02:57<Ikaros>Heh. So I find Equifax truly does suck at web infrastructure/management...
02:58<Ikaros>Someone told me they tried to sign up for that complimentary BS they tried to shove...and the link they were pointed to, to complete that process, gave them a CloudFront page with the message 'Request blocked.'
03:05<nate>Ikaros: So are several AV vendors (such as avast).
03:06<nate>Word came out that the system that was all running on had it's own security issues
03:07<nate>Though it's also worth noting there's been a SLEW of typo-variants of the original domain registered as well, all getting blocked
03:07<nate>make sure you were being pointed at the right one

03:14<Ikaros>I wasn't the one visiting, myself. I was provided a screenshot of it and I went and verified it myself by starting at the Equifax main webpage->to the cyber-incident page->to the page they link you to to enroll.
03:15<Ikaros>Heh, even DomainTools gets 403'd.
03:17<Ikaros>nate: https://whois.domaintools.com/trustedidpremier.com lulz they (equifax) really suck at this, can't even lock a domain properly, let alone configure a site correctly.

05:00<Ziriax>Hello, I'm struggling a bit with getting the Node Balancer working. Our nodes use nginx, serving only static content. I get a 503 when going to the node balancer. I guess the nginx config should be change to accept request from the load balancer. Does anyone have guidelines for doing this? PS: I'm a complete noob in this field, coming from Windows, but eager to learn :)

09:09<grawity>I'm guessing the galleries and comments and stuff, minus the people
09:10<phlux>Well, I essentially want a 'gallery' site without the community, that I can use my existing bash scripts to upload to
09:11<phlux>For example, I have keybinds for certain screenshots that will automatically upload the screenshot to a location on my linode, send the url to my clipboard, and give me a little notification that shows the url
09:11<phlux>It would be nice if I could put something together to properly display them in a gallery-like setting instead of nginx's directory tree view.
09:11<rsdehart>so you don't need comments and such?
09:11<rsdehart>there are lots of galleries around

12:05<grawity>what mods, they've yet to upgrade from phpBB 2.x
12:05<Schroeder>Woet: what's wrong with that?
12:05<Schroeder>that way the answer's there for someone who searches the forum
12:06<Schroeder>how might have the same question
12:08<@mcintosh>Woet: an anti bump mod? literally nothing has ever been less important
12:08<smallclone>i would say that's way less of an issue than the spam
12:08<Woet>mcintosh: true, you're still working on fixing that spam for over a year
12:08<Woet>i never said it was priority #1
12:08<Woet>just add it to the long list of tasks labeled "abandoned forum"
12:10<smallclone>should probably just switch to discourse or something
12:11<smallclone>though it is fun going down memory lane to like 2005 or whenever phpbb boards last looked like that.
12:11<grawity>well, yeah, 3.0 was released in 2007 or so
12:11<Woet>i mean, phpBB has been EOL since 2009
12:11<Woet>lol
12:12<grawity>EOL? they did a release just last month
12:12<Woet>of the 2.0 branch?
12:12<grawity>you didn't specify *that*
12:12<Woet>i mean, that was the context
12:13<Woet>but yes, I did mean the version Linode was running
12:13<@mcintosh>linode forums are not running 2.0 branch
12:16<Woet>so its 3.0 with the default theme of 2.0 for whatever reason?

15:13<smallclone>ping lintest-frankfurt.linode.com
15:14<Guest4916>from frankfurt to 208.69.117.43:443
15:14<Guest4916>not from where I am
15:14<smallclone>i dunno, there's websites that perform ping tests from different locations..or you could spin up a frankfurt linode for a couple of minutes and just do it yourself
15:15<Guest4916>how do I find out the ping time from frankfurt to 208.69.117.43:443....IE run a ping from frankfurt is their some place to do that on linode site?
15:15<smallclone>no
15:15<smallclone>what i just told you
15:15<dwfreed>wtb linode looking glass
15:16<dwfreed>dspataro: ^^^
15:17<smallclone>also you can't ping a port..you should use nc or i guess telnet or something
15:17<Guest4916>needs to be a way to put in a ip number and have it return the pings from all the datacenters so you know what would be the best data center to locate the vm in....
15:17<Guest4916>ip number returns I just forget to take of the port number
15:18<smallclone>if you have access to 208.69.117.43 just go on that and run mtr -rw lintest-frankfurt and you'll get a rough idea
15:18<Guest4916>that is the end point
15:19<smallclone>otherwise, just spin up a linode there and spend not maybe..a cent? on finding this out for sure
15:19<Guest4916>I need to find the lowest ping to that number see if I can find under 10ms on linode locations
15:19<smallclone>well have at it then
15:22<Guest4916>that is not making any since...."well have at it then"
15:23<smallclone>what i mean is
15:23<smallclone>they do not offer a way to do that. you either need to spin up linodes and do the pings yourself or paypal me an outrageous amount of money to do it for you
15:24<Guest4916>that is stupid
15:24<Guest4916>This is simple things that a vendor should be able to provide
15:25<smallclone>i don't disagree that it'd be a nice feature for them to have on the website, but the bottom line is that they don't

16:10<millisa>before i go looking through my filther perl-curl - has anything changed with the api in the last couple hours? (or maybe something with the api keys, unless I'm confused, it looks like they are gone?)
16:10<millisa>s/filter/filthy/
16:11<dwfreed>millisa: APIv3 or v4?
16:11<millisa>when I look under 'my profile', 'api keys' tab, there doesn't appear to be any keys listed there now.
16:12<millisa>looks like I wrote it with the v4 api
16:13<millisa>it started with some accounts around 1:44p EDT, and over the next ~30 mins, the rest of my accounts all started failing on the same type of check.
16:13<millisa>I haven't found any of the accounts that still have api keys listed in them
16:14<millisa>as far as I know, I hadn't setup any of them to expire

16:15<millisa>my personal account, does still have its api keys.
16:15<dwfreed>odd
16:15<dwfreed>I blame peaton
16:15<millisa>I don't know that this isn't something boneheaded I did when setting these up, but of the three accounts that I know that are failing now, I'm nearly certain I didn't set them up at the same time
16:16-!-mode/#linode [+l 348] by ChanServ
16:25<@mcintosh>millisa: they expire in 6 months by default... if you made them all around the same time, that could explain it
16:25<millisa>so the 'expires: Never' isn't really never?
16:27<@mcintosh>if it was set to never it should be never (it's default 6 months in the dropdown via cloud.linode.com, now, though)
16:27<millisa>(I was looking in the old manager for the api keys for those accounts, so that mystery can be marked off)
16:28<@mcintosh>ah yeah, auth for apiv4 and apiv3 is totally separate (I can see the confusion though)
16:28<millisa>still not sure why my linode backup api check is failing; I'll dig into my filthy perl to get a real question.
16:28<millisa>(they are all claiming the server name I was trying to match on doesn't exist. for all I know I have a stupid perl mistake)
16:28<dwfreed>there were PRs about various API changes to the manager that were closed today
16:29<dwfreed>so they may have broke the API
16:29<dwfreed>(by broke I mean made a backwards incompatible change)
16:29<millisa>would definitely fit what I'm seeing
16:29<@mcintosh>if I could see the perl I could confirm y/n but yeah there are probably breaking changes
16:30<millisa>I'm not that cruel
16:37<millisa>https://developers.linode.com/v4/reference/endpoints/linode/instances <-- something here doesn't look like it's matching now
16:38<millisa>i don't see "total_pages" or "total_results" anymore
16:38<millisa>and instead of "linodes" it appears to have "data"
16:42<millisa>I think I have this sanitized enough - this is what it's currently coming back with with a curl request
16:42<millisa>https://vomitb.in/qb9DejBYro
16:42<millisa>line 6, 112, and 113 don't appear to match what they were yesterday or with the docs.
16:42<@mcintosh>yeah the structure of the json output (among other things) was changed
16:43<millisa>intentional? (before I go through updating scripts)
16:43<@mcintosh>yes - the docs needs to be updated as weell
16:43<@mcintosh>sorry :\
16:43<millisa>alright, works for me
16:44<millisa>script is updated, and now everything is wonderful and green again.

21:55<Peng>2017-09-11? Sounds like the hurricane then
21:56<millisa>it was right about as the last part of it was passing over atlanta
21:57<Peng>Didn't occur to me at the time. I assumed Zayo would manage to survive a hurricane that had been weakened by the Caribbean and almost the entire state of Florida.
21:57<Peng>Do they fall over every time there is a stiff breeze.
21:57<Peng>I started worrying a few days later but figured it would probably have been ok
21:57<Peng>Oh well

21:59<Peng>And Newark has had a power event or two too. :P

22:29<@rsyracuse>While we can't guarantee 100% uptime on any of our datacenters I know a lot of our customers who need the absolute maximum level of uptime have configured some high availability solutions between two different datacenters so they almost always have a working backend in the event that one goes down. If that's something you might be interested in I'd recommend reaching out to our support staff and
22:29<@rsyracuse>we'd be happy to let you know in more detail exactly how this could be configured

22:37<@rsyracuse>I do understand that any downtime can be a frustrating situation. We work hard to maintain 99% uptime on all of our datacenters, however I did just want to reach out to let you know how you might diminish this potential downtime even further. That being said, have you gotten the chance to open up a support ticket with us yet? I think it's possible that we may be able to offer some more specific
