06:43*tanja84dk also found out that intel have stopped support for the bios so yeah looks like the computer cant be trusted anymore
06:50<@jleal>ouch, yea theres no guarantee that intel has released microcode for your particular cpu despite having an update to the package. Theres quite a few people in similar situations unfortunately
06:55<tanja84dk>guess I have to look into amd about server builds
06:56<@jhaas>isn't effectively every current processor vulnerable to spectre to some extent?
06:56<tanja84dk>because unfortunally It looks like the complete pc need to be replaces even that its even overkill and good enough for today
06:57<tanja84dk>yes and no some arm is not and what I have heard then on arm then the "attacker" need to be at the machine to take advantage
06:58<tanja84dk>I ment amd in the last part of the message
06:59<tanja84dk>where intel should be a huge issue. And ether fixed with a cpu swap, maybe bios update etc
06:59<tanja84dk>that is what I have heard
07:00<nate>Pretty sure intel just released like 25~ years worth of microcode updates
07:01<nate>your main problem is if you're on windows you're only gonna get them directly if you're on 7 or up, otherwise you'll have to see if intel has a tool out yet for the older platforms
07:01<tanja84dk>nate its my ubuntu server and true they did but its not looking great still
07:02<tanja84dk>nate, The server is still vulnerble to Spectre Variant 1 and Spectre Variant 2 even after that patch
07:02<nate>They could have simply stuck to updating only the processors they consider still within lifecycle support
07:04<nate>Well variant 1 is meltdown I believe? That you need the kernel update for, that's an OS level fix
07:04<tanja84dk>nate, but my windows pc there is my gaming and work pc is windows 10 and tbh I have not checked that yet if that is still vulnerble
07:04<tanja84dk>no that is Variant 3
07:05<nate>As long as you're getting automatic updates it shouldn't be, windows 10 got the update automatically on day one at least for meltdown
07:05<nate>as for the basic spectre stuff, that I don't know if Intel rolled out to MS yet
07:06<tanja84dk>nate https://github.com/speed47/spectre-meltdown-checker here is a tester with screenshoots where you are able to see what each Variant is

07:22<tanja84dk>nate, btw have just found out that spectre 1 and 2 need a bios firmware upgrade

07:23<nate>*believe

08:20<@jleal>Intel hasn't exactly made it easy to identify if your chip has received microcode updates yet other than attempting to use the newest bundle to see if you got anything. You can check the revision of your microcode with `cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep microcode` however without a frame of reference from the old version of the package its difficult to say for certain.

22:20<rkrdolnx>my linode status show: Phase Complete Additional Maintenance is Pending
22:20<rkrdolnx>my linode is not accesible and my clients are offline.
22:20<rkrdolnx>this problem have 6 hours...
22:21<rkrdolnx>someone have a solution for the problem?
22:21<rkrdolnx>sorry for my english....
22:21<nate>"Maintenance is pending" seems like a pretty clear statement. You may wish to file a ticket however, this is largely a community support/chat channel
22:21<dwfreed>could you share a screenshot of where you see that message?
22:24<rkrdolnx>@nate I understand... but 6 hours ago my linode is inaccesible and linode support dont response... someone have the same problem... 6 hours is very much tim
22:26<rkrdolnx>@dwfreed the image: https://pasteboard.co/H2FStKA.png
22:27<dwfreed>oh, that's new
22:27<dwfreed>anyway, try booting the Linode?

22:32<rkrdolnx>@dwfreed... yes I tried multiple times...
22:32<rkrdolnx>is very strange that linode support not answered my tickets...
22:32<dwfreed>i would recommend calling
22:33<rkrdolnx>@dwfreed thank you very much
22:33<millisa>fwiw - one of mine had its scheduled maintenance about 16 hours ago - it restarted and came back in about 5 mins. but the maintenance status column still shows 'In Progress' and the ticket about it hasn't had an update.
22:35<rkrdolnx>@millisa In my case the maitenances status is stalled in "Additional Maintenance is Pending" and the linode not boot...
22:36<millisa>i wasn't up to watch it go through the different phases to know if that's something mine went through or not.
22:39<millisa>what does your host job queue show when you try to boot it? and are you able to connect via lish and see it booting when you try?
22:43<rkrdolnx>@millisa... yes I tried!
22:43<rkrdolnx>I called to Linode and support is checking my problem.
22:43<rkrdolnx>Thank you guys..
22:43<rkrdolnx>:)

22:51<millisa>someone may find this of interest - what it shows when your maintenance is upcoming: https://ibin.co/3o0vvBN5Eorg.png
22:52<millisa>this shows one that happened about 17 hours ago but is stuck 'In Progress': https://ibin.co/3o0wCykYT6lM.png (of some interest, the job queue just shows host initiating restart and then the very next entry is lassie failing to boot it because it was already running)
