00:27<josh>ok
00:28<josh>so what's the status of the v4 api?
00:28-!-mode/#linode [+l 362] by ChanServ
00:28<millisa>i'm using it to monitor the state of my linode backups?
00:29<josh>I'm trying to add support for linode to my app for creating servers for my customers, but when I create an app in linode and make the http request to authenticate, I get 400 error
00:30<josh>https://login.linode.com/oauth/authorize?client_id=client_id
00:30<millisa>are you using curl to test the stuff out?
00:30<josh>When I follow that flow with proper params, I get 400 but if I log out I get prompted to login then 400
00:30<josh>This is the url I redirect my users to, not a curl request.
00:31<josh>This url presents my users to authorize my application access to their accounts.
00:36<dwfreed>400 means you're not forming the request properly; see https://developers.linode.com/v4/access
00:40<josh>doh, getting late and been staring at this computer too long today, I was passing the app secret and not the id
00:40<josh>Thanks dwfreed
00:42<dwfreed>you should delete that app and make a new one, as your app secret isn't really secure anymore
00:42<josh>yeah I plan on refreshing the secret
00:42<josh>a few times actually
00:42<josh>Just testing stuff out right now.

03:34<Archon810>Hi, I filed a ticket already but curious if someone from support is here to advise
03:34<Archon810>I had a large migration from Linode 64G to 82G, and it failed
03:35-!-mode/#linode [+l 359] by ChanServ
03:35<Archon810>took only 9 minutes to do so, then there is a mix of success and fail messages, and now it says I'm on the new Linode size, except the disk migration failed, so I am at a loss as to what to do
03:35<Archon810>here's a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/nep0Pnh.png

03:37<Peng>That's definitely a ticket one. o_o
03:37<Archon810>:S
03:37<Archon810>3 similar migrations succeeded, then this one failed so spectacularly
03:37<Peng>If there are staff on IRC now, they'd probably just refer you back to the ticket.
03:37<Archon810>I'm hoping this won't mean an all-nighter
03:38<Peng>I'd guess "how long it takes them to update the ticket" + 15 minutes.
03:38<Archon810>I mean the resolution, not just a response from Linode
03:47<arlen>could try calling

04:03<MrPPS>ouch Archon810 :/
04:03<MrPPS>never seen one fail yet
04:03<MrPPS>that hurts
04:03<Peng>It'll probably be fine, i think.
04:03<Peng>But... yeah.
04:07<Archon810>got word from support, they've reconfigured the migration and now the main disk will go from server A to C, and swap from B to C
04:07<Archon810>no data loss is expected, they think it's a one-time fault
04:08<Archon810>it went past the previous fail state already, so I'm hopeful

08:41<skyfaller>hi folks, at some point the firewall rules needed for Longview changed, and I just updated mine to match the docs. Is there any way to force a Longview refresh so I can be sure that it's working now?
08:44<@armiller>skyfaller: When you say refresh longview do you mean restart it? You should be able to use `service longview stop` and `service longview start`
08:45<skyfaller>armiller: I meant some way to make sure that it's actually communicating with Linode. The service appears to be running fine on my server

08:47<@armiller>skyfaller: To make sure its posting successfully you should check `/var/log/linode/longview.log`. If everything is good on your end it should have a `200 OK` message for each post.
08:47<@armiller>It is possible that there may be something going awry in the Longview server. You would have to open a ticket to get help with that though
08:49<skyfaller>armiller: When I look the logs for today it just says "Starting Longview Agent version 1.1.5", loads some modules, then "Start up complete".
08:49<skyfaller>no error or success
08:51<@armiller>skyfaller: You may have to start it with the debug paramater in order for it to log each post
08:51<skyfaller>well, nevermind, it looks like we're collecting data at last. The webpage says "This graph isn't quite ready yet. Almost done!"
08:51<@armiller>If you are running Ubuntu/Debian `/etc/init.d/longview debug` should work
08:52<skyfaller>thank you for your help armiller :)
08:52<@armiller>np, glad to hear its posting :)

22:00<glickity>DanielNM: if i use a self signed cert will the browser throw a crappy warning message when i visit the pgae?
22:00<glickity>page
22:00<DanielNM>Most likely
22:01<DanielNM>Get a free Let's Encrypt cert
22:02<glickity>where do i get those?
22:03<glickity>coool
22:03<glickity>i just googled it
22:03<millisa>https://www.linode.com/docs/security/ssl/install-lets-encrypt-to-create-ssl-certificates
22:03<glickity>:)
22:04<DanielNM>(:
22:04<glickity>what the hell. why do others charge like over 150/year for the same thing?!
22:05<millisa>LE won't do wildcards (but you can add on lots of subject alt names)
22:05<millisa>some place like paying for the extra green bar stuff
22:05<millisa>(banks still seem to enjoy that)
22:06<millisa>and something about site walruses.
22:06<millisa>wait, no . .site seals.
22:08<dwfreed>millisa: LE is adding wildcards by next year
22:08<millisa>as long as they add in site walruses, I'm ok with it
22:09<millisa>(the wildcards are exciting though)
22:09<dwfreed>https://letsencrypt.org//2017/07/06/wildcard-certificates-coming-jan-2018.html
22:09<millisa>it'll make my scripts even *lazier*
22:10<millisa>well, maybe not. says they will only be doing it via dns validation initially (which makes sense).
22:11<dwfreed>DNS is easy, though
22:12<millisa>just have to work around the 15 min publish timer...
22:12<DanielNM>thanks for that link, dwfreed. Good news

22:17<Alfian>Help :(
22:17<millisa>Alfian - this is a community chat. official support is via the ticket.
22:18<millisa>But, Linodes are billed whether they are powered on or off.
22:19<dcraig>if you close/terminate your account, I imagine you no longer have access to your linodes
22:19<dcraig>is there really a need to close the account?
22:20<dcraig>an account with no linodes doesn't cost anything
22:22<Alfian>ya its my problem, I am forget to reply ticket ann now linode want I go to another provider :(
22:23<Alfian>but please dont close now :3
22:23<Alfian>give me time
22:23<Alfian>pleaseeeee, I have big problem.
22:23<dwfreed>just update the ticket if you need more time
22:23<dcraig>how'd you end up in this mess? :D
22:25<Alfian>Hi there, Yes, your entire account will be canceled on 10 July 2017, so all of your servers will be removed at that time. It would be best if you utilized the remaining time to copy any data you need from those Linodes as it will be unavailable to you after 10 July. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Regards, Brittany
22:26<Alfian>:(
22:26<Alfian>I use server for shared hosting
22:26<millisa>one of my customer got a ticket from her on Friday. she was on a *rampage*!
22:27<dcraig>well, the 10th is still a day or two away...
22:28<dcraig>"reach out" seems a bit trite
22:28<Alfian>The problem is my files 2 TB :3
22:29<glickity>should i use certbot with the --webroot and -nginx options?
22:29<glickity>or just webroot or just nginx
22:29<Alfian>and I have 5 VM
22:29<Alfian>:( :( :(
22:29<millisa>you can push 2TB from linode in less than that

22:37<arlen>probably
22:37<millisa>i don't use the nginx switch with certbot, just the webroot; but I setup the certs in the config on my own
