02:10<gooseman>I'm going to post my question again, for all the folks in here who have just joined.
02:10<gooseman>I'm running Debian 11 with Xfce 4.16 on a Dell Latitude E6420 laptop, and I'm trying to figure out why the HDMI port is not working for me. I would rather diagnose the software before diagnosing any hardware. I know my HDMI cable and external monitor are fine, because another machine can use them successfully. :)
02:10<gooseman>When I run `lspci | grep -i hdmi`, I only see an *Audio device.* When I run `xrandr | grep -i hdmi`, I see no results. This does not change before or after unplugging/plugging the HDMI cable. The laptop has an old NVidia card, and I installed the appropriate driver (through `nvidia-detect`). Unfortunattely that did not work, either.
02:10<gooseman>What else can I (or should I) try? I'm open to your suggestions.
