaj>EuphCat: are you actually running debian or Raspberry pi OS (use to be called raspbian)?
00:27<will0w>somiaj: whatever the time is now, I'm not on it. I'm still on whatever it was in the Summer
00:27<somiaj>but there is no package pyside2-uic in debian bullseye
00:27<EuphCat>Raspberry pi OS, but I believed that the packaging configuration has been inherited from Debian
00:28<somiaj>!raspbian
00:28<dpkg>Raspberry Pi OS (previously called Raspbian) is a distribution <based on Debian> made specifically for the <Raspberry Pi>. Raspbian is not Debian and it is not supported in #debian. Please use #raspbian (or #raspberrypi) on irc.libera.chat for support. https://www.raspbian.org/
00:28<somiaj>EuphCat: we can't really support based on debian distros here, they change things we are unaware of, and what we say here may or may not apply.
00:28<somiaj>but the package you mention is not part of bullseye
00:29<EuphCat>well, it still is related to debian.. I have confirmed the package names and availabilities match with debian package search system
00:29<will0w>somiaj: i guess you are right. right now is ST so I guess in Summer it's DT
00:29<somiaj>will0w: yea, I'd rather have permanant DST, since DST is now the correct time most of the year since they moved it back to only be non DST for a few months
00:30<somiaj>Yup, and I think most would prefer the time change go and we just make DST all year around
00:30-!-aloo_shu [~aloo_shu@79.116.108.10] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
00:30<EuphCat>on buster python3-pyside2uic was available, and on sid pyside2-uic is included in pyside2-tools afaict. It doesn't seem to be there in bullseye
00:31<somiaj>EuphCat: you can look at tracker.debian.org to see why packages were removed. Most likely due to support or some RC bug that couldn't be fixed by the time bullseye released.
00:31<somiaj>Though this only says what debian does. In general you should use the raspbian community for support if that is the OS you choose to run
00:31<EuphCat>Okay, thanks. I'll take a look there
00:32<somiaj>Debian is open, you can find all info documented in various places, and there should always be some assoicated bug which is all public information

00:34<EuphCat>yeah, I try to find infos first usually (I use Arch btw ;) ) but well, I have to upgrade the system at work and I got quite confused in a hurry :P
00:34<will0w>this is my first time setting up LVM manually in the installer. so i created a /boot and an LVM partition. now will the installer create a logical volume on the LVM physical volume?
00:35<somiaj>will0w: Using the guided or manual approach?
00:36<somiaj>guided should do all the work and create the volume, manual you'll have to use the installer to manually create it
00:37<will0w>somiaj: guided was going to put everything in one LVM partition, but i wanted one non-LVM /boot partition so I selected manual
00:38<somiaj>it should have put /boot out of it, or at least use to. In that case you'll have to manually create the volume group and tell it what partitions/filesystems/mount points to use
00:38-!-A|an [~Alan@173.216.51.200] has quit [Quit: A|an]
00:38<will0w>maybe there's no point in having a non-LVM /boot? some guides seemed to suggest it
00:39<will0w>ok ill go back and try guided just to see.
00:39<somiaj>You can even have /boot inside an encrypted LVM, but that requires a bit more work. I thought the standard was still to not include /boot in the LVM even though grub supports lvm these days
00:40<will0w>i think i'm confusing the installer asking if i want everything in one partition or want separate partitions for /home, etc.
00:40<will0w>that must be independent of /boot
00:41<somiaj>I think it is
00:41<somiaj>testing it out right now
00:41<will0w>ugh this dialog interface is getting all weird with artifacts
00:41<somiaj>are you using the text based or graphical installer?
00:42<will0w>text-based in a virtual tty using virt-install
00:43<will0w>whenever the dialog window text exceeds the virtual tty size it gets glitchy
00:43<will0w>fortunately most of the dialogs are not larger
00:43<somiaj>ahh, unsure why you are getting artifiacts. I'm just testing in a vm too. It does appear guided + LVM didn't make a separate /boot partition outside the lvm, but I assume this is because it isn't needed.
00:43<will0w>oh i see yes it did set up an ext2 /boot
00:44<somiaj>yea, I see /dev/vda1 mounted at /target/boot so it created a /boot partition outside of the lvm
00:45<will0w>fyi here's the virt-install script i'm using: http://paste.debian.net/1223192/ this presumes you have ovmf installed for uefi machine support
00:46<will0w>it also assumes you have a bridge br0
00:46<somiaj>I'm just using virt-manager, and legacy boot, but that shouldn't matter, it does appear that the guided will put /boot outside of the lvm and make it about 500Megs
00:46<somiaj>Yea, I'm not using a bridge on this system but a virtual network

01:18<somiaj>Knaxius: correct
01:18<somiaj>Knaxius: debian supports oldstable for one year after the next release. Since release dates are not set, the EOL dates can no longer be set
01:19<somiaj>Once LTS or ELTS takes over, they set dates based on their funding/volunteers
01:19<Knaxius>there usually is plenty of time from the freeze moment on
01:20<somiaj>It is approximtally 3 years from release until debian stops support and LTS takes over
01:21<somiaj>and debian releases are about 2 years long, but this varies by about 6 months, and dates are not set before the release happens. Hence busters EOL date was set when bullseye was released, and bullseye end of support will be annoucned with the release of bookworm
01:22<Knaxius>good foundations to make plans

03:25<somiaj>*your
03:25<Cork>somiaj: ya, cause it stayed as buster when running full-upgrade
03:26<somiaj>that is because of the poor versioning that repo gave the package names, since 1:10.6.5+maria~buster > 1:10.6.5+maria~bullseye
03:26<Cork>the same version exists, just as 1:10.6.5+maria~bullseye

12:49<joeDoe>I've just had 2 screen (the terminal multiplexer) buffers in an urxvt window freeze after typing "pmount /med" and then pressing tab for completion. Tab completion didn't complete, and now both windows are stuck. I've tried Esc, and Ctrl+Q, and backspace, nothing works. I can jump between screen session buffers and the other buffers aren't frozen. Anyone know how to unstick those

20:31<Gerowen>Has anybody had issues with Wayland on Ryzen integrated graphics (Ryzen 5 2500U) causing occasional stuttering, crashing to login screen, etc.? 99% of the time it's fine, but I've had occasionally hiccups where it'll start stuttering real hard while playing a video, or just randomly crash. I've tried disabling extensions and everything. Reverting to Xorg "seems", at least so far, to have fixed the issue.

20:41<Gerowen>sney: I suspected it had something to do with some bad extensions because "occasionally" when it would crash, when I'd log back in all the extensions would be disabled, but most of the time this didn't happen, and sometimes rather than immediately crashing, the whole system would begin to stutter hard, despite having plenty of memory left and the CPU under no serious load. At times it would only happen when mousing over "Activities" to trigger the
20:41<Gerowen>animation, but opening files and folders on my desktop didn't seem to bother it. I just decided that since I've tried disabling and switching extensions, and that didn't seem to help, I might as well try X, and at least so far, for both my wife and myself, it seems to have fixed our issues.
20:43<Gerowen>If she played Minecraft for more than just a few minutes, without fail, it would begin to stutter hard at random intervals, despite the system temps being in the 40s and 50s and the CPU not being pegged. I had her reboot and log in with X instead and she just played for an hour with no issues.
20:43<Gerowen>If it continues working well, I guess we'll just stick with X and retry Wayland with the next release of Debian in a few years.
20:44<sney>yeah, so the bottlenecking is in the gpu instead I guess
