09:52<GeorgeJetson>Hello, my domain moneymagick.com is not serving via my linode
09:52<GeorgeJetson>I transferred my domain from wealthyaffiliate.com to name.com and set the name servers to ns1.linode.com - ns5.linode.com
09:53<GeorgeJetson>and then in the DNS manager, I cloned an existing zone and pointed the domain name to 45.79.206.182
09:53<GeorgeJetson>this was serving just fine. But when my account at wealthyaffiliate closed, it stopped serving.
09:56<@TaraNT>GeorgeJetson We can try to help and are looking into briefly. We'll update you when we have more information
09:56<@jackley>GeorgeJetson: it looks like your nameservers aren't pointing to Linode https://pastebin.com/41rP8hC6
09:57<GeorgeJetson>I'm sorry, my domain is https://www.mymoneymagick.com/
09:57<GeorgeJetson>not moneymagick.com
09:57<GeorgeJetson>sorry
09:58<@jcardillo>Looks like you site is resolving when I load it in my browser GeorgeJetson
09:59<@jackley>no worries. that page appears to load in a web browser – yeah, what jcardillo said
10:00<GeorgeJetson>hmm, must be this hotel internet
10:01<GeorgeJetson>Using "down for everyone or just me" , this site is apparently up - http://sivanandachicago.org
10:01<GeorgeJetson>but it does not work in this hotel
10:01<@TaraNT>It does appear that you aren't serving over https which may explain connection issues from public sources https://mxtoolbox.com/domain/mymoneymagick.com/
10:02<@jackley>does it load on a mobile data connection, when you're not connected to WiFi?
10:02<@jackley>(e.g. a smartphone off wifi, if you have one handy)
10:03<GeorgeJetson>On my mobile phone (not connected to wifi), www.SivanandaChicago.org does load... however www.MyMoneyMagick.com does not.
10:04<@jackley>hmmm... it's working on T-Mobile's network for me, just checked
10:05<GeorgeJetson>OK finally it served over the hotel internet... I can now visit http://mymoneymagick.com/ ... thanks for your help!
10:05<@jackley>np!
10:05<@jcardillo>looks like it's not fully resolving across all locations: https://www.gdnspc.com/#A&mymoneymagick.com
10:05<@TaraNT>🎉
10:06<@jcardillo>so maybe it's in the process of still propagating fully.
10:06<@jcardillo>but glad to hear it's working now!
10:13<GeorgeJetson>jcardillo: that DNS propogation tool is valuable, but it shows that linode.com is not fully propagated, which I find hard to believe - https://www.gdnspc.com/#A&linode.com
10:16<gparent>It's showing resolution failures.
10:16<gparent>servers that don't resolve at all are hard to compare.
10:45<linbot>New news from community: Why is cron hitting but not running my PHP code? <https://www.linode.com/community/questions/18568>
10:48<@jcardillo>ah, maybe that's not the most helpful site after all lol

11:15<chesty>I vaguely remember years ago someone getting offended when anyone used the word propagate to describe DNS changes. I just looked up the word in a few dictionaries, there are quite a few nuanced definitions, most definitions are about something spreading via transmission. I guess it's not unsolicited transmission, but it is transmitted by request. I
11:15<chesty>just like words. there is no point to this. here is a circle ( )
11:23<@TaraNT>chesty IIRC transmission through a medium is one of the definitions, which seems to be appropriate for the manner in which DNS is transmitted. Words and how we use them are certainly fascinating
11:27-!-Shentino [~desktop@68-118-220-134.dhcp.knwc.wa.charter.com] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
11:29<grawity>chesty: I think the main reason it annoys some is that most people who use that term actually do so with the implication that the changes are "pushed" out, and/or have to be replicated across many servers across the world on something like a daily schedule

11:30<grawity>like, you have to wait those "24-74 hours" until those servers run their DNS refresh cronjobs or something
11:30<grawity>well, I mean, that *is* completely true for authoritative servers in some cases

16:13<nicolaus>well im unable to make a support ticket, however
16:14<nicolaus>i have a znc server running, and i want to assign that ip+port to a subdomain i already own
16:14<dwfreed>nicolaus: why are you unable to make a support ticket?
16:14<nicolaus>do i have to do it via nginx or via linode
16:14<dwfreed>nginx
16:14<nicolaus>dwfreed: no idea hahah, i'll try to make it again
16:14<dwfreed>or you can connect directly to ZNC without having to go through nginx
16:14<@jackley>nicolaus: what happens when you try to make a ticket?
16:15<dwfreed>assuming the port you want to use is not a low (less than 1024) port
16:15<nicolaus>port 5000
16:15<dwfreed>then you could just tell ZNC to listen on that port
16:15<dwfreed>and connect to it directly
16:17<nicolaus>jackley: ticket with the new webpage is working ifne
16:17<nicolaus>dont worry

16:39<nicolaus>dwfreed: yes right now im connecting just via ip+port
16:42<dwfreed>DNS cannot specify "connect to this specific port" for this usage, so you'll always have to specify port
16:43<dwfreed>(there are SRV records which do do that, but nothing you'll be using to access ZNC supports them)
16:44<nicolaus>damn
16:53<nicolaus>dwfreed: https://wiki.znc.in/Reverse_Proxy
16:53<nicolaus>which one do you think it's easier to setup, subdirectory or subdomain

17:01<RandomAsker>hello, can anybode explain what counts as bandwidth usage in linode? Say, if I have a software repository, is people downloading what I have count as bandwidth usage?
17:02<RandomAsker>sorry for bad english btw
17:02<millisa>https://www.linode.com/docs/platform/billing-and-support/network-transfer-quota/#which-traffic-applies-to-the-transfer-quota

17:04<millisa>unless you are referring to the network in/network out listed on the pricing page - the 'in' and 'out' are from the perspective of the linode
17:05<evilmonkey>Given CPanel's recent price increase including per site fee does that or will that affect Linode's offering of "Free Cpanel" for the $100 a month per VM offering?
17:05<@mcintosh>evilmonkey: i'm not aware of any plans to change our cpanel pricing structure
17:06<@mcintosh>... "pricing"
17:06<millisa>(You know about the pricing change they are talking about?)
17:06<@mcintosh>i don't personally keep track of cpanel licensing fee changes, no
17:07<evilmonkey>don't tell
17:07<millisa>it's this thing - https://blog.cpanel.com/update-to-account-based-pricing/ buycpanel just sent their mail no how it's changing things for them on the first.
17:08<@mcintosh>hmm let me ask someonoe
17:08<@mcintosh>someone, even

17:10<evilmonkey>thanks @mcintosh
17:17<@mcintosh>evilmonkey: if you open a ticket we can get you a more definitive answer but i don't anticipate the free cpanel for managed customers offering changing in response to this
17:18<evilmonkey>Alrighty I'll open a ticket, appreciate it @mcintosh

22:28<mebac>hello
22:28<@rgerke>Hi!
22:29<mebac>I have a big problem
22:30<@rgerke>I'm with the Linode support team. I'd like to try to help.
22:31<mebac>The email I used to create my Linode account was deleted
22:31<mebac>And now I cannot reset the Manager password
22:31<@rgerke>Your best bet is to open a Support ticket - we can update the e-mail address on your account for you.
22:32<mebac>But to enter a Ticket I must be logged in first, and the password I used always is now rejected
22:33<@rgerke>Or if you can't access your Manager, send an e-mail to support@linode.com - we will need the username and last 6 digits of the credit card you have on file with us to locate and authenticate your account, but we should be able to help you out.
22:33<mebac>So I cannot login to send a Ticket
22:33<mebac>OK I will send an email with the CC data
22:34<@rgerke>Drop a message in here when you've done so and I'll look for it.
22:40<mebac>Writing the email now...
22:44<mebac>I just sent the email to support@linode.com
22:44<mebac>Awaiting instructions..
22:44<@rgerke>Thanks! I'll check for it in a few minutes and reply as soon as I can.
