04:43<Peng>At first, they will probably charge you $50 mid-month, and $30 on the first of the month.
04:43<Peng>After a while, they will charge $80 once a month. Or maybe if you contact support.

10:23<mav_>hello there, I have upgraded my php5 to version php7.2, but when I dismod the old version and enable the php7,2, my sites goes down with error 500. what could be the possible solution for this?
10:23<mav_>my server's running with ubuntu 14.04 by the way

10:25<mav_>a little help anyone
10:26<Woet>mav_: so you're running an EOL PHP version on an soon-EOL distro
10:26<Woet>thats always fun
10:26<Woet>mav_: did you read the bottom sentence of the 500 error?
10:27<mav_>2secs, I'm going to take a look
10:28<mav_>no other than 'unable to handle this request'
10:29<mav_>this was the error i'm having on my error log.
10:29<mav_>[mpm_prefork:notice] [pid 5372] AH00163: Apache/2.4.7 (Ubuntu) OpenSSL/1.0.1f configured -- resuming normal operations
10:30<Woet>thats not an error.
10:31<mav_>it doesn't says here that the version 7.2 was running, unlike if I run the system with the php5 version
10:32<mav_>[mpm_prefork:notice] [pid 14561] AH00163: Apache/2.4.7 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.5.9-1ubuntu4.26 OpenSSL/1.0.1f configured -- resuming normal operations
10:32<Woet>thats not an error.
10:32<Woet>how did you install PHP 7,2?
10:32<Woet>7.2 *
10:33<Woet>why not upgrade to ubuntu 16.04, or better yet, 18.04?

10:34<mav_>I have the guidelines from the support
10:35<mav_>I wasn't sure though how to do it, so far I haven't got any problem with the 14.04 that's why I stick with it for now.
10:37<dwfreed>it's going to stop being supported in about 4 months
10:37<dwfreed>meaning it'll no longer receive security updates
10:39<mav_>thanks for that information, guess I better work on that right now
10:39<Woet>and 18.04 will come with php 7.2
10:39<Woet>solving both issues in one go
10:41<mav_>oh, I never know that, glad you tell me
10:49<erik>mav_: Is the application you are looking to run on php 7.2 compatible with that?
10:58<mav_>I have this plugin on wordpress site that requires the php version to be 5.6 or greater.
11:00<mav_>I have talk this issue with the support and they suggested me to upgrad it to php7.2, as per following their instruction I still failed on running the system to php7.2

17:50<@mcintosh>for anyone curious the latest "Linode" kernel has been rolled back to version 4.18.16 for the time being, as currently the 4.19 tree appears to have a bug in how uptime is calculated
17:53<linbot>New news from kernels: Latest 64 bit (4.18.16-x86_64-linode118) <>
17:54<csnxs>speaking of uptime, my linode's kernel is over 2 years old...
18:13<linbot>New news from kernels: Latest 64 bit (4.18.16-x86_64-linode118) <> || Latest 32 bit (4.18.16-x86-linode138) <>
18:15<@mcintosh>that's better :P
18:21<waltman>mcintosh: Since I'm affected by this bug, should I reboot to fix it?
18:23<@mcintosh>there is the downside of using a now-EOLed kernel
18:23<@mcintosh>but yes, that's probably what you wanna do
18:24<grawity>uptime calculaion is the most important feature
18:24<@mcintosh>(that downside is why we didn't immediately rollback versions)
18:24<waltman>A bug like that makes me worried about what else might be broken...
18:25<@mcintosh>in the kernel? they usually frown upon breaking things like this, but no project is perfect
18:26<@mcintosh>i would expect that, outside of that issue, the 4.19 tree is generally superior to the 4.18 tree
18:26<@mcintosh>certainly, when you factor in support, it's superior
18:26<waltman>Where's it getting such a wrong value from? Is it reading someone else's memory? Was it miscompiled?
18:27<waltman>Is this a bug in the kernel itself, or in linode's package of the kernel?
18:27<@mcintosh>miscompiled? i'm not sure what that's implying but the issue is not specific to linode's kernel, as I noted yesterday
18:27<waltman>I didn't see that noted yesterday.
18:27<@mcintosh>no worries, happen to clarify again
18:28<@mcintosh>if it was specific to our kernel, we would've re-released a new one instead of rolling back versions
18:28<@mcintosh>> Is it reading someone else's memory?
18:28<@mcintosh>we would've rolled back immediately for an issue like that
18:28<waltman>someone being another kernel structure, of course
18:29<waltman>Where's it getting the value from? Is there a knock-on result that something else is reading what should be the uptime value?
18:29<waltman>I can think of all sorts of bad things...
18:30<@mcintosh>anything that would be "
18:30<@mcintosh>that bad would've been handled differently
18:31<Abi12>invalid uptime breaks mysql
18:31<@mcintosh>good to know - fwiw it's still reporting a valid uptime timestamp, just not that of the guest
18:32<waltman>A related question -- says "Latest 64 bit (4.18.16-x86_64-linode118) - 2019-01-08", and then there's a long list of kernel versions and dates. Sometimes the bottom one is the same as the one at the top. Other times, like now, it's not. What's up with that?
18:32-!-eyepulp [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
18:33<@mcintosh>sometimes latest is the most recent kernel version we have available
18:33<waltman>when I reboot, do I get the kernel at the top, or the one at the bottom?
18:33<@mcintosh>other times, another version is latest, like when the more recent kernel is reporting an erroneous uptime and customers are unhappy about it
18:33<@mcintosh>when you reboot, you get whatever your configuration profile says you will get
18:33<@mcintosh>for most, that is the latest 64 bit kernel
18:33<@mcintosh>but I can't guarantee that for you without seeing your configuration profile
18:33<waltman>me too. So is "latest" the one at the top?
18:34<@mcintosh>it's the one that says "Latest" in front of it
18:34<waltman>Thanks. So then all the other ones listed are ones you could pick from the profile?
18:35<@mcintosh>some of them probably aren't options anymore, if we deprecated them
18:35<@mcintosh>but mostly, yes
18:35<waltman>I thought there was a time that I rebooted thinking that the kernel had changed and I'd get the "latest" one at top, but instead I got the same kernel I was already running.
18:36<@mcintosh>that may be a situation where we released a more recent kernel but did not actually mark it as latest
18:36<@mcintosh>but, tough to say without being there at the time you did it
18:36<waltman>Of course. But that's why I was confused.
18:37<@mcintosh>it can definitely be a little confusing that the latest kernel isn't necessarily the most recent version, I would agree
18:37<@mcintosh>(linodes using distro kernels by default, nowadays, helps to address that)
18:39<@mcintosh>time for me to leave the office o/
18:39<@mcintosh>!point mcintosh
18:39<linbot>mcintosh: 1,000,000 points for mcintosh!!!
