00:09<bdube>oh my crap, my router is showing over 180 neighbors in the IPv6 section. do I have v6 at home and didn't even know it?
00:10<dcraig>the horror
00:10<Peng>Do you have 179 extra phones you don't know about?
00:10<bdube>let me check
00:10<Peng>Try your couch cushions
00:11<Peng>I dunno, it could all be your LAN and failed neighbor discovery and stuff?
00:11<bdube>my wife took my phone, maybe she also took phones from hundreds of people
00:11<Peng>You can check and see if you have real IPv6
00:11<Peng>Plausible
00:12<bdube>$isp hasn't updated their v6 information in years, so it's hard to even know whether I should have it

01:50<tushark>Hi, I'm getting the following error while doing `apt-get-update` : ```E: The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/https could not be found. N: Is the package apt-transport-https installed?```
01:50<tushark>apt-get install apt-transport-https doesn't work either
01:53<retro|blah>Can you pastebin your /etc/apt/sources.list?
01:55<tushark>Here's the link: http://pastebin.com/E6YsWHhw
01:56<retro|blah>What about the output of "grep https /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*"?
01:57<tushark>It's /etc/apt/sources.list.d/yarn.list:deb https://dl.yarnpkg.com/debian/ stable main
01:59<retro|blah>Hm OK. What is the full output when attempting to run "apt-get install apt-transport-https"?
02:03<tushark>Please check this pastebin http://pastebin.com/vmPrdaNv . I've added the output at the bottom
02:05<retro|blah>OK, so it's claiming you need to do an apt-get update. What is the full output when you do that? (Note there's only one -, not two)
02:06<tushark>It's just: E: The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/https could not be found. N: Is the package apt-transport-https installed?
02:07<retro|blah>Well, that's annoying. Comment out the https line that was added to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/yarn.list, then "apt-get update" again.
02:08<retro|blah>Once that update is successful, AND your installation of apt-transport-https is successful as well, you can then go back and uncomment that line, and see if apt-get update works.
02:11<tushark>It worked. :) Thank you

06:17<grawity>start with regular, see if it's slow
06:20<Cromulent>grawity: yeah I guess that is the best option - I'm writing a simple chat application you see and I can either do it this way or I can make it more complex and use WebSockets - I'd rather keep it simple to start with
06:20<Cromulent>I doubt there will be more than 50 people online at any one time
06:21<grawity>ehh, you could probably run that off a raspberry pi
06:23<Cromulent>grawity: the thing that worries me though is that every second there will be 50 queries - if they don't all finish within a second they start pushing back the next seconds queries - or I could just make it poll every 2 seconds but then chat will be a bit slower
06:23<grawity>for a chat app, I guess most of those read queries will be just RAM lookups
06:25<Zimsky>Cromulent: get a bunch of different size linodes and run benchmark tests
06:25<Cromulent>grawity: good point
06:25<Cromulent>Zimsky: yeah I'll do that I think thanks
06:26<Zimsky>chart how they perform and once the difference in performance is negligible, stop there
06:26<Cromulent>OK I'll check out some PostgreSQL benchmarks then
06:27<Zimsky>I mean more like, run your full stack on them
06:27<Cromulent>oh I see
06:27<Cromulent>I could write a simple JavaScript test script that executes on my own custom backend
06:27<Cromulent>and stress tests it in a real world way
06:28<Cromulent>just simulate 50 users all chatting at the same time
06:29<Zimsky>yeah, just stimulate it

17:47<DrJ>mcintosh, I was just curious
17:47<DrJ>because currently linoe charges for backups based on plan size
17:47<DrJ>if you have block storage then the backups might have to back up more than the plan normally allocates for
17:48<dwfreed>I suspect the block storage wouldn't be covered by the backup service
17:49<DrJ>hmm, I would prefer to have onsite backups if I used them
17:49<DrJ>or at least snapshots
17:49<millisa>rackspace's setup doesn't. they have their imaging type backups that only covers the box; if you want the block store backed up, you use their other agent based backup service that charges you differently
17:49<DrJ>again, just curious. I'm sure all those details will come out when block storage arrives

19:39<@mcintosh>:) no problem
19:39<dwfreed>mcintosh: are those instructions generic and/or common enough that I can just stuff them in a linbot alias?
19:40<@mcintosh>they should work for people experiencing that libgudev error, specifically
19:40<@mcintosh>perhaps still useful enough for an alias?
19:40<millisa>(I'm curious about the root cause on that one, too; there's an official RH doc on it that shows the message coming up with networkmanager pre 1.0)
19:41<dwfreed>mcintosh: the way I read that, though, is that that's something you have in a textexpander already, which means it's come up often enough that you've needed to do that
19:43<@mcintosh>not often enough for a TE snippet but often enough that it's a documented fix
19:44<dwfreed>heh
19:44<@mcintosh>maybe we should just have an alias for "various networkmangler fixes" :p
