00:13<mads_>is there a way to start over in installing wordpress in 14.04? It seem like I accidentally remove some important file now i'm struggling
00:14<FluffyFoxeh>clear out /var/www and the database tables I would think
00:14<FluffyFoxeh>If that's where you put it. Don't remove other stuff obviously :p
00:20<mads_>How can I fix this: package <> has no installation candidate it seem like my sources.list are missing
00:20<mads_>or something in chaos
00:30<millisa>Happy Billing Day!
00:35<mads_>How can I restore the default repositories?

00:38<maav>How can I restore the default repositories?
00:38<maav>Ubuntu 14.04
00:40<maav>help me anyone I accidentally remove my sources.list & sources.list.d and now I'm not able to install my need packages
00:41<millisa>you could spinup another linode and copy it from there?
00:42<millisa>the main us repo I think is just: deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty main universe ?
00:45<maav>How can I use that? I'm literally new into this
00:46<grawity>sources.list is a textfile
00:46<millisa>Same way you did the first one? https://www.linode.com/docs/getting-started <-- that walks you through provisioning a linode. adding a second one (or more!) is pretty much the same
00:46<grawity>containing lines more or less like that one
00:46<grawity>so you 1) create it with a text editor, 2) add that line, 3) save
00:46<grawity>possibly you also have /usr/share/doc/apt/examples/sources.list?
00:46<millisa>this page also talks about regenerating the repo file - it has a link to a site that helps you generate one, too. http://www.tuxgarage.com/2011/01/restore-your-sources-list-to-defaults.html
00:47<arlen>also helpful https://www.linode.com/docs/platform/package-mirrors

01:40<millisa>that looks like it isn't processing php
01:42<millisa>Early in the install wordpress doc it mentions setting up a lamp/lemp stack. Did you follow all the steps with that (I'm assuming you looked at the apache one since you were asking about apache: https://www.linode.com/docs/websites/lamp/lamp-on-ubuntu-14-04 )
02:02<maav>done with that steps but still getting the same output
02:03<millisa>you installed php and reloaded apache?
02:04<maav>yep i did
02:06<maav>actually everything was working fine before, until i tried to create multiple sites into 1 server.. and this was the result

03:43<Peng>Hi
03:43<FluffyFoxeh>e
03:43<jaffi>hi i had a question about upgrading storage space
03:43<kyhwana>jaffi: you can't, you can only upgrade to whatever plans there are

03:44<jaffi>wow
03:44<kyhwana>(you can't upgrade just parts, like storage or ram or cpu, etc)
03:45<jaffi>i am using digitalocean severs for a development and wanted to switch to lindoe for launch but with digital ocean you can increase space if you wish
03:45<jaffi>ok cool
03:45<Peng>Yes and no.

03:45<Peng>DigitalOcean supports attached network storage in some of their data centers. Linode doesn't, yet.
03:46<FluffyFoxeh>It's in the works
03:46<Peng>DigitalOcean doesn't support increasing the size of hte local disks without upgrading to a different plan.
03:47-!-mode/#linode [+l 312] by ChanServ
03:47<jaffi>you can add 100Gb for an additional $10
03:47<Peng>Of attached network storage in some of the data centers, yes.
03:48<FluffyFoxeh>and there are plans to support that on Linode but it hasn't been deployed yet
03:50<jaffi>the $80 linode plan which is where i would start is sufficient but eventually i will have to increase and jumping to $160 is quite a jump
03:50<Peng>:X
03:50<jaffi>i will look out for that fluffy
03:50<Peng>You could use multiple nodes of different sizes. Maybe.
03:52<jaffi>i'll have to check and see how best to proceed, thanks for your input
03:52<FluffyFoxeh>or use a dedicated server for storage
03:52<FluffyFoxeh>they tend to have much more of it

12:06<hamza>the output of /etc/nginx/sites-available/ghost is https://bpaste.net/show/e688ea218db7
12:06<@pzona>ghost offers an init script that's a little more robust than what you have here. you may want to try backing up the /etc/init.d/ghost file and replacing it with this: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/TryGhost/Ghost-Config/master/init.d/ghost
12:09<@pzona>what does your /etc/nginx/sites-available/ghost file look like?

12:10<linbot>New news from forum: General Discussion • CentOS v7, not booting from latest updated kernel. <https://forum.linode.com/viewtopic.php?t=14522&p=72630#p72630>
12:14<@pzona>hamza: i was having a lot of problems with the init script, so here's what I did. i installed forever (sudo npm i -g forever) and then dropped this script into my web root: https://bpaste.net/show/0dce24126b1a
12:15<@pzona>you can also just use forever to manage it, but i just run that script and it stays up all the time
12:16<@pzona>in your case, you'd change /var/www/ghost/exampledomain.com on line 7 to /var/www/ghost
12:17<hamza>in which file i should do these changes?
12:18<@pzona>run sudo npm i -g forever from the command line (anywhere)
12:19<hamza>i ran that command but still bad gateway :(
12:19<@pzona>then curl https://bpaste.net/show/0a5b2a5a936d > ghost-script.sh
12:19<@pzona>in your web root (/var/www/ghost)
12:19<@pzona>then modify ghost-script.sh to change the --sourceDir value
12:19<@pzona>then sudo bash ghost-script.sh
12:20<hamza>then problem will be solved? :/
12:20<@pzona>hopefully :)
12:20<hamza>ok i have ran sudo npm i -g forever
12:20<hamza>now what should i do
12:20<hamza>i am new to ghost :/
12:21<@pzona>no worries, it can be tricky. try running NODE_ENV=production forever start index.js
12:21<@pzona>from your /var/www/ghost directory
12:21<hamza>ok

12:29<@jdfriedrikson>bring your files over to nginx and use that as your webserver
12:29<@jdfriedrikson>there's no point to using ghost if you're just hosting a couple of static pages
12:29<@pzona>^^^ that would be the simplest thing to do
12:29<hamza>how can i do it?
12:29<@jdfriedrikson>taking on an nginx configuration is way more simple than taking on the cargo cult of JS frameworks

12:35<@jdfriedrikson>they still need to migrate the old site over

12:35<@jdfriedrikson>hamza: have you tried asking for help anywhere other than here?
12:36<@pzona>well if the data is in mongo that's a challenge of its own. ghost uses sqlite

21:37<Peng>:/
21:37<microvb>I was just about to ask why all my boxes bandwidth has been relegated to around 1-1.5 Mbit :S
21:38<FluffyFoxeh>if it's severe performance degredation and can't be explained by anything running on your Linode, why not open a ticket
21:39<FluffyFoxeh>it'd probably be more productive than speculating in any case :p
21:40<microvb>Yes, but Linux .... does funny things sometimes. Best to be sure. I have checked all the regular suspects, and everything seems in order. CPU / Mem / etc, seem to have decent amounts available. But rebooting helps for about a minute or so. Some of the boxes are just really laggy even through reboot.
21:41<fantasymashups>Guys linode boxes are doing great, the site is doing great

21:41<microvb>I am still gathering information before submitting a ticket :)
21:41<fantasymashups>I am being proactive and already mentioned all my concerns in the ticket to try to get some second opinions on expansion and such
21:42<fantasymashups>oh ahah I get what you are saying now

21:42<fantasymashups>We just hit 100,000 requests
21:42<fantasymashups>40,000 in the last 35 minutes
21:42<fantasymashups>probably mostly handled by the CDN though
21:42<Cromulent>nice :) looks like a successful marketing campaign indeed :)
21:43<Cromulent>I'd be happy with 100 hits a day on my new blog :D
21:44<fantasymashups>I think out budget is like 200,000 usd
21:44<fantasymashups>for marketing
21:44<fantasymashups>lol
21:45<fantasymashups>This is a small campaign I believe.
21:45<fantasymashups>But the less we have to spend to gain traction the better, i wont complain :)
21:45<Cromulent>heh yeah slightly more than my budget :P

21:56<fantasymashups>Last 15 minutes the CDN is saying we got 15,342 requests and 54% are JSON type. Any tools on the Linode side to break-down further what those are or on the CDN? I asked the DEVs what those could be
21:56<fantasymashups>I can't think of what that many would be haha, I don't have direct access to our user stats so I don't know how many active users on the site
21:56<fantasymashups>but I highly doubt it's thousands
21:56<fantasymashups>right now

22:01<Peng>fantasymashups: You'd have to ask Cloudfare what tools they have. I don't think the lower-end accounts have detailed logging available.
22:01<Peng>fantasymashups: On your Linode, your web server is probably configured to log requests by default, but that can be changed.
22:01<Peng>fantasymashups: On your Linode, there probably aren't any interesting log analysis tools installed by default, other than "open the file and read it". Again, that's up to you team.
22:01<Peng>your*
