00:40<Nana>I need a service for at lest 10 computers to browse( like 1080p youtube video) at the same time. which plan suits me?
00:40<Woet>Nana: why do you need a service like that?
00:40<millisa>Either the smallest or one that is larger. It's easy to resize linodes if you find they need to be bigger.
00:41<Woet>Nana: and you know Linode sells Linux VPSes right? not "computers".
00:41<Nana>for business, like foreign trade
00:42<Woet>..?

00:43<millisa>I got bingo
00:44<Woet>Nana: i wasn't asking "give me a bunch of buzz words that give managers a hard on"
00:44<Woet>Nana: I asked why do you need a service like that
00:44<millisa>Nana: the smallest linode caps at 1000 Mbps outbound; it's possible you could get a dozen 1080p streams in that, but much of it would depend on codecs/software used. We wouldn't really be able to guess.
00:47<Nana>ok, i understand. i 'll ask for more information from my superior.
00:48<Nana>sad……i' m not the one to use it. thank you for

01:05<Nana>now, i know. i just hope to establish ss on a vps, to browse foreign websites from china. i dont need to build a website or too much software on that vps. what i need is just a good speed for about 10 computers/client-sides using that ss.
01:06<Nana>which plan suits me?
01:07<Woet>[12:40:50] <millisa> Either the smallest or one that is larger. It's easy to resize linodes if you find they need to be bigger.

01:09<millisa>well, and potentially none of them.
01:09<millisa>You can use the speedtest to see what kind of download rates you get from some of the datacenters - https://www.linode.com/speedtest
01:09<Woet>Nana: are you sure you know how to manage a Linux VPS?
01:09<Woet>Nana: because your questions suggest otherwise
01:09<millisa>that might at least give you some idea of where to try out what you want to do

13:27<nyancat>Got a question. I own a domain pointed at Linode nameservers. The domain expired and while I was renewing it I transferred to namecheap. I've confirmed that the domain is now active, is pointing at Linode nameservers, but for some reason NOTHING on the domain resolves anymore
13:27<nyancat>every dig command I throw at the domain results in 'servfail'
13:29<smccabe>hey nyancat, whats the domain?
13:29<nyancat>ext3.net
13:32<smccabe>huh, gives me the same issue. How long ago did you point namecheap at our nameservers
13:32<nyancat>It's been a while, but not very long
13:33<nyancat>even still, I should be able to get a response for the old nameservers that it had
13:38<smccabe>yeah, its just failing to resolve. I don't see any entries even pointing towards our name servers, which is strange. Wonder if Namecheap hasn't put it thru entirely yet
13:38<@mcintosh>nyancat: do you have the domain added in the DNS Manager?
13:39<Peng_>!dns6 ext3.net
13:39<linbot>Peng_: All nameservers failed to answer the query ext3.net. IN A: Server ::1 UDP port 53 answered SERVFAIL
13:39<nyancat>mcintosh: It's in the linode manager, has been active for years
13:39<Peng_>Strange for Linode to return SERVFAIL.
13:39<Peng_>Linode would return REFUSED if the zone doesn't exist...
13:40<Peng_>nyancat: In the Linode manager, is it a master or slave domain?
13:40<nyancat>it's a master
13:40<nate>I'm technically the zone owner for that and it's still on the account, and the master behind them is functional, but even at that linode would be still giving the cached records I'd assume
13:41<Peng_>Are there active Linodes on the account? I'm not sure what it does when that isn't the case.
13:41<Peng_>Linode doesn't know or care if the domain expires...
13:41<@mcintosh>"the master behind them is functional"?
13:41<nate>mcintosh: It's setup so linode are the slaves but the public facing (ie; a hidden master that pushes updates to linode)
13:44<@mcintosh>hmm
13:45<nate>unfortunately it looks like there's still no way to view records 'stored' on linode when they're slaved
13:45*nate tries to push a new update from master
13:46<nate>Did linode nameserver IPv4's change sometime semi-recently? o.O
13:47<Peng_>Which ones?
13:47<Peng_>nsX.linode.com changed from Linode's IPs to Cloudflare's IPs some years back.
13:47<Peng_>Linode's IPs are axfrX.linode.com now. Some of their IPv4 addresses have changed over time.
13:48<nate>Ah, maybe that's the problem? The master is still pointing at all of the old ns* record IPs, maybe it caused an issue since they couldn't sync anymore?
13:48<Peng_>Most of the old IPs haven't changed for years.
13:48<nate>Or maybe not, it's the same IP's still listed on the docs page for setting up linode as slaves
13:49<nate>hmph
13:49<Peng_>Dallas's IPv4 IP really did change semi-recently.
13:50<Peng_>But the other IPv4 IPs and the IPv6 IPs have been the same for years now.
13:51<Peng_>If you dynamically resolve the nsX.linode.com hostnames, it should've broken like 2 years ago when they changed to Cloudflare.
13:52<Peng_>And Dallas's IPv4 IP did change. But the others have been the same for 6+ years.
13:52<nate>nah I had them set to the IP's from the docs
13:54<nate>Well I "re-saved" the linode DNS page and re-sync'd from the master itself, still a servfail so guess I'll have to poke them in a ticket to see what their side says as my logs look okay
13:54<nate>well actually I'll wait a few minutes, 15 minute 'cycle' and all
13:55<Peng_>Shouldn't take 15 minutes to start working.
13:55<Peng_>I think.
13:55<nate>no idea, but I might as well wait the 5~ minutes just so I can say I did lol
13:56<nyancat>2:47:56 PM <Peng_> Linode's IPs are axfrX.linode.com now
13:56<nyancat>https://www.linode.com/docs/networking/dns/dns-manager-overview/
13:56<nyancat>Oh I see what you mean. Never mind. Carry on
