00:01<LouWestin>lol
00:11<Cromulent>I've never understood this - every time I buy a new computer I at least double the available storage in it in the hopes that this time I won't run out of hard drive space but 6 months later I'm back to needing an external hard drive

01:35<codeistalk>hi
01:35<Cromulent>hi
01:36<codeistalk>added a domain to domain manager
01:36<codeistalk>it's already 24 hour
01:36<codeistalk>but still its not working
01:37<Cromulent>what is the domain?
01:37<codeistalk>https://rajkotdigital.com/
01:38<Cromulent>it doesn't appear to have an A record
01:39<Cromulent>nor does it have an AAAA record
01:39<codeistalk>and what exactly I need to do to make it work
01:39<nate>Doesn't appear to have any common records at all other than the NS ones
01:39<nate>codeistalk: You need to assign the A record (and AAAA if you want IPv6 accessibility) of the relevant linode at minimum
01:39<Cromulent>add A and AAAA records with your IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
01:40<codeistalk>okay
01:44<linbot>New news from community: Worpdress website getting crashed <https://www.linode.com/community/questions/18194>
01:50<codeistalk>I added one A record but it doesn't save hostname
01:50<codeistalk>:(
01:55<codeistalk>Cromulent: added A and AAA records for IPV4 and IPV6
01:56<codeistalk>how long does it take to work out
02:02-!-fergtm [~fergtm@dyn-2001-0470-1f0f-006e-1d11-bbf7-c3aa-c15f.hq-ptr.nil.com.mx] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
02:04<codeistalk>Hello
02:04<wraeth>I think DNS updates every ~15 minutes.
02:07<codeistalk>already 25 min gone
02:07<codeistalk>:D
02:10<codeistalk>I am getting ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
02:13<dwfreed>the name's non-existence is probably cached
02:13<dwfreed>the records definitely exist on the authoritative servers
02:14<codeistalk>so how to make it work
02:14-!-learner [~learner@ktnron0814w-grc-08-76-70-78-152.dsl.bell.ca] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
02:14<dwfreed>wait an hour, and it'll probably work then
02:15<codeistalk>Okay
02:15<codeistalk>shall I try from different location ?
02:16<Zr40>!dig rajkotdigital.com
02:16<linbot>Zr40: 2a01:7e00::f03c:91ff:fec3:fd60, 178.79.139.38
02:16<Zr40>are those the records you've assigned?
02:16<codeistalk>yes
02:17<codeistalk>looks correct
02:17<Zr40>then you only have to wait for your local dns cache to refresh
02:18<codeistalk>it's weird, I am making dig it does not show any IP :D
02:18<codeistalk>@Zr40 Okay I wait
02:19<Zr40>try this: dig +trace rajkotdigital.com
02:19<codeistalk>$ dig +trace rajkotdigital.com ; <<>> DiG 9.11.3-1ubuntu1.7-Ubuntu <<>> +trace rajkotdigital.com ;; global options: +cmd ;; Received 28 bytes from 127.0.0.53#53(127.0.0.53) in 0 ms
02:20<Zr40>+trace makes dig do the recursive lookup itself instead of relying on your local resolver to do that
02:20<codeistalk>yeah, so it's not working out on my Ubuntu Machine
02:20-!-joecool|mobile [~joecool@c-174-57-44-238.hsd1.nj.comcast.net] has quit [Quit: ZNC 1.7.3 - https://znc.in]
02:21<Zr40>it does first ask your local resolver for the root nameservers, if it doesn't return any then it may be misconfigured

02:24<codeistalk>but I did follow exactly same steps as mentioned
02:29<codeistalk>lets see after some hours
02:29<codeistalk>:)
02:32<wraeth>codeistalk: A quick google of "ubuntu flush dns" suggests `sudo systemd-resolve --flush-caches`. You could use `systemd-resolve --statistics` beforehand to see cache stats, too.
02:32<dwfreed>certain dns servers (namely dnsmasq) don't handle a trace query correctly the first time around
02:32<dwfreed>run it again

10:29<armiller>If you want to talk about billing you probably want to open a support ticket or give Linode a call
10:29<@jcardillo>yes, that would be best unless it's a general question, Kingsy.
10:37<Kingsy>jcardillo: oh great! it is actually specific to an account I have open. Can we PM? or is it better to just open a ticket? I am just concerned so it would be good to get an answer now if possible
10:38<@jcardillo>if you open a ticket and provide me with the ticket number that would be best. then we can correspond through the ticket.

14:09<nuevu>What have you tried? The usual process is stopping the service, restarting it with "--skip-grant-tables", and connecting to it as root (where you then set the password for root).
14:09<nuevu>After all of that, stop the service and restart as normal.

16:39<jaskal_>Linode DNS doesn't seem to support an SRV record with a priority, weight, port and target of 0, 0, 0, and '.' - this is RFC 6186 compliant, but the target of '.' is being rejected... Is this a bug or is there a different way of specifying '.' as the target?
16:39-!-jaskal_ is now known as jaskal
16:46<Eugene>jaskal - try "@" or null
16:47<Eugene>Unless you're trying to literally direct something to ., which is stupid and don't do that you fool
16:47<Eugene>You can of course load arbitrary DNS RRset data via AXFR (slave zones) ;-)
16:49<Peng>It's a valid way to specify "it's very definitely not running here" for MX and SRV

16:55<jaskal>Eugene: specifying '.' as per Peng, specifying '.' as the target asserts that the service is not available
16:56<jaskal>Typically used to communicate that IMAP / POP (without TLS) is not available

17:30<Eugene>File a ticket if you think there's a bug. I think that's enough of an edge case that its reasonable for the sanity-checks to tell you "no" in the panel
17:30<Eugene>If you want to do weird things with RRsets, use AXFR. I do, works great.
