10:16<cbirk>why on earth would you want to run windows on anything
10:16<cbirk>loaded up windows 10 to game over the weekend and was absolutely disgusted
10:19<ponas>oh I run windows 10 on my desktop
10:19<ponas>works pretty well
10:19<ponas>it's even better now that I can ditch cygwin for WSL
10:22<Peng>Windows: The best GNU/Linux distribution
10:23<ponas>with full support for all PC games!
10:24<dwfreed>there are PC games that don't run on Windows

10:38<dwfreed>caker: so, uh, how's block storage coming? :3
10:38<FluffyFoxeh>I don't even have a windows install anymore
10:42<FluffyFoxeh>yeah cbirk I was going to "upgrade" my windows 7 VM to windows 10 to see what it was like. I got the license key from my school's free MS keys thing, got sidetracked, ended up deleting the Windows 7 VM to free some space, and never replaced it
10:43<nbrewer>Windows 10 looks nice enough
10:43<cbirk>its garbage
10:43<nbrewer>probably because it looks almost exactly like KDE to me though
10:43<cbirk>it has a scumbag air of paypal where if you click certain menu items it brings up windows xp looking menus
10:43<cbirk>for instance: making changes to your mouse configuration
10:44<cbirk>in other words, they didnt even make their entire UI fluid, it is hodgepodged together
10:45<FluffyFoxeh>also I get the sense that microsoft doesn't really want me touching anything. can't turn off updates, options resetting themselves automatically

10:45<FluffyFoxeh>that's more of a dealbreaker for me, I don't like to feel like I'm fighting against the OS
10:46-!-mode/#linode [+l 356] by ChanServ
10:46<dwfreed>yeah, that would probably drive me nuts too
10:46<Peng>Microsoft infosec probably doesn't like fighting people who turn off updates ;P
10:46<dwfreed>some people turn those things off for a reason
10:46<FluffyFoxeh>well Peng I wouldn't have to if they didn't insist on doing stupid ass updates like graphics drivers without asking
10:47<FluffyFoxeh>I never touch drivers if they work properly, because it's usually a good way to have them not work properly anymore
10:47<Peng>Yeah, need those old, crashy and inefficient graphics drivers!
10:47<FluffyFoxeh>you know, regressions do exist
10:47<Peng>Point taken, but i'm sure there's a graph on the big board showing how the new driver lowers BSODs and power consumption on average.
10:47<FluffyFoxeh>:p
10:47<Peng>Yeah
10:49<nbrewer>if the big board's graphics drivers haven't been updated recently
10:49<FluffyFoxeh>or if they're testing use cases that differ from mine
10:49<cbirk>yeah FluffyFoxeh - you can set the default browser to 'Chrome' but if you run a search via Lametana it opens Microshaft Edge
10:49<FluffyFoxeh>and my use case actually got worse
10:50<nbrewer>you don't want to use MS edgelord as your browser? what about cortana integration?
10:50<@caker>dwfreed: really good, actually. Soon<tm>
10:50<FluffyFoxeh>on Linux I contribute testing and fixes to the open source drivers. I've given huge FPS boosts to a couple games
10:51<FluffyFoxeh>and I actually have a lot of fun doing stuff like that
10:51<FluffyFoxeh>and it's nice that it's possible
11:08<ponas>cortana is basically a non-feature since it's region locked

14:48<devs>alright thanks. A few friends and I are running a small game server, it depends though in a high clock speed, since the server application is single threaded. 2.5 ghz is really a minimum. It's fine if the cpu has a good single thread rating, which the xeon e5-2680 has.

20:35<MrPPS>Spajjie: as in, you want your Linode to be able to send emails to a ticketing system?
20:36<MrPPS>Is your linode already a mail server (does it need to be)? or will the ticketing system just need to be able to receive alerts from your linode?

21:28<tony>Yes,
21:28<tony>Failed Lassie initiated boot: My CentOS 6.5 Profile
21:29<tony>My Host Job Queue show teo failed
21:29<@mcintosh>that message is something that usually coincides with a host maintenance - do you have another ticket open from Linode on your Manager account?

21:31<tony>Minute before
21:31<tony>Y饿死,
21:31<tony>Yes
21:31<@mcintosh>based on the magento error, it's possible simply starting (or restarting) your database software service will revive the sitee

22:57<caw_>i have pre-sales questions to linode
22:57-!-mode/#linode [+l 360] by ChanServ
22:58<caw_>anybody can help?
23:00<Ikaros>Just ask.
23:00<Zimsky>Ikaros: what is the length of your left nipple?
23:01*Ikaros throws Zimsky out a window
23:01<Zimsky>impossible
23:01<Zimsky>I cannot be defenestrated
23:01<caw_>linode vs fastcomet (i know fastcomet resell linode services) -- fastcomet support is better?
23:02<Zimsky>linode is better
23:02<Zimsky>linode is always better
23:02<Eman>unless fastcomet has some sort of low level agreement with linode, they're just putting in tickets on your behalf
23:03<caw_>:) i asking because want migrate from amazon to.... why - because i tired with hand made work and want to save time -- and put some issues into support
23:04<Zimsky>unless you're on a managed plan, whatever you put on your vm is up to you to sort out
23:05<caw_>yes my first choice was linode - but some people say - fastcomet have free suport and do all very fast.... on any plans
23:06<Ikaros>"free support"...you get what you pay for, is my warning to you.
23:07<Zimsky>Ikaros: I know an ebay seller that would disprove that statement
23:07<caw_> i ready to pay -- want to do not touch servers anymore :) by my hands -
23:07<Ikaros>Then how else would you learn?
23:09<caw_>ok -- thank you -- last question -- on paid plans (not trial) in linode somebody know response time of support
23:09<Ikaros>USUALLY fairly fast.
23:09<Ikaros>Depends on load
23:09<caw_>in amazon - 24 hours
23:10<Ikaros>Think longest I waited for a ticket resolution was...maybe 20-25 min or so? I couldn't say for sure, I haven't had to open a ticket in a long time.
23:10<caw_>ok - i understood - many thanks Ikaros! i go to learn power of linode :)
