04:23<Zimsky>dcraig: yes
04:23<Zimsky>it was in
04:30<Ikaros>Man, inter-IRC network fights/arguments are so damn hard to deal with sometimes, especially when its between the owners of said networks. Sometimes it just feels like there's no proper solution to things that'll make everyone happy again.
04:30<Ikaros>-_-
04:30-!-code4hack [~code4hack@221.237.112.12] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
04:31-!-mode/#linode [+l 356] by ChanServ
04:32<dwfreed>Ikaros: I oper a network that at one point decided to merge with another network; a disagreement between the opers from my network and the opers from the network we joined resulted in me splitting it back into two networks again
04:33<Ikaros>I mean, if I side with the other network on an argument, I make my home network's owner furious and likely face either termination from staff or worse-case, full out network ban. If I side with my home network, then likely the owner of the other involved network will probably try and make my life as miserable as he can in any way possible.
04:34<Ikaros>Or third option: I walk away from it all.
04:34<nate>Ikaros: If you're an oper on a network that has an owner who would do shit like that just because you went against them, you should probably stop being an oper there and leave them alone
04:34<Ikaros>And delink everything I have linked all at once.
04:34<nate>lol
04:35<Ikaros>nate that's what's so difficult about it
04:35<Ikaros>I could very well just walk away.
04:35<Ikaros>But I would end up taking a huge portion of the network with me.
04:36<dwfreed>'salt "*" cmd.run poweroff'
04:36<dwfreed>:D
04:36<Ikaros>In other words I'd destroy everything I worked so hard to build up for them, to make it what it is now
04:36<Peng>dwfreed: Are you talking about Freenode and OFTC :D
04:36*Peng ducks
04:36<dwfreed>Peng: hah, no, they never merged
04:36<Ikaros>And that really isn't something I want to do
04:36<dwfreed>Peng: but OFTC still has a couple staffers that are or were freenode staffers
04:36<Ikaros>Like I did all that work just to tear it all down.
04:37<Ikaros>My current approach that is working so far...is to /quit, without a word. As if to say "I refuse to be a part of this"
04:39<Ikaros>I mean, we've been botnetted over one of those inter-network disputes before - someone on staff texts me they're getting botnetted like 3 in the morning or something, I'll be like "And? Who caused that in the first place? GL"
04:39<dwfreed>lol
04:40<Ikaros>Sure, you laugh now, but the way I saw it, it was the direct result of a dispute I said I would have no part in so by extension, I would have no part in attempting to fend off said bots.
04:41<Ikaros>I mean this is pretty much the attitude I've taken since coming on board there years ago, when things were a lot, lot more peaceful and I didn't have to do much of anything.

04:41-!-marshmn is "Matt Marsh" on #linode
04:42<Ikaros>I mean sure even today if it's just some random botnet hitting for an unknown reason or one we can't attribute directly to anything, I'll jump my ass out of bed and help
04:42<Ikaros>But if that came out of a dispute, I'll be like "I don't care." and go "Zzzzzz"
04:42-!-mode/#linode [+l 357] by ChanServ
04:42<Ikaros>You reap what you sow.
04:44<Ikaros>dwfreed you think maybe it's because out of all the years I've done oper work (on one network or another) I'm just growing tired of it overall, like in general?
04:44<dwfreed>yep, that's about right
04:44<dwfreed>"gettin' real tired of your shit"
04:49<Ikaros>I mean that one network, it's not like I have a bunch of red tape. Only bit of that is I just can't do what an owner can do, and that's to say that's not too much more. Directly underneath him matter of fact in the hierarchy. It's not that I'm feeling oppressed or restricted. I suppose maybe I just feel that the guy I'm supposed to be directly answering to, should act and treat things a lot more like a network owner should be.
04:54<Ikaros>And then of course I get questioned about my sour attitude, and there's that part of me that wants to just tell him off - I wouldn't be HAVING those problems if everyone was on the same page and we handled things like disputes properly instead of taking brash actions that usually result in some sort of retaliation. I'm much more conservative in my approach. He's the polar opposite. This causes internal clashes.
05:00<Ikaros>I suppose I have a lot of things to think about now...which I'll just sleep on it now.

21:20<Peng>Why the heck do you have almost 1.5 million files? Do you *want* to have almost 1.5 million files?
21:20<microvb>this was a standard deb install from pre-made linode one
21:20<Peng>It didn't come with 1.5 million files.
21:21<microvb>thats the thing --- i don't hahaha

21:29<Peng>Okay, drill down into /var next
21:29<FluffyFoxeh>Docker also consumes a shit ton of inodes
21:30<microvb>ewww... something in /var/spool/ :S
21:33<linbot>New news from forum: General Discussion • How to reset build number in jenkins? <https://forum.linode.com/viewtopic.php?t=14842&p=73613#p73613>
21:34<microvb>found the culprits
21:34<microvb>https://www.irccloud.com/pastebin/GEsAvA19/
21:34<microvb>i dunno if i can nuke those folders or what lol
21:36<retro|blah>exim4???
21:37<Peng>Do you read your email? Do you want to?
21:39<microvb>millions ? hahaha... no way. i don't even care about email on/from that box, so no idea why so much
21:39<microvb>retro|blah: it was forced as part of GitLab
21:40<FluffyFoxeh>what is surprising about exim4?
21:40<Peng>Output from cron jobs, perhaps?
21:40<Peng>If there's some job running every minute...
21:40<microvb>apparently i need this to delete crap in msglog ... > `for i in `ls`; do exim -Mrm $i; done`
21:41<microvb>must ... kill.... beast. clearly the cron is excessive :S thats just stuff from Feb 4'th apparently
21:41<Peng>I'm just guessing...

21:44<Peng>There are a number of places for cron jobs to be specified
21:44<Peng>And i was just guessing.
21:46<microvb>no no... i was just checking on the idea to see if I could stop it there quickly. :)
21:46<microvb>and i thought all cron jobs were listed in crontab -e ... hehe
21:51<zifnab>its one thing to tell children 'stop playing on my patio, you're upsetting the cat'
21:51<zifnab>and i'm entirely ok with that
21:51<zifnab>its another thing to tell a couple of adults to gtfo because they're sitting outside my window arguing about shit
21:51<zifnab>...in other news: security guards for this place are stupidly nice
21:52<zifnab>got a 'fuck off we live here too' from the adults
21:53<microvb>you could have responded with "not for long" :)
21:53<zifnab>...yes, but you see the bit of the patio you're sitting on? that you have to cross a rock bed to get into? or climb over a planter? thats mine. go away.
21:53<zifnab>eh
21:53<zifnab>arbitrary conflicts with people i don't know, 'fuck off we live here' was enough for me to say 'ok', shut the window, and call security
21:54<Eugene>I would have just gone out naked
21:54<zifnab>Eugene: well, i could do worse, i haven't sent those underwear back yet
21:54<Eugene>Heh
21:54<zifnab>(amazon probably sent me the wrong thing, same brand, much less fabric)
21:56<zifnab>Eugene: are we doing food or am i cooking pizza
21:56<Eugene>"Yeah, we'll do food"
21:56<zifnab>be up in a few?
21:57<Eugene>I'm not sure if hannerz is wearing anything
21:57<zifnab>tell her to fix that and i'll come help cook
21:57<Eugene>She's around here somewhere
21:58<microvb>in the kitchen ?
21:58<zifnab>who knows
21:59<zifnab>Eugene: i guess lmk when she has clothes
21:59<Eugene>In the cloud
21:59<Eugene>Sure
21:59<zifnab>i'm bored
21:59<microvb>there is no cloud, it's just other peoples computers
21:59<zifnab>i'm refactoring python shit to actually go into modules, ran into a flask bug, and am trying to track it down
21:59<Eugene>She appears to have found a dress
21:59<zifnab>ah, k, be up in a few
