09:40<nate>tharkun: Unless you're on a very old linode plan, you're most likely definitely on an SSD yes, though it's not an "SSD as HDD", it's an SSD as an SSD.
09:40<nate>As for it's read/write's at the base drives, that you would probably have to file a ticket for, though not sure why that matters, I'm sure linode monitors the health of the drives pretty actively

09:42<tharkun>Precisely I don't want to kill the ones on my host prematurely. I need to do a heck of a lot of read/write cycles so I want to know how much I have allready "worn out" the life expectancy of the ssd's
09:42<nate>I feel like if you were doing THAT much, they would have probably already seen it via graphs and warned you about it, but like I said, try a support ticket
09:42<nate>this is mainly the community support channel
09:45<tharkun>nate: I've been a linode customer for quite sometime. I've never had the need to file a ticket. Community help has been more than enough for me. And I've delayed the heavy ssd usage up until next week when I believe I can have a less ssd intensive solution in place.
09:46<tharkun>Anyway If there is a @ around with some coffee time to spare I would appreciate a more insightfull answer.

09:50<nate>tharkun: plenty of ops around, they're just generally busy with, you know, tickets, lol. I mean if you don't mind waiting and that you might be making things more complicated for them then sure by all means, lurk and wait :P
09:51<nate>past that, there's no real way 'community help' can tell you. Only thing I can think of is to check SMART, I'm not sure how that works under an instanced virtual server though
10:11<@nbrewer>tharkun: we're not going to be able to look up any of your account details via irc, so i wouldn't be able to tell you for sure that your Linode is on an SSD host, although it's likely that it is.

11:39<tharkun>nbrewer: my linode is currently on ssd hw so really no need to check them. The decay rate of ssd hw is somewhat of a mistery to me since vendors say that it will last the same as regular hdd on any type of condition. I am interested on the topic and what better place to ask but here wher you get to have ssd hw used and abused.

13:25<Andrew>My IP address Will Linode provide with a server ?
13:25<Andrew>***how many
13:25<@nbrewer>Andrew: each Linode comes with one IPv4 and IPv6 address, statically assigned
13:25<@nbrewer>additional IPs are available with technical justification.
13:26<Andrew>Do lined allow to send emails through those IP address ?
13:26<Andrew>**linode
13:27<@nbrewer>Andrew: yes, provided that your emails are opt-in and can-spam compliant, and comply with our terms of service.
13:27<Andrew>Thats great. Is it possible to get additional IP address for sending emails ?
13:28<@nbrewer>Andrew: no, probably not. why would you need more than one to send emails?
13:29<cruxeternus>Because those darn blacklists keep spearing him.

18:16<@mcintosh>this is pretty old but perhaps https://github.com/fictorial/linode-api
18:16<bfoote>thanks much
18:17<@mcintosh>np
18:19<millisa>(in the new api, I don't see ubuntu 14.04) --> curl https://api.alpha.linode.com/v4/linode/distributions | python -mjson.tool
18:19<millisa>12.04, 16.04 and 16.10 are in there though
18:19<bfoote>wow... "Unable to fuzzy match distribution: 15"
18:20<Eugene>Try being fuzzier.
18:20<bfoote>hehe
18:24<@mcintosh>bfoote: trying to test why you're seeing that now
18:27<@mcintosh>bfoote: it works for me

18:40<bfoote>thanks, thec cli is running inside a docker container from a base image using Ubuntu 14.04 itself, `TERM=xterm` is in the environment and docker run is using `-i -t`
18:40<bfoote>the api key is in the environment
18:41<bfoote>I don't feel like the command is getting cut off
18:41<@mcintosh>was just a guess -- i don't know why you're seeing that error (I don't get an error running the same)
18:43<bfoote>looks like its `linode-cli 1.4.7`
18:44<@mcintosh>linode -v 127 ↵
18:44<@mcintosh>linode-cli 1.4.7
18:44<@mcintosh>same
18:44<millisa>isn't ubuntu 14.04's distribution id 124?
18:44<millisa>curl "https://api.linode.com?api_key=$mylinodeapikey&api_action=avail.distributions"| python -mjson.tool
18:44<millisa>(assuming you have your api key in $mylinodeapikey)
18:44<@mcintosh>yes but the cli has some of it's own mappings as well for distros (i think)
18:45<millisa>ah. never used it.
18:45<@mcintosh>I don't think the ID would be the issue, though - it seems to match on the name fine
18:45<bfoote>hmm... 124 yeilds.. "Unable to create testing. API Error 8: Some plans are not available for legacy 'pre-pay' accounts. Please convert to Hourly billing..."

18:47<bfoote>that's interesting.. I am trying a 1024 size
18:47<@mcintosh>bfoote: that error is unrelated to distro choice (but is a good sign - it suggests using the correct ID may work for you after all)
18:47<@mcintosh>if you're a prepaid customer, you can't use the $5 plan
18:47<@mcintosh>must convert to hourly first
18:47<@mcintosh>under the "Account" tab in the Manager
18:49<bfoote>same with 2048 plan.. "Unable to fuzzy match distribution: 15"
18:51<@mcintosh>yeah I think 15 is going to always report as wrong -- I'd stick with 124 as millisa suggested above
18:51<@mcintosh>think the doc i was referencing may need updating
18:53<bfoote>aha
18:53<millisa>success?
18:54<@mcintosh>yup - '15' refers to the number you enter when setting the default distro for linode-cli - it's not the real distro ID
18:55<bfoote>got it to work with 2048 + 124.. at least further down the rabbit hole https://hastebin.com/kejapavasa.rb
18:55<bfoote>thanks for hanging with me
18:55<bfoote>I'll have to look at the json setup for the stack script
18:56<millisa>https://www.linode.com/docs/platform/linode-cli <-- that does show putting quotes about the distribution when they use the name
